Description of the LiLi transfer reaction using structure overlaps from a full three-body model
Recent data on the differential angular distribution for the transfer
reaction Li(p,d)Li at MeV in inverse kinematics are
analysed within the DWBA reaction framework, using the overlap functions
calculated within a three-body model of Li. The weight of the different
Li configurations in the system's ground state is obtained from the
structure calculations unambiguously. The effect of the Li spin in the
calculated observables is also investigated. We find that, although all the
considered models succeed in reproducing the shape of the data, the magnitude
is very sensitive to the content of wave in the Li
ground-state wave function. Among the considered models, the best agreement
with the data is obtained when the Li ground state contains a 31\%
of wave in the -Li subsystem. Although this model takes into
account explicitly the splitting of the and resonances due to the
coupling of the wave to the spin of the core, a similar
degree of agreement can be achieved with a model in which the Li spin is
ignored, provided that it contains a similar p-wave content.Comment: 8 pages, 3 figures. Final versio
Investigating the 10Li continuum through 9Li(d,p)10Li reactions
The continuum structure of the unbound system Li, inferred from the
LiLi transfer reaction, is reexamined. Experimental data for
this reaction, measured at two different energies, are analyzed with the same
reaction framework and structure models. It is shown that the seemingly
different features observed in the measured excitation energy spectra can be
understood as due to the different incident energy and angular range covered by
the two experiments. The present results support the persistence of the
parity inversion beyond the neutron dripline as well as the splitting of the
well-known low-lying -wave resonance. Furthermore, they provide indirect
evidence that most of the single-particle strength, including possible
resonances, lies at relatively high excitations energies.Comment: accepted for publication in Physics Letters
Foot-and-mouth disease in Tanzania from 2001 to 2006.
Foot-and-mouth disease (FMD) is endemic in Tanzania, with outbreaks occurring almost each year in different parts of the country. There is now a strong political desire to control animal diseases as part of national poverty alleviation strategies. However, FMD control requires improving the current knowledge on the disease dynamics and factors related to FMD occurrence so control measures can be implemented more efficiently. The objectives of this study were to describe the FMD dynamics in Tanzania from 2001 to 2006 and investigate the spatiotemporal patterns of transmission. Extraction maps, the space-time K-function and space-time permutation models based on scan statistics were calculated for each year to evaluate the spatial distribution, the spatiotemporal interaction and the spatiotemporal clustering of FMD-affected villages. From 2001 to 2006, 878 FMD outbreaks were reported in 605 different villages of 5815 populated places included in the database. The spatial distribution of FMD outbreaks was concentrated along the Tanzania-Kenya, Tanzania-Zambia borders, and the Kagera basin bordering Uganda, Rwanda and Tanzania. The spatiotemporal interaction among FMD-affected villages was statistically significant (P≤0.01) and 12 local spatiotemporal clusters were detected; however, the extent and intensity varied across the study period. Dividing the country in zones according to their epidemiological status will allow improving the control of FMD and delimiting potential FMD-free areas
Photodynamic therapy for diffuse choroidal hemangioma in sturge-weber syndrome
Purpose. To report the treatment outcome of photodynamic therapy with verteporfin (PDT) for exudative retinal detachment (RD) associated with diffuse choroidal hemangioma in Sturge-Weber syndrome (SWS). Methods. An interventional case report of a 10-year-old girl with SWS who developed an exudative RD (visual acuity hand motions) that was treated with PDT. She was treated with a first session of multispot PDT. Posteriorly, a choroidotomy for drainage of subretinal fluid was created, combined with an intravitreal injection of gas (SF6) and cryoapplication. Finally, a second session of PDT was applied. Results. Subretinal fluid resolved over a period of one year and visual acuity increased to 20/125. Conclusions. PDT is an effective therapeutic option for exudative RD associated with diffuse choroidal hemangioma
IFMIF suitability for evaluation of fusion functional materials
The International FusionMaterials Irradiation Facility (IFMIF) is a future neutron source based on the D-Li stripping reaction, planned to test candidate fusionmaterials at relevant fusion irradiation conditions. During the design of IFMIF special attention was paid to the structural materials for the blanket and first wall, because they will be exposed to the most severe irradiation conditions in a fusion reactor. Also the irradiation of candidate materials for solid breeder blankets is planned in the IFMIF reference design.
This paper focuses on the assessment of the suitability of IFMIF irradiation conditions for testing functionalmaterials to be used in liquid blankets and diagnostics systems, since they are been also considered within IFMIF objectives. The study has been based on the analysis and comparison of the main expected irradiation parameters in IFMIF and DEMO reactor
Design and validity of a badminton observation tool (BOT)
The main purpose of this manuscript was to develop and validate an ad hoc observational tool for badminton singles games, which includes lunges trajectories as a non-analysed variable till this study. For that reason, the observational tool consists of 13 criteria and 47 categories mutually exclusive. 287actions of the 2015 Badminton World Championship were analysed. With the aim to assess the tool’s validity Cohen’s Kappa and generalizability theory were used. The outcomes for complete observational tool and for each criterion exceed 0.98, being above 0.81 proposed by literature as “almost perfect”. Generalizability analysis was done by two sides model (Category/Observer = C/O) and showed an excellent reliability (1.00). APPROXIMATION OF LIMIT STATE SURFACES IN MONOTONIC MONTE CARLO SETTINGS
International audienceThis article investigates the theoretical convergence properties of the estimators produced by a numerical exploration of a monotonic function with multivariate random inputs in a structural reliability framework. The quantity to be estimated is a probability typically associated to an undesirable (unsafe) event and the function is usually implemented as a computer model. The estimators produced by a Monte Carlo numerical design are two subsets of inputs leading to safe and unsafe situations, the measures of which can be traduced as deterministic bounds for the probability. Several situations are considered, when the design is independent, identically distributed or not, or sequential. As a major consequence, a consistent estimator of the (limit state) surface separating the subsets under isotonicity and regularity arguments can be built, and its convergence speed can be exhibited. This estimator is built by aggregating semi-supervized binary classifiers chosen as constrained Support Vector Machines. Numerical experiments conducted on toy examples highlight that they work faster than recently developed monotonic neural networks with comparable predictable power. They are therefore more adapted when the computational time is a key issue
