Electric Dipole Moments in the Generic Supersymmetric Standard Model
The generic supersymmetric standard model is a model built from a
supersymmetrized standard model field spectrum the gauge symmetries only. The
popular minimal supersymmetric standard model differs from the generic version
in having R-parity imposed by hand. We review an efficient formulation of the
model and some of the recently obtained interesting phenomenological features,

Neutrino Oscillations from Supersymmetry without R-parity - Its Implications on the Flavor Structure of the Theory
We discuss here some flavor structure aspects of the complete theory of
supersymmetry without R-parity addressed from the perspective of fitting
neutrino oscillation data based on the recent Super-Kamiokande result. The
single-VEV parametrization of supersymmetry without R-parity is first reviewed,
illustrating some important features not generally appreciated. For the flavor
structure discussions, a naive, flavor model independent, analysis is

Little Higgs Model Completed with a Chiral Fermionic Sector
The implementation of the little Higgs mechanism to solve the hierarchy
problem provides an interesting guiding principle to build particle physics
models beyond the electroweak scale. Most model building works, however, pay
not much attention to the fermionic sector. Through a case example, we
illustrate how a complete and consistent fermionic sector of the TeV effective
field theory may actually be largely dictated by the gauge structure of the
model. The completed fermionic sector has specific flavor physics structure,
and many phenomenological constraints on the model can thus be obtained beyond
gauge, Higgs, and top physics. We take a first look on some of the quark sector

In an Attempt to Introduce Long-range Interactions into Small-world Networks
Distinguishing the long-range bonds with the regular ones, the critical
temperature of the spin-lattice Guassian model built on two typical Small-world
Networks (SWNs) is studied. The results show much difference from the classical
case, and thus may induce some more accurate discussion on the critical

The Montage Image Mosaic Service: Custom Image Mosaics On-Demand
The Montage software suite has proven extremely useful as a general engine for reprojecting, background matching, and mosaicking astronomical image data from a wide variety of sources. The processing algorithms support all common World Coordinate System (WCS) projections and have been shown to be both astrometrically accurate and flux conserving. The background ‘matching’ algorithm does not remove background flux but rather finds the best compromise background based on all the input and matches the individual images to that. The Infrared Science Archive (IRSA), part of the Infrared Processing and Analysis Center (IPAC) at Caltech, has now wrapped the Montage software as a CGI service and provided a compute and request management infrastructure capable of producing approximately 2 TBytes / day of image mosaic output (e.g. from 2MASS and SDSS data). Besides the basic Montage engine, this service makes use of a 16-node LINUX cluster (dual processor, dual core) and the ROME request management software developed by the National Virtual Observatory (NVO). ROME uses EJB/database technology to manage user requests, queue processing and load balance between users, and managing job monitoring and user notification. The Montage service will be extended to process userdefined data collections, including private data uploads
Fine-scale analysis of biomineralized mollusc teeth using FIB and TEM
When it comes to mineral synthesis, there is a lot we can learn from nature. Although we can synthesize a range of materials in the laboratory, the experimental conditions are often constrained to particular ranges of temperature, pH, etc. Biological systems, on the other hand, seem to be able to produce individual minerals and complex composite mineral structures under a variety of conditions, many of which are far from those applied to create their synthetic counterparts. Understanding how nature does this could provide a means to produce novel biomimetic materials with potential applications in a diverse range of fields from medicine to materials engineering
X-ray Localization of the Globular Cluster G1 with XMM-Newton
We present an accurate X-ray position of the massive globular cluster G1 by
using XMM-Newton and the Hubble Space Telescope (HST). The X-ray emission of G1
has been detected recently with XMM-Newton. There are two possibilities for the
origin of the X-ray emission. It can be either due to accretion of the central
intermediate-mass black hole, or by ordinary low-mass X-ray binaries. The
precise location of the X-ray emission might distinguish between these two
scenarios. By refining the astrometry of the XMM-Newton and HST data, we
reduced the XMM-Newton error circle to 1.5". Despite the smaller error circle,
the precision is not sufficient to distinguish an intermediate-mass black hole
and luminous low-mass X-ray binaries. This result, however, suggests that

In-Situ Colloidal MnO2 Deposition and Ozonation of 2,4-Dinitrotoluene
Laboratory experiments are presented that demonstrate a novel in situ semipassive reactive barrier for the degradation of 2,4 dinitrotoluene created by coating aquifer surfaces by deposition of colloidal MnO2, which catalyzes ozone degradation and enhances contaminant oxidation. Ozone is added to the reactive barrier and is transported through the zone with the contaminants by existing hydraulic gradients. The communication presents the preliminary laboratory investigation demonstrating the viability of this method. Studies were conducted by coating Ottawa sand with colloidal MnO2. Results show that concentrations of MnO2 in the range of 0.2 mg/g can be deposited with no measurable change in hydraulic conductivity, that there is significant coverage of the sand material by MnO2, and the deposition was not reversible under a wide range of chemical conditions. Ozonation of 2,4-dinitrotoluene in the presence of MnO2- coated sand was demonstrated to result in pseudo-first-order degradation kinetics with respect to DNT with half-lives ranging from 28 to 22 min (at pH 6 and 7, respectively), approximately 25% faster than experiments performed in the absence of MnO2
Stabilization of the Electroweak Scale in 3-3-1 Models
One way of avoiding the destabilization of the electroweak scale through a
strong coupled regime naturally occurs in models with a Landau-like pole at the
TeV scale. Hence, the quadratic divergence contributions to the scalar masses
are not considered as a problem anymore since a new nonperturbative dynamic
emerges at the TeV scale. This scale should be an intrinsic feature of the
models and there is no need to invoke any other sort of protection for the
electroweak scale. In some models based on the gauge symmetry, a nonperturbative dynamics arise and it stabilizes
