    Squeezing lepton pairs out of broken symmetries

    Get PDF
    We discuss two possible signatures of symmetry breaking that can appear in dilepton spectra, as measured in relativistic heavy ion collisions. The first involves scalar-vector meson mixing and is related to the breaking of Lorentz symmetry by a hot medium. The second is related to the breaking of Furry's theorem by a charged quark-gluon plasma. Those signals will be accessible to upcoming measurements to be performed at the GSI, RHIC, and the LHC.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figures, talk given at the INPC 2001 (International Conference on Nuclear Physics), 30 July - 3 August 2001, Berkeley, C

    Accurate estimations of circumstellar and interstellar lines of quadruply ionized vanadium using the coupled cluster approach

    Full text link
    Accurate {\it ab initio} calculations have been carried out to study the valence electron removal energies and oscillator strengths of astrophysically important electromagnetic transitions of quadruply ionized vanadium, V4+V^{4+}. Many important electron correlations are considered to all-orders using the relativistic coupled-cluster theory. Calculated ionization potentials and fine structure splittings are compared with the experimental values, wherever available. To our knowledge, oscillator strengths of electric dipole transitions are predicted for the first time for most of the transitions. The transitions span in the range of ultraviolet, visible and near infrared regions and are important for astrophysical observations.Comment: Submitted in Astrophysical

    Relativistic calculations of the lifetimes and hyperfine structure constants in 67^{67}Zn+^{+}

    Full text link
    This work presents accurate {\it ab initio} determination of the magnetic dipole (M1) and electric quadrupole (E2) hyperfine structure constants for the ground and a few low-lying excited states in 67^{67}Zn+^{+}, which is one of the interesting systems in fundamental physics. The coupled-cluster (CC) theory within the relativistic framework has been used here in this calculations. Long standing demands for a relativistic and highly correlated calculations like CC can be able to resolve the disagreements among the lifetime estimations reported previously for a few low-lying states of Zn+^{+}. The role of different electron correlation effects in the determination of these quantities are discussed and their contributions are presented.Comment: 9 pages, 1 figure. submitted to J. Phys. Analysis of sequences of two different classes of kinetoplast DNA minicircles of a Leishmania spp.

    We have determined the nucleotide sequences of the minicircles representing a major (pLURkE3) and a minor (pLURkH13) class populations from the kinetoplast DNA ofLeishmania strain UR6. These minicircles have sequence organization similar to other kinetoplastid parasites, however, they have some unique structural features. These features include the following: (i) imperfect inverted repeat in the variable regions, similar to the conserved sequence elements of guide RNA genes in African trypanosomes, (ii) tandem and non-tandem direct repeats of 8 bp or longer scattered throughout the minicircles, (iii) non uniform strand distribution of bases throughout the minicircles and (iv) high TG content, more than half of the molecules being extremely (T + G) versus (A + C) strand biased. The heterogeneity of minicircle sequences in the variable regions may be exploited in developing recombinant DNA based diagnostic probes for detection and classification of Leishmania species

    Study of electron spin dynamics in grain aligned LaCoPO: an itinerant ferromagnet

    Full text link
    139La NMR study was performed in grain aligned (c|| H0) sample of LaCoPO and polycrystalline LaFePO. Knight shift is isotropic and temperature independent in LaFePO. It is strongly temperature dependent and anisotropic in LaCoPO. The spin-lattice relaxation rate in LaCoPO clearly reveals the existence of 3D spin fluctuations both in the paramagnetic and ferromagnetic state over and above the dominant 2D spin fluctuations in the paramagnetic state, observed earlier from 31P NMR measurements in the same oriented sample. The spin fluctuation parameters in LaCoPO determined from 139La NMR relaxation and magnetization data, using the self consistent renormalization (SCR) theory, are in close agreement and follow the universal Rhodes-Wohlfarth curve.Comment: Accepted in PR

    Balance Your Work-Life: Personal Interactive Web-Interface

    Get PDF
    The term work-life balance can be described as a path to manage stresses and burnouts in the workplace. In this Covid-19 pandemic, work-from-home practice includes both personal and professional spaces as employees, more often, stay digitally connected. As a result, personal life hardly can be separated, which will potentially create imbalanced life, which creates problems regarding physical and mental health of the employees. In such unprecedented situations, we are required to maintain and/or integrate balanced work-life. A balanced work-life gives employees a stress-free environment to work and improves employees' mental and physical health conditions and relationships. In this study, we focus on maintaining a proper work-life balance through a monitoring tool, the ‘Wheel of Life.’ Considering the drastic changes in work culture (due to Covid-19, for example), we introduce an interactive interface based on ‘Wheel of life’ concept. Our interface helps tune various important factors, such as business, creative, social, love and life purpose, and provides multiple recommendations. The purpose of the study is to assist web users to balance their work-life, improve psychological well-being and quality of life in this unforeseen situation
