Abstract This study is aimed at the identification of the institutional and social decisions that increase the resilience of the communities exposed at risk, by analysing observations during seismic sequences occurred in Italy in the last decades. Extensive surveys were carried out to rebuild the entire seismic phase with the documentation collected by the scientific/authority entities and the media/press review database. The April-May 2000 seismic swarm affecting the Faenza-Forli districts is used as case-study, enabling the identification of the emergency response techniques and means that were utilized to cope with the seismic storm in each coeval and/or collateral situation. Several practical and still useful lessons emerging from the past have been drawn

Science Policy Interface #3. Requirements and conditions for efficient Science Policy Interfaces in DRM EU countries use Science Policy Interfaces (SPIs) in different stages of Disaster Risk Management although some challenges and gaps remain in practice. The Current study reveals the requirements for SPIs to create knowledge ready for “action” and the conditions for these at institutional and social level. From these, three practices emerge as critical for success. The framework built serves to monitor and boost SPIs in practice and a source of knowledge to share and strategically work at the DRMKC.JRC.E.1-Disaster Risk Managemen
