Current platforms for paper sharing among scholars, such as Research Gate, could support Active Expert Learning, whereby the paper being uploaded is processed using human language technology techniques, and feedback is asked of the scholar doing the upload using active learning techniques to minimize the amount of feedback requested. We show that this approach could outperform traditional active learning as well as randomly asking for feedback

The excavation of KHB-1 archaeological site was part of the Joint Hadd Project [Joint Hadd Project is a project operating in the Ja’lān region since 1985, born under the collaboration between ISIAO (Istituto Italiano per l’Africa e l’Oriente, Rome), CNRS (Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique, Paris) and the University of Bologna] carried out in the Ja’lān region, along the coast of the Sultanate of Oman. Different phases of occupation with significant structural evidences were identified within the deposit: an early short-term occupation in the 7th millennium, followed by a longer, extended period of occupation during the 4th millennium by a community of hunter-gatherers, with some evidence of animal husbandry. The material culture recovered from KHB-1, which includes architectural remains, provides new insights on the cultures of this region, highlighting a need for further excavations and analysis. This paper will illustrate the stratigraphic sequence and the main features recovered at KHB-1, followed by a discussion on the two main periods of occupation which will help shed a light on the site function and more broadly provide key insights on mobility, economy, and material culture of Ja’lān in the beginning of 7th and along the 4th millennium B.C

Reflections on the Dynamics of Frequentation of an Alpine Area in the Early Middle Ages through the Study of the Metal Finds. From 2014 to 2018 the project investigated human occupation of a glacial cirque at 1850 m above the sea level. The area, known as “Busa delle Vette” (Sovramonte, BL), is historically characterised by pastoral activities, as confirmed by the late-medieval dry-stone enclosures that were investigated through structural and stratigraphic analysis. The excavation of Area B, outside the enclosures, revealed a structure (interpreted as a hut) with dry-stone walls, two hearths, a small staircase, post holes and a small trench for a timber partition. Furthermore, an external rubbish dump was excavated nearby. The heap seems to have been in use during some renovation phases of the structure, which was occupied from the 5th to the 9th century AD. Despite the elevation and the difficult accessibility of the site, the material culture and food remains (animal bones, grains and legumes) are considerable. Metal objects discovered include elements of a garment (Lombard era belt parts for holding weapons, pincer fibula and tools (chain, hook, pin with a curved head). The typology of these objects is relevant for the interpretation of the function of the site and confirms the radiocarbon dates. The site reveals the political and economic role of the uplands during the Early Medieval period, which was only known through indirect sources (historic documents and archaeological data from settlements in the lowlands) or from sparse finds from other neighbouring mountain areas
