Transferibilidade de inciadores microssatélites de açaizeiro (Euterpe oleracea) para dendenzeiro (Elaeis guinensis).

    Get PDF

Burning of tropical brazilian rainforest of sandy soil: does it affect soil organic matter?

    Get PDF
This study aimed to investigate the impact of vegetation burning on the content and chemical composition of soil organic matter (SOM) along a profile of a sandy Acrisol in Southwestern Amazon, Brazil, within 3 years after experiment beginning(YAB).The study was performed in Rio Branco, Acre State, and the forest burning was performed under controlled conditions. Samples from 6 depth(0-100cm depth)were collected under burned forest (BF) and primary forest (PF) at 1 YAB and 3 YAB. Besides Cand N contents, humic substances and biomarkers were determined. Under PF, the C content decreased with depth from 12 to 2 g kg-1.C/N ratio ranged from 7.6 at the surface to values around 3 at 1 m depth, indicating a predominance of microbial products. Humin fraction was not detected in the whole profile. Burning of vegetation promoted an increase of C and of humic acids only at 0-5 cm. The n-alkane distribution showed a shift towards smaller chains in the 0-5 cm of BF, indicating main contribution of microbial products. Also PAH’s of high molecular weight were detected in this site. Vegetation burning imparts alterations on the SOM composition, but these tend to disappear within 3 years

Biomarker analysis in soils of the Amazon rainforest after vegetation fire.

The objective of this study was to determine the origin of organic matter incorporated in Amazon forest soils subjected to vegetation fire by analyzing the aliphatic biomarkers (n-alkanes) present in lipid extracts of soil samples

Brachiaria plantaginea (Link) Hitchc. as a potential (new) source of shikimic acid. Quantification by NIR and PLS regression.

Shikimic acid is a natural compound, precursor of the antiviral Oseltamivir used against influenza A. It is a scarce and expensive chemical, obtained mainly from seeds of shrubs natives in China and Japan. In this study we propose a fast and clean procedure for the quantification of shikimic acid in B. plantaginea, an alternative source of shikimic acid, using NIR spectroscopy combined with PLS regression

Systemic and sex-biased regulation of OBP expression under semiochemical stimuli.

Abstract Constitutive expression of Odorant-Binding Proteins (OBPs) in antennae and other body parts has been examined mainly to infer their involvement in insect olfaction, while their regulation in response to semiochemical stimuli has remained poorly known. Previous studies of semiochemical response were basically done using electrophysiology, which integrates the response of the set of OBPs present in an antenna or sensillum, without revealing the regulation of OBPs or which ones might be involved. In this study we used boll weevil as a model and mined its OBPs by RNA-Seq to study their simultaneous antennal expression by qPCR under controlled semiochemical stimuli with aggregation pheromone and plant volatiles. In the absence of a semiochemical stimulus, 23 of 24 OBPs were constitutively expressed in the antenna in both sexes. Semiochemicals changed systemically the expression of OBPs in both sexes. There were different patterns of up- and down-regulation in female antennae for each semiochemical stimulus, consistent with female chemical ecology. On the other hand, the only response in males was down-regulation of some OBPs. We suggest that these systemic changes in OBP expression might be related to enhancing detection of the semiochemical stimuli and/or priming the olfactory system to detect other environmental chemicals
