Computational fluid dynamics challenges for hybrid air vehicle applications
This paper begins by comparing turbulence models for the prediction of hybrid air vehicle (HAV) flows. A 6 : 1 prolate spheroid is employed for validation of the computational fluid dynamics (CFD) method. An analysis of turbulent quantities is presented and the Shear Stress Transport (SST) k-ω model is compared against a k-ω Explicit Algebraic Stress model (EASM) within the unsteady Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes (RANS) framework. Further comparisons involve Scale Adaptative Simulation models and a local transition transport model. The results show that the flow around the vehicle at low pitch angles is sensitive to transition effects. At high pitch angles, the vortices generated on the suction side provide substantial lift augmentation and are better resolved by EASMs. The validated CFD method is employed for the flow around a shape similar to the Airlander aircraft of Hybrid Air Vehicles Ltd. The sensitivity of the transition location to the Reynolds number is demonstrated and the role of each vehicle£s component is analyzed. Normal ordering and boundary conditions in open bosonic strings
Boundary conditions play a non trivial role in string theory. For instance
the rich structure of D-branes is generated by choosing appropriate
combinations of Dirichlet and Neumann boundary conditions. Furthermore, when an
antisymmetric background is present at the string end-points (corresponding to
mixed boundary conditions) space time becomes non-commutative there.
We show here how to build up normal ordered products for bosonic string
position operators that satisfy both equations of motion and open string
boundary conditions at quantum level. We also calculate the equal time
commutator of these normal ordered products in the presence of antisymmetric

Design of unit testing using xUnit.net

This paper presents an in-depth study of designing, implementing and executing unit test cases using the xUnit.net testing tool in general and in the context of the TeleMedicine Cluster System project within the ICT Design subject delivered at UTS, Australia. The case studies are based on the utilisation of the tool in Visual Basic 2012 using the.NET framework for C#. The paper elucidates on how and why the xUnit framework can be applied in the context of the TMC system, and how it can be tailored to meet the testing ad integration needs of the delivery of TMC system
A shared database of underground utility lines for 3D mapping and GIS applications
For the purpose of facility management it is very important to have detailed and up-to-date databases of underground utility lines,
but such data are not always available with adequate accuracy. Hence, the need of collecting and organizing suitable information on
underground services is a fundamental issue when dealing with urban data. Besides, by analyzing the process of designing and laying
new underground infrastructures it is possible to implement an efficient and cost-effective approach to integrate and update existing
maps by exploiting the surveying required for the installation of new facilities. It is also important to underline that collecting all the
data in a unique integrated database (and GIS) gives the possibility to share (at least at a local level) the cartographic and thematic
information for an optimal management of underground networks. In this paper, a database (DB) model for archiving the
underground lines data is presented. The structure of the DB has been designed by following the standard methodology for the
modelling of a relational DB, going through successive phases and originating the external, conceptual and logical model. Finally,
preliminary tests have been carried on for parts of the DB to verify quality parameters

In the present paper the influence of the reference system with regard to the characterization of the surface finishing is analyzed. The effect of the reference system’s choice on the most representative surface finishing parameters (e.g. roughness average Ra and root mean
square values Rq) is studied. The study can also be applied to their equivalent parameters in waviness and primary profiles. Based on ISO and ASME standards, three different types of regression lines (center, mean and orthogonal) are theoretically and experimentally analyzed, identifying the validity and applicability fields of each one depending on profile’s geometry
Psychosocial Distress: A Case Study of a Male African American Veteran with End-Stage Colon Cancer
This in-depth single-case-study explored the emergent trauma of psychosocial distress of an older male African-American veteran after being diagnosed with end-stage colon cancer. Using a qualitative case study methodology, three in-depth interviews were conducted which identified the following five themes: (1) the emotional impact of being diagnosed with cancer, (2) experiencing inescapable loss of control and independence, (3) adjusting to nursing home placement, (4) lacking social support, and (5) navigating complicated services. The findings expand our understanding of the need for identifying and managing psychosocial distress. Implications for behavioral health practitioners are discussed
