    Coordination of DC power flow controllers and AC/DC converters on optimising the delivery of wind power

    The generation of offshore wind power is less predictable. This can cause the overload of offshore DC transmission system and thus requires the curtailment of wind power. To reduce the amount of wind power curtailment, a method of optimising DC power flow using DC power flow controller (DC-PFC) is proposed. The analytical expression of coordinating DC-PFCs and converters in controlling the power flow of the DC system has been created. Method has been developed to optimise the power flow of DC grids within which control setting changes automatically in different wind conditions to reduce both the power curtailment and power losses. The proposed method has been demonstrated and validated on a 9-port DC system. It is concluded that both the curtailment of wind power and power losses are effectively reduced by inserting DC-PFCs into DC grids

    Observation of Two New N* Peaks in J/psi -> ppi−nˉp pi^- \bar n and pˉπ+n\bar p\pi^+n Decays

    The πN\pi N system in decays of J/ψ→NˉNπJ/\psi\to\bar NN\pi is limited to be isospin 1/2 by isospin conservation. This provides a big advantage in studying N∗→πNN^*\to \pi N compared with πN\pi N and ÎłN\gamma N experiments which mix isospin 1/2 and 3/2 for the πN\pi N system. Using 58 million J/ψJ/\psi decays collected with the Beijing Electron Positron Collider, more than 100 thousand J/ψ→pπ−nˉ+c.c.J/\psi \to p \pi^- \bar n + c.c. events are obtained. Besides two well known N∗N^* peaks at 1500 MeV and 1670 MeV, there are two new, clear N∗N^* peaks in the pπp\pi invariant mass spectrum around 1360 MeV and 2030 MeV. They are the first direct observation of the N∗(1440)N^*(1440) peak and a long-sought "missing" N∗N^* peak above 2 GeV in the πN\pi N invariant mass spectrum. A simple Breit-Wigner fit gives the mass and width for the N∗(1440)N^*(1440) peak as 1358±6±161358\pm 6 \pm 16 MeV and 179±26±50179\pm 26\pm 50 MeV, and for the new N∗N^* peak above 2 GeV as 2068±3−40+152068\pm 3^{+15}_{-40} MeV and 165±14±40165\pm 14\pm 40 MeV, respectively

    NLO contributions to B→KK∗B \to K K^* Decays in the pQCD approach

    We calculate the important next-to-leading-order (NLO) contributions to the B→KK∗B \to K K^* decays from the vertex corrections, the quark loops, and the magnetic penguins in the perturbative QCD (pQCD) factorization approach. The pQCD predictions for the CP-averaged branching ratios are Br(B+→K+Kˉ∗0)≈3.2×10−7Br(B^+ \to K^+ \bar{K}^{*0}) \approx 3.2\times 10^{-7}, Br(B+→Kˉ0K∗+)≈2.1×10−7Br(B^+ \to \bar{K}^0 {K}^{*+}) \approx 2.1\times 10^{-7}, Br(B^0/\ov{B}^0 \to K^0\bar{K}^{*0}+\bar{K}^0 K^{*0}) \approx 8.5\times 10^{-7}, Br(B^0/\ov{B}^0 \to K^+K^{*-} + K^-K^{*+}) \approx 1.3\times 10^{-7}, which agree well with both the experimental upper limits and the predictions based on the QCD factorization approach. Furthermore, the CP-violating asymmetries of the considered decay modes are also evaluated. The NLO pQCD predictions for \acp(B^+ \to K^+\bar{K}^{*0}) and \acp(B^+ \to K^{*+}\bar{K}^{0}) are \acp^{dir}(K^+\bar{K}^{*0})\approx -6.9 % and \acp^{dir}(K^{*+}\bar{K}^0)\approx 6.5 %.Comment: 29 pages,8 ps/eps figures, modified figures onl

    Based on a sample of 5.8X 10^7 J/psi events taken with the BESII detector, the branching fractions of J/psi--> 2(pi+pi-)eta and J/psi-->3(pi+pi-)eta are measured for the first time to be (2.26+-0.08+-0.27)X10^{-3} and (7.24+-0.96+-1.11)X10^{-4}, respectively.Comment: 11 pages, 6 figure

    A Monte Carlo program based on Geant3 has been developed for BESII detector simulation. The organization of the program is outlined, and the digitization procedure for simulating the response of various sub-detectors is described.     Using a sample of 58 million J/ψJ/\psi events recorded in the BESII detector, the decay J/ψ→ωπ+π−J/\psi \to \omega \pi^+ \pi^- is studied. There are conspicuous ωf2(1270)\omega f_2(1270) and b1(1235)πb_1(1235)\pi signals. At low ππ\pi \pi mass, a large broad peak due to the σ\sigma is observed, and its pole position is determined to be (541±39)(541 \pm 39) - ii (252±42)(252 \pm 42) MeV from the mean of six analyses.     Search for the Lepton Flavor Violation Processes J/ψ→J/\psi \to Ότ\mu\tau and eτe\tau

    The lepton flavor violation processes J/ψ→ΌτJ/\psi \to \mu\tau and eτe\tau are searched for using a sample of 5.8×107\times 10^7 J/ψJ/\psi events collected with the BESII detector. Zero and one candidate events, consistent with the estimated background, are observed in J/ψ→Ότ,τ→eΜˉeΜτJ/\psi \to \mu\tau, \tau\to e\bar\nu_e\nu_{\tau} and J/ψ→eτ,τ→ΌΜˉΌΜτJ/\psi\to e\tau, \tau\to\mu\bar\nu_{\mu}\nu_{\tau} decays, respectively. Upper limits on the branching ratios are determined to be Br(J/ψ→Ότ)<2.0×10−6Br(J/\psi\to\mu\tau)<2.0 \times 10^{-6} and Br(J/ψ→eτ)<8.3×10−6Br(J/\psi \to e\tau) < 8.3 \times10^{-6} at the 90% confidence level (C.L.).Comment: 9 pages, 2 figure

    Direct Measurement of the Pseudoscalar Decay Constant fD+

    The absolute branching fraction of D+→Ό+ÎœD^+ \to \mu^+ \nu has been directly measured by an analysis of a data sample of about 33 pb−1{\rm pb^{-1}} collected around s=3.773\sqrt{s}=3.773 GeV with the BES-II at the BEPC. At these energies, D−D^- meson is produced in pair as e+e−→D+D−e^+e^-\to D^{+} D^{-}. A total of 5321±149±1605321 \pm 149 \pm 160 D−D^- mesons are reconstructed from this data set. In the recoil side of the tagged D−D^- mesons, 2.67±1.742.67\pm1.74 purely leptonic decay events of D+→Ό+ÎœD^+ \to \mu^+ \nu are observed. This yields a branching fraction of BF(D+→Ό+ΜΌ)=(0.122−0.053+0.111±0.010)BF(D^+ \to \mu^+ \nu_{\mu}) = (0.122^{+0.111}_{-0.053}\pm 0.010)%, and a corresponding pseudoscalar decay constant fD+=(371−119+129±25)f_{D^+}=(371^{+129}_{-119}\pm 25) MeV.Comment: 7 pages, 8 figures, Submitted to Physics Letters B in October, 200
