When is |C(X x Y)| = |C(X)||C(Y)|?
Sufficient conditions on the Tychonoff spaces X and Y are found that imply that the equation in the title holds. Sufficient conditions on the Tychonoff space X are found that ensure that the equation holds for every Tychonoff space Y . A series of examples (some using rather sophisticated cardinal arithmetic) are given that witness that these results cannot be generalized much
Three-body dN interaction in the analysis of the 12C(pol_d,d') reaction at 270 MeV
We have measured the cross sections and analyzing powers Ay and Ayy for the
elastic and inelastic scattering of deuterons from the 0+(g.s.), 2+(4.44 MeV),
3-(9.64 MeV), 1+(12.71 MeV), and 2-(18.3 MeV) states in 12C at an incident
energy of 270 MeV. The data are compared with microscopic distorted-wave
impulse approximation calculations where the projectile-nucleon effective
interactionis taken from the three-nucleon t-matrix given by rigorous Faddeev
calculations presently available at intermediate energies. The agreement
between theory and data compares well with that for the (p,p') reactions at
comparable incident energies/nucleon.Comment: 17 pages, 3 Postscript figure

Measured Delayed Neutron Spectra from the Fission of U-235 and Np-237
Texas A&M University, in collaboration with Oak Ridge National Laboratory / the Japan Atomic Energy Research Institute, have been actively studying the delayed neutron emission characteristics of the higher actinide isotopes for several years. 1-3 Recently, a proton recoil detector system was designed, built, and characterized for use in measuring delayed neutron energy spectra following neutron induced fission. The system has been used to measure aggregate delayed neutron energy spectra from neutron induced fission of U-235 and Np-237. These spectra have also been compared to that calculated using individual precursor P, values, yields, and spectra from the ENDF/B-VI file. A proton recoil detector array consisting of three LND Model 28305 high- -pressure proton recoil detectors has been constructed at the Texas A&M University Nuclear Science Center. The array was characterized using several neutron and gamma- ray sources to check for efficiency, gamma-ray response, and reliability of the unfolding techniques. Resultant measured proton recoil distributions were unfolded using a modified version of the spectrum unfolding code PSNS (the new code was renamed SAC). SAC used response functions calculated using MCNP 4A. This feature allowed the inclusion of several inches of lead between the detector and the source to decrease the detector's sensitivity to gamma-rays, while appropriately accounting for the effect on the transmitted neutron spectrum. Following proper calibration of the array, highly-purified sources of U-235 were irradiated in the Nuclear Science Center Reactor (NSCR) at a power of 1 MW for 20
Long-lived neutral-kaon flux measurement for the KOTO experiment
The KOTO ( at Tokai) experiment aims to observe the CP-violating rare
decay by using a long-lived neutral-kaon
beam produced by the 30 GeV proton beam at the Japan Proton Accelerator
Research Complex. The flux is an essential parameter for the measurement
of the branching fraction. Three neutral decay modes, , , and were used to
measure the flux in the beam line in the 2013 KOTO engineering run. A
Monte Carlo simulation was used to estimate the detector acceptance for these
decays. Agreement was found between the simulation model and the experimental
data, and the remaining systematic uncertainty was estimated at the 1.4\%
level. The flux was measured as per protons on a

Implicit responses in the judgment of attractiveness in faces with differing levels of makeup
Makeup is a form of body art which has been used for more than 7,000 years and is present in the great majority of human cultures, often used to enhance facial attractiveness and to accentuate features that represent femininity. This study examines how cumulative levels of facial makeup influenced approach and avoidance tendencies and on facial muscle responses associated with emotional response obtained through facial electromyography (EMG) in a passive viewing task. Experiment 1 used the joystick variant of the approach-avoidance task, where 30 subjects categorized female faces by visual orientation (portrait/landscape) in seven cumulatively added makeup levels. In Experiment 2, facial EMG was recorded from 40 subjects in the passive viewing of the same images. The present study shows that makeup application modulates implicit responses and reveals two distinct implicit preferences, behavioral and affective, with a male behavioral preference for heavy eye cosmetics, a female behavioral preference for light makeup, and an overall affective preference in both men and women for makeup accentuating visual contrast in the eye and mouth regions. These results are consistent with the conception that perceptual cues underlying cosmetic enhancement are key determinants in aesthetic facial preferences
Do Hadronic Charge Exchange Reactions Measure Electroweak L = 1 Strength?
An eikonal model has been used to assess the relationship between calculated
strengths for first forbidden beta decay and calculated cross sections for
(p,n) charge exchange reactions. It is found that these are proportional for
strong transitions, suggesting that hadronic charge exchange reactions may be
useful in determining the spin-dipole matrix elements for astrophysically

Experimental study of the decay
The first dedicated search for the rare neutral-kaon decay
has been carried out in the E391a experiment at the
KEK 12-GeV proton synchrotron. The final upper limit of 2.6 at
