Impact of internal bremsstrahlung on the detection of gamma-rays from neutralinos
We present a detailed study of the effect of internal bremsstrahlung photons
in the context of the minimal supersymmetric standard models and their impact
on gamma-ray dark matter annihilation searches. We find that although this
effect has to be included for the correct evaluation of fluxes of high energy
photons from neutralino annihilation, its contribution is relevant only in
models and at energies where the lines contribution is dominant over the
secondary photons. Therefore, we find that the most optimistic supersymmetric
scenarios for dark matter detection do not change significantly when including
the internal bremsstrahlung. As an example, we review the gamma-ray dark matter
detection prospects of the Draco dwarf spheroidal galaxy for the MAGIC
stereoscopic system and the CTA project. Though the flux of high energy photons
is enhanced by an order of magnitude in some regions of the parameter space,
the expected fluxes are still much below the sensitivity of the instruments.Comment: 5 pages, twocolumn format, 3 figures:3 references added, accepted as

Detailed theoretical predictions of the outskirts of dark matter halos
In the present work we describe the formalism necessary to derive the
properties of dark matter halos beyond two virial radius using the spherical
collapse model (without shell crossing), and provide the framework for the
theoretical prediction presented in Prada et al. (2005). We show in detail how
to obtain within this model the probability distribution for the
spherically-averaged enclosed density at any radii P(delta,r). Using this
probability distribution, we compute the most probable and mean density
profiles, which turns out to differ considerably from each other. We also show
how to obtain the typical profile, as well as the probability distribution and
mean profile for the spherically averaged radial velocity. Two probability
distributions are obtained: a first one is derived using a simple assumption,
that is, if Q is the virial radius in Lagrangian coordinates, then the enclosed
linear contrast delta_l(q,Q) must satisfy the condition that delta_l(q=Q) =
delta_vir, where delta_vir is the linear density contrast within the virial
radius Rvir at the moment of virialization. Then we introduce an additional
constraint to obtain a more accurate P(delta,r) which reproduces to a higher
degree of precision the distribution of the spherically averaged enclosed
density found in the simulations. This new constraint is delta_l(q,Q) <
delta_vir for all q > Q, which means that there are no radii larger than Rvir
where the density contrast is larger than that used to define the virial
radius. Finally, we compare in detail our theoretical predictions for the
probability distributions with the results found in the simulations.Comment: 12 pages, 8 figures, 1 table, replaced to match the published versio
Local distribution and abundance of swimming crabs (Callinectes spp. and Arenaeus cribrarius) on a tropical arid beach
Distribution, abundance, and several population features were studied in Ensenada de La Vela (Venezuela) between 1993 and 1998 as a first step in the assessment of local fisheries of swimming crabs. Arenaeus cribrarius was the most abundant species at the marine foreshore. Callinectes danae prevailed at the estuarine location. Callinectes bocourti was the most abundant species at the offshore. Abundances of A. cribrarius and C. danae fluctuated widely and randomly. Ovigerous females were almost absent. Adults of several species were smaller than previously reported. This study suggests that fisheries based on these swimming crabs probably will be restricted to an artisanal level because abundances appear too low to support industrial exploitation
The Dirichlet Obstruction in AdS/CFT
The obstruction for a perturbative reconstruction of the five-dimensional
bulk metric starting from the four-dimensional metric at the boundary, that is,
the Dirichlet problem, is computed in dimensions and some
comments are made on its general structure and, in particular, on its
relationship with the conformal anomaly, which we compute in dimension .Comment: 13 pages, references added (this paper supersedes hep-th/0206140, "A

Hints of the existence of Axion-Like-Particles from the gamma-ray spectra of cosmological sources
Axion Like Particles (ALPs) are predicted to couple with photons in the
presence of magnetic fields. This effect may lead to a significant change in
the observed spectra of gamma-ray sources such as AGNs. Here we carry out a
detailed study that for the first time simultaneously considers in the same
framework both the photon/axion mixing that takes place in the gamma-ray source
and that one expected to occur in the intergalactic magnetic fields. An
efficient photon/axion mixing in the source always means an attenuation in the
photon flux, whereas the mixing in the intergalactic medium may result in a
decrement and/or enhancement of the photon flux, depending on the distance of
the source and the energy considered. Interestingly, we find that decreasing
the value of the intergalactic magnetic field strength, which decreases the
probability for photon/axion mixing, could result in an increase of the
expected photon flux at Earth if the source is far enough. We also find a 30%
attenuation in the intensity spectrum of distant sources, which occurs at an
energy that only depends on the properties of the ALPs and the intensity of the
intergalactic magnetic field, and thus independent of the AGN source being
observed. Moreover, we show that this mechanism can easily explain recent
puzzles in the spectra of distant gamma-ray sources... [ABRIDGED] The
consequences that come from this work are testable with the current generation
of gamma-ray instruments, namely Fermi (formerly known as GLAST) and imaging
atmospheric Cherenkov telescopes like CANGAROO, HESS, MAGIC and VERITAS.Comment: 16 pages, 7 figures. Replaced to match the published version in Phys.

Interaction between affordance and handedness recognition: a chronometric study
The visualization of tools and manipulable objects activates motor-related areas in the cortex, facilitating possible actions toward them. This pattern of activity may underlie the phenomenon of object affordance. Some cortical motor neurons are also covertly activated during the recognition of body parts such as hands. One hypothesis is that different subpopulations of motor neurons in the frontal cortex are activated in each motor program; for example, canonical neurons in the premotor cortex are responsible for the affordance of visual objects, while mirror neurons support motor imagery triggered during handedness recognition. However, the question remains whether these subpopulations work independently. This hypothesis can be tested with a manual reaction time (MRT) task with a priming paradigm to evaluate whether the view of a manipulable object interferes with the motor imagery of the subject's hand. The MRT provides a measure of the course of information processing in the brain and allows indirect evaluation of cognitive processes. Our results suggest that canonical and mirror neurons work together to create a motor plan involving hand movements to facilitate successful object manipulation
The Holographic Dual of 2+1 Dimensional QFTs with N=1 SUSY and Massive Fundamental Flavours
The Maldacena Nastase solution is generalised to include massive fundamental
matter through the addition of a flavour profile. This gives a holographic dual
to N=1 SYM-CS with massive fundamental matter with a singularity free IR. We
study this solution in some detail confirming confinement and asymptotic
freedom. A recently proposed solution generating technique is then applied
which results in a new type-IIA supergravity solution. In a certain limit the
geometry of this solution is asymptotically AdS_4X Y, where Y is the metric at
the base of the Bryant-Salamon G_2 cone, which has topology S^3XS^3.Comment: 31 pages plus appendices, 6 figures. v3: Typos corrected, version to
