New high fill-factor triangular micro-lens array fabrication method using UV proximity printing
A simple and effective method to fabricate a high fill-factor triangular
microlens array using the proximity printing in lithography process is
reported. The technology utilizes the UV proximity printing by controlling a
printing gap between the mask and substrate. The designed approximate triangle
microlens array pattern can be fabricated the high fill-factor triangular
microlens array in photoresist. It is due to the UV light diffraction to
deflect away from the aperture edges and produce a certain exposure in
photoresist material outside the aperture edges. This method can precisely
control the geometric profile of high fill factor triangular microlens array.
The experimental results showed that the triangular micro-lens array in
photoresist could be formed automatically when the printing gap ranged from 240
micrometers to 840 micrometers. The gapless triangular microlens array will be
used to increases of luminance for backlight module of liquid crystal displays.Comment: Submitted on behalf of EDA Publishing Association

Generation of spin current and polarization under dynamic gate control of spin-orbit interaction in low-dimensional semiconductor systems
Based on the Keldysh formalism, the Boltzmann kinetic equation and the drift
diffusion equation have been derived for studying spin polarization flow and
spin accumulation under effect of the time dependent Rashba spin-orbit
interaction in a semiconductor quantum well. The time dependent Rashba
interaction is provided by time dependent electric gates of appropriate shapes.
Several examples of spin manipulation by gates have been considered. Mechanisms
and conditions for obtaining the stationary spin density and the induced
rectified DC spin current are studied.Comment: 10 pages, 3 figures, RevTeX
Strain-Induced Coupling of Spin Current to Nanomechanical Oscillations
We propose a setup which allows to couple the electron spin degree of freedom
to the mechanical motions of a nanomechanical system not involving any of the
ferromagnetic components. The proposed method employs the strain induced
spin-orbit interaction of electrons in narrow gap semiconductors. We have shown
how this method can be used for detection and manipulation of the spin flow
through a suspended rod in a nanomechanical device.Comment: 4 pages, 1 figur
Shock pair observation
On day 84, 1969, the HEOS 1 satellite observed a shock pair connected with a plasma bulk velocity increase from 400 to approximately 750 km/sec. Both shocks were fast shocks. The forward shock had a Mach number of 1.7, the reverse shock had M(fast) = 1.4. The time interval between the two shocks was 7 hrs, 10 min. The time delay between HEOS 1 and Explorer 35 reverse shock observation (20 + or - 6 min) agrees with the computed time delay (11 + or - 4 min)
Geometrically nonlinear analysis of laminated elastic structures
This final technical report contains three parts: Part 1 deals with the 2-D shell theory and its element formulation and applications. Part 2 deals with the 3-D degenerated element. These two parts constitute the two major tasks that were completed under the grant. Another related topic that was initiated during the present investigation is the development of a nonlinear material model. This topic is briefly discussed in Part 3. To make each part self-contained, conclusions and references are included in each part. In the interest of brevity, the discussions presented are relatively brief. The details and additional topics are described in the references cited
Subtropical middle atmosphere dynamics observed by the Chung Li radar
The Chung Li Radar (24.91 N; 121.24 E) has been operating since 1986. A five beam observational configuration was used on a regular basis to study the various dynamics processes in the atmosphere-lower stratosphere height region. Due to its geographical location, the annual Typhoon and Mei-Yu seasons provide good opportunities to study the various interesting dynamic processes such as instabilities, generation of gravity waves, wave mean field interaction, etc. Three dimensional air motions due to these fronts are presented. Special cases of gravity wave generation, propagation and their effects on the turbulent layers are discussed
Two ultracold atoms in a completely anisotropic trap
As a limiting case of ultracold atoms trapped in deep optical lattices, we
consider two interacting atoms trapped in a general anisotropic harmonic
oscillator potential, and obtain exact solutions of the Schrodinger equation
for this system. The energy spectra for different geometries of the trapping
potential are compared.Comment: 4 pages, 2 figure
Fourier mode dynamics for the nonlinear Schroedinger equation in one-dimensional bounded domains
We analyze the 1D focusing nonlinear Schr\"{o}dinger equation in a finite
interval with homogeneous Dirichlet or Neumann boundary conditions. There are
two main dynamics, the collapse which is very fast and a slow cascade of
Fourier modes. For the cubic nonlinearity the calculations show no long term
energy exchange between Fourier modes as opposed to higher nonlinearities. This
slow dynamics is explained by fairly simple amplitude equations for the
resonant Fourier modes. Their solutions are well behaved so filtering high
frequencies prevents collapse. Finally these equations elucidate the unique
role of the zero mode for the Neumann boundary conditions
