    Electromagnetic manipulation for anti-Zeno effect in an engineered quantum tunneling process

    We investigate the quantum Zeno and anti-Zeno effects for the irreversible quantum tunneling from a quantum dot to a ring array of quantum dots. By modeling the total system with the Anderson-Fano-Lee model, it is found that the transition from the quantum Zeno effect to quantum anti-Zeno effect can happen as the magnetic flux and the gate voltage were adjusted.Comment: 6 pages, 5 figure

    Determination of taste receptor type 1 member 1 (TAS1R1) gene polymorphism and association with some body measurements in goats

    Umami taste plays a key role in intake of amino acids. It is believed that the taste receptor type 1 member 1 (TAS1R1) and taste receptor type 1 member 3 (TAS1R3) receptors are to function in combination as a heteromeric umami taste receptor in humans and other mammals. Most of the previous studies laid particular emphasis on the taste sensitivity to umami substances or the relation of umami taste sensitivity to variations in candidate umami receptor genes in rodents or in humans. Taste thresholds were associated with body weight. In this article, the objective was to investigate variations in goat TAS1R1 gene and their associations with growth traits in 317 goats by PCR-SSCP and DNA sequencing methods. The results showed two novel single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs): HM449123:g. [T3974C, C4037T]. In detail, two different alleles, A and B, were identified and three genotypes were observed, AA, AB, and BB with the frequency distribution of allele B from 0.59 to 0.67 in analyzed populations. The genetic diversity analysis revealed that all PIC values were between 0.34 and 0.37, implying that this locus within TAS1R1 gene possessed moderate genetic diversity in goat. Furthermore, nucleotide sequence analysis showed that HM449123:g. [T3974C, C4037T] resulted in two synonymous mutations. But association analysis demonstrated significant differences between different genotypes and production traits (such as body length, chest circumference and cannon circumference) of Haimen goats.     Approximation of conformal mappings by circle patterns

    A circle pattern is a configuration of circles in the plane whose combinatorics is given by a planar graph G such that to each vertex of G corresponds a circle. If two vertices are connected by an edge in G, the corresponding circles intersect with an intersection angle in (0,π)(0,\pi). Two sequences of circle patterns are employed to approximate a given conformal map gg and its first derivative. For the domain of gg we use embedded circle patterns where all circles have the same radius decreasing to 0 and which have uniformly bounded intersection angles. The image circle patterns have the same combinatorics and intersection angles and are determined from boundary conditions (radii or angles) according to the values of gg' (g|g'| or argg\arg g'). For quasicrystallic circle patterns the convergence result is strengthened to CC^\infty-convergence on compact subsets.Comment: 36 pages, 7 figure

    Dual-responsive supramolecular colloidal microcapsules from cucurbit[8]uril molecular recognition in microfluidic droplets

    The macrocyclic host, cucurbit[8]uril, is used to facilitate cross-linking of colloidal particles and polymers in microdroplets resulting in thermo- and photo-responsive supramolecular colloidal microcapsules. Methyl viologen-bearing colloidal particles were prepared using template polymerisation and combined with cucurbit[8]uril and an azobenzene-functionalised polymer within microfluidic droplets. The colloidal particles self-assembled at the droplet interface, whereupon polymeric cross-links formed via\textit{via} ternary host-guest complexation with cucurbit[8]uril. The resultant supramolecular colloidal microcapsules were uniform in size and were able to retain a macromolecular cargo. It is shown that the capsule skin porosity, and consequently the rate of release of encapsulated cargo, can be remotely controlled via\textit{via} either temperature or light triggers.     Stromal cell ratio based on automated image analysis as a predictor for platinum-resistant recurrent ovarian cancer.

    Background Identifying high-risk patients for platinum resistance is critical for improving clinical management of ovarian cancer. We aimed to use automated image analysis of hematoxylin & eosin (H&E) stained sections to identify the association between microenvironmental composition and platinum-resistant recurrent ovarian cancer.Methods Ninety-one patients with ovarian cancer containing the data of automated image analysis for H&E histological sections were initially reviewed.Results Seventy-one patients with recurrent disease were finally identified. Among 30 patients with high stromal cell ratio, 60% of the patients had platinum-resistant recurrence, which was significantly higher than the rate in patients with low stromal cell ratio (9.80%, P <  0.001). Multivariate logistic regression analysis revealed elevated CA125 level after 3 cycles of chemotherapy (P <  0.001) and high stromal cell ratio (P = 0.002) were the negative predictors of platinum-resistant relapse. The area under the curve (AUC) of receiver operating characteristic (ROC) curves of the models for predicting platinum-resistant recurrence with stromal cell ratio, normalization of CA125 level, and the combination of two parameters were 0.78, 0.79, and 0.89 respectively.Conclusions Our results demonstrated stromal cell ratio based on automated image analysis may be a potential predictor for ovarian cancer patients at high risk of platinum-resistant recurrence, and it could improve the predictive value of model when combined with normalization of CA125 level after 3 cycles of chemotherapy

    Efficient electronic entanglement concentration assisted with single mobile electron

    We present an efficient entanglement concentration protocol (ECP) for mobile electrons with charge detection. This protocol is quite different from other ECPs for one can obtain a maximally entangled pair from a pair of less-entangled state and a single mobile electron with a certain probability. With the help of charge detection, it can be repeated to reach a higher success probability. It also does not need to know the coefficient of the original less-entangled states. All these advantages may make this protocol useful in current distributed quantum information processing.Comment: 6pages, 3figure
