Lasiothyris luminosa (Lepidoptera: Tortricidae): a new grapevine pest in northeastern Brazil.

The little-known Neotropical tortricid moth Lasiothyris luminosa (Razowski& Becker) is reported for the first time as a grapevine pest in Northeastern Brazil. A diagnosis based on morphological characters including the genitalia is provided for both sexes, together with a preliminary description of economic damage caused by the larval stage. In addition, we sequenced a partial region of the cytochrome oxidase subunit I gene from specimens from the region, and reconstructed phylogenetic relationships using representative lineages of closely related tortricids as terminals. The larvais endophagous, feeding on the inflorescence from closed buds before flower anthesistoopen flowers and later, inside fruits at different maturation stages, causing them to rot. Preliminary surveys carried out on a few farms indicate that the effective damage may reach circa 10% of table-grape production in the region

Starting from a challenge in the early 1990s to develop a highly shaped beam dielectric lens antenna for a pilot 150 Mb/s cellular mobile broadband system operating in the 60-GHz band, several new developments have been accomplished over more than 20 years at Instituto de Telecomunicações [1] in the areas of millimeter-wave shaped dielectric lens antennas and planar metamaterial lenses. Prototype of a compact mechanically steered Ka-band antenna for satellite on-the-move

We present a functional prototype of a SOTM user terminal antenna based on a planar offset Fresnel lens that implements a new mechanical steering concept previously proposed by the authors. The beam scanning is achieved by inplane translation of the feed (for zenith scanning) and axial rotation of the antenna (for azimuth scanning). The feed is as assembly of a circular polarization patch and a small planar lens. The goal of the small lens is two-fold : to adjust the primary feed directivity for a proper illumination of the main lens and to shift backwards the phase center of the patch, allowing reducing the antenna height. In the developed prototype the measured gain is 27 dBi at 30 GHz with a scan loss of 3 dB for an elevation scanning range between 18° and 53° for full azimuth. The antenna provides good circular polarization, with a cross polarization level below -14 dB. The side lobe level is below -10 dB for all beams positions. Low-energy electron scattering from methanol and ethanol

Measured and calculated differential cross sections for elastic (rotationally unresolved) electron scattering from two primary alcohols, methanol (CH3OH) and ethanol (C2H5OH), are reported. The measurements are obtained using the relative flow method with helium as the standard gas and a thin aperture as the collimating target gas source. The relative flow method is applied without the restriction imposed by the relative flow pressure conditions on helium and the unknown gas. The experimental data were taken at incident electron energies of 1, 2, 5, 10, 15, 20, 30, 50, and 100 eV and for scattering angles of 5°–130°. There are no previous reports of experimental electron scattering differential cross sections for CH3OH and C2H5OH in the literature. The calculated differential cross sections are obtained using two different implementations of the Schwinger multichannel method, one that takes all electrons into account and is adapted for parallel computers, and another that uses pseudopotentials and considers only the valence electrons. Comparison between theory and experiment shows that theory is able to describe low-energy electron scattering from these polyatomic targets quite well
