    COMPARATIVE ANALYSIS OF THE PERFORMANCE OF RESOURCE ALLOCATION ALGORITHMS IN LONG TERM EVOLUTION NETWORKS

    The growth in the good number of real-time and non-real-time applications has sparked a renewed interest in exploring resource allocation schemes that can be efficient and fair to all the applications in overloaded scenarios. In this paper, the performance of six scheduling algorithms for Long Term Evolution (LTE) downlink networks were analyzed and compared. These algorithms are Proportional Fair (PF), Exponential/Proportional Fair (EXP/PF), Maximum Largest Weighted Delay First (MLWDF), Frame Level Scheduler (FLS), Exponential (EXP) rule and Logarithmic (LOG) rule.  The performances of these algorithms were evaluated using an open source simulator (LTE simulator) and compared based on network parameters which include: throughput, delay, Packet Loss Ratio (PLR), and fairness. This work aims at giving insight on the gains made on radio resource scheduling for LTE network and to x-ray the issues that require improvement in order to provide better performance to the users. The results of this work show that FLS algorithm outperforms other algorithms in terms of delay, PLR, throughput, and fairness for VoIP and video flow. It was also observed that for Best Effort (BE) flows, FLS outperforms other algorithms in terms of delay and PLR but performed least in terms of throughput and fairness. http://dx.doi.org/10.4314/njt.v36i1.2

    Sero-prevalence of hepatitis C virus among blood donors in Lagos, Nigeria

    The prevalence of Hepatitis C virus (HCV), one of the causative agents of viral hepatitis was investigated. One hundred and sixty-seven (167) blood samples from donors which were sero-negative to hepatitis B virus markers were screened for presence of HCV IgM antibodies using a third generationELISA kit. Out of the 167 sample tested 14 (8.4%) were positive for anti-HCV with the highest prevalence rate recorded in the age group 30-39 years. There is no statistically significant association between thesex and the rate of HCV infection (p0.05)

    Hydrothermal carbonization of sewage digestate at wastewater treatment works: Influence of solid loading on characteristics of hydrochar, process water and plant energetics

    Nowadays the sludge treatment is recognized as a priority challenge to the wastewater industry due to the increasing volumes produced and tighter environmental controls for its safe disposal. The most cost-effective process for sewage sludge is the anaerobic digestion but raw digestate still contains high levels of organic matter that can be transformed into an energy carrier by using processes like Hydrothermal Carbonization (HTC). In this work, the influence of solid loading (2.5, 5.0, 10.0, 15.0, 17.5, 20.0, 25.0 and 30.0% solids w/w) on the composition of hydrochar and process water was studied, together with an evaluation of product yields, solubilisation of organic carbon and biomethane potential of process waters from HTC processing (250 °C, 30- minute reaction time). Hydrochar yields ranged from 64 to 88%wt, whereas the concentration of soluble organic carbon increased from 2.6 g/L in the raw digestate to a maximum of 72.3 g/L in the process water following HTC at the highest solid loading. Furthermore, process modelling with Aspen Plus shows that the integration of AD with HTC to wastewater treatment works provides a significant positive energy balance when process water and hydrochar are considered as fuel sources for cogeneration

    Red Teaming Game: A Game-Theoretic Framework for Red Teaming Language Models

    Deployable Large Language Models (LLMs) must conform to the criterion of helpfulness and harmlessness, thereby achieving consistency between LLMs outputs and human values. Red-teaming techniques constitute a critical way towards this criterion. Existing work rely solely on manual red team designs and heuristic adversarial prompts for vulnerability detection and optimization. These approaches lack rigorous mathematical formulation, thus limiting the exploration of diverse attack strategy within quantifiable measure and optimization of LLMs under convergence guarantees. In this paper, we present Red-teaming Game (RTG), a general game-theoretic framework without manual annotation. RTG is designed for analyzing the multi-turn attack and defense interactions between Red-team language Models (RLMs) and Blue-team Language Model (BLM). Within the RTG, we propose Gamified Red-teaming Solver (GRTS) with diversity measure of the semantic space. GRTS is an automated red teaming technique to solve RTG towards Nash equilibrium through meta-game analysis, which corresponds to the theoretically guaranteed optimization direction of both RLMs and BLM. Empirical results in multi-turn attacks with RLMs show that GRTS autonomously discovered diverse attack strategies and effectively improved security of LLMs, outperforming existing heuristic red-team designs. Overall, RTG has established a foundational framework for red teaming tasks and constructed a new scalable oversight technique for alignment

    Deletion of the GABAA α2-subunit does not alter self dministration of cocaine or reinstatement of cocaine seeking

    Rationale GABAA receptors containing α2-subunits are highly represented in brain areas that are involved in motivation and reward, and have been associated with addiction to several drugs, including cocaine. We have shown previously that a deletion of the α2-subunit results in an absence of sensitisation to cocaine. Objective We investigated the reinforcing properties of cocaine in GABAA α2-subunit knockout (KO) mice using an intravenous self-administration procedure. Methods α2-subunit wildtype (WT), heterozygous (HT) and KO mice were trained to lever press for a 30 % condensed milk solution. After implantation with a jugular catheter, mice were trained to lever press for cocaine (0.5 mg/kg/infusion) during ten daily sessions. Responding was extinguished and the mice tested for cue- and cocaine-primed reinstatement. Separate groups of mice were trained to respond for decreasing doses of cocaine (0.25, 0.125, 0.06 and 0.03 mg/kg). Results No differences were found in acquisition of lever pressing for milk. All genotypes acquired self-administration of cocaine and did not differ in rates of self-administration, dose dependency or reinstatement. However, whilst WT and HT mice showed a dose-dependent increase in lever pressing during the cue presentation, KO mice did not. Conclusions Despite a reported absence of sensitisation, motivation to obtain cocaine remains unchanged in KO and HT mice. Reinstatement of cocaine seeking by cocaine and cocaine-paired cues is also unaffected. We postulate that whilst not directly involved in reward perception, the α2-subunit may be involved in modulating the “energising” aspect of cocaine’s effects on reward-seeking

    Human Motion Generation: A Survey

    Human motion generation aims to generate natural human pose sequences and shows immense potential for real-world applications. Substantial progress has been made recently in motion data collection technologies and generation methods, laying the foundation for increasing interest in human motion generation. Most research within this field focuses on generating human motions based on conditional signals, such as text, audio, and scene contexts. While significant advancements have been made in recent years, the task continues to pose challenges due to the intricate nature of human motion and its implicit relationship with conditional signals. In this survey, we present a comprehensive literature review of human motion generation, which, to the best of our knowledge, is the first of its kind in this field. We begin by introducing the background of human motion and generative models, followed by an examination of representative methods for three mainstream sub-tasks: text-conditioned, audio-conditioned, and scene-conditioned human motion generation. Additionally, we provide an overview of common datasets and evaluation metrics. Lastly, we discuss open problems and outline potential future research directions. We hope that this survey could provide the community with a comprehensive glimpse of this rapidly evolving field and inspire novel ideas that address the outstanding challenges.Comment: 20 pages, 5 figure

    A trissomia 18 caracteriza-se por múltiplas anomalias, incluindo doença cardíaca em 60 a 90% dos casos e elevada mortalidade. O mau prognóstico global, conduz habitualmente a uma politica de “cuidados mínimos” mas, paliar, é também nestas situações, um imperativo ético. Descreve-se o caso de uma recém-nascida sem diagnóstico pré natal, mas com confirmação por cariotipo, com cardiopatia, que condicionou insuficiência cardíaca congestiva e angústia respiratória crescente, inviabilizando alta hospitalar, como era desejo da família. Após consenso entre os pais e o corpo clínico responsável, foi decidida intervenção cirúrgica cardíaca paliativa, que possibilitou melhoria clínica e alta para o domicílio. Os autores defendem que a cirurgia cardíaca pode ser uma atitude a considerar em casos de trissomia 18, pois pode aliviar o sofrimento
