Transonic flutter study of a wind-tunnel model of an arrow-wing supersonic transport
A 1/20-size, low-speed flutter model of the SCAT-15F complete airplane was tested on cables to simulate a near free-flying condition. Only the model wing and fuselage were flexible. Flutter boundaries were measured for a nominal configuration and a configuration with wing fins removed at Mach numbers M from 0.76 to 1.2. For both configurations, the transonic dip in the wing flutter dynamic pressure q boundary was relatively small and the minimum flutter q occurred near M = 0.92. Removing the wing fins increased the flutter q about 14 percent and changed the flutter mode from symmetric to antisymmetric. Vibration and flutter analyses were made using a finite-element structural representation and subsonic kernel-function aerodynamics. For the nominal configuration, the analysis (using calculated modal data) predicted the experimental flutter q levels within 10 percent but did not predict the correct flutter mode at the higher M. For the configuration without wing fins, the analysis predicted 16 to 36 percent unconservative (higher than experimental) flutter q levels and showed extreme sensitivity to mass representation details that affected wing tip mode shapes. For high subsonic M, empennage aerodynamics had a significant effect on the predicted flutter boundaries of several symmetric modes
Magnetic order in the quasi-one-dimensional spin 1/2 chain, copper pyrazine dinitrate
We present the first evidence of magnetic order in the quasi-one-dimensional
spin 1/2 molecular chain compound, copper pyrazine dinitrate Cu(C4H4N2)(NO3)2}.
Zero field muon-spin relaxation measurements made at dilution refrigerator
temperatures show oscillations in the measured asymmetry, characteristic of a
quasistatic magnetic field at the muon sites. Our measurements provide
convincing evidence for long range magnetic order below a temperature
T_N=107(1) mK. This leads to an estimate of the interchain coupling constant of
|J'|/k_B=0.046 K and to a ratio |J'/J| = 4.4 x 10^-3.Comment: 4 pages, 3 figures. Submitted to Physical Review Letter
Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Assessment Teams for First Responders in Humanitarian Assistance/Disaster Relief (HA/DR) Missions
Immediately following a natural disaster requiring Humanitarian Assistance/Disaster Relief (HA/DR), a myriad of organizations respond. Typically, these early responders send small assessment teams to determine critical needs, which are then paired with the resources available. The needs can range from basic subsistence (food, shelter, and water) to transportation and infrastructure, yet the paramount factor among each team is the need to communicate. To assist in this effort, an Information and Communications Technology (ICT) assessment team using standardized tactics, techniques, procedures and training to maximize effectivenessand comprised of members from multiple organizationscould provide a shared prospective among member groups that could ultimately produce a more objective and complete communications assessment. This in turn, could be transmitted immediately to the global response community via appropriate information sharing portals. As no such model exists at present, our research attempts to pioneer and explore this concept and capability by exploring and providing an outline of an ICT assessment team model. Polyimide processing additives
A process for preparing polyimides having enhanced melt flow properties is described. The process consists of heating a mixture of a high molecular weight poly-(amic acid) or polyimide with a low molecular weight amic acid or imide additive in the range of 0.05 to 15 percent by weight of additive. The polyimide powders so obtained show improved processability, as evidenced by lower melt viscosity by capillary rheometry. Likewise, films prepared from mixtures of polymers with additives show improved processability with earlier onset of stretching by TMA
A system of relational syllogistic incorporating full Boolean reasoning
We present a system of relational syllogistic, based on classical
propositional logic, having primitives of the following form:
Some A are R-related to some B;
Some A are R-related to all B;
All A are R-related to some B;
All A are R-related to all B.
Such primitives formalize sentences from natural language like `All students
read some textbooks'. Here A and B denote arbitrary sets (of objects), and R
denotes an arbitrary binary relation between objects. The language of the logic
contains only variables denoting sets, determining the class of set terms, and
variables denoting binary relations between objects, determining the class of
relational terms. Both classes of terms are closed under the standard Boolean
operations. The set of relational terms is also closed under taking the
converse of a relation. The results of the paper are the completeness theorem
with respect to the intended semantics and the computational complexity of the

Electron spin relaxation in organic semiconductors probed through muSR
Muon spin spectroscopy and in particular the avoided level crossing technique
is introduced, with the aim of showing it as a very sensitive local probe for
electron spin relaxation in organic semiconductors. Avoided level crossing data
on TMS-pentacene at different temperatures are presented, and they are analysed
to extract the electron spin relaxation rate, that is shown to increase on
increasing the temperature from 0.02 MHz to 0.33 MHz at 3 K and 300 K

Isospin Fluctuations from a Thermally Equilibrated Hadron Gas
Partition functions, multiplicity distributions, and isospin fluctuations are
calculated for canonical ensembles in which additive quantum numbers as well as
total isospin are strictly conserved. When properly accounting for
Bose-Einstein symmetrization, the multiplicity distributions of neutral pions
in a pion gas are significantly broader as compared to the non-degenerate case.
Inclusion of resonances compensates for this broadening effect. Recursion
relations are derived which allow calculation of exact results with modest

Digital Availability of Product Information for Collaborative Engineering of Spacecraft
In this paper, we introduce a system to collect product information from
manufacturers and make it available in tools that are used for concurrent
design of spacecraft. The planning of a spacecraft needs experts from different
disciplines, like propulsion, power, and thermal. Since these different
disciplines rely on each other there is a high need for communication between
them, which is often realized by a Model-Based Systems Engineering (MBSE)
process and corresponding tools. We show by comparison that the product
information provided by manufacturers often does not match the information
needed by MBSE tools on a syntactic or semantic level. The information from
manufacturers is also currently not available in machine-readable formats.
Afterwards, we present a prototype of a system that makes product information
from manufacturers directly available in MBSE tools, in a machine-readable way.Comment: accepted at CDVE201
