    Equivalence of renormalized covariant and light-front perturbation theory: I. Longitudinal divergences in the Yukawa model

    Light-front perturbation theory has been proposed as an alternative to covariant perturbation theory. Light-front perturbation theory is only acceptable if it produces invariant S-matrix elements. Doubts have been raised concerning the equivalence of light-front and covariant perturbation theory. One of the obstacles to a rigorous proof of equivalence is the occurrence of longitudinal divergences not present in covariant perturbation theory. We show in the case of the Yukawa model of fermions interacting with scalar bosons at the one-loop level how to deal with the longitudinal divergences.     The colours, pigment and phenol contents of young port wines: Effects of cultivar, season and site

    95 port wines were made under standard small scale conditions from grapes of 16 individual cultivars grown at 5 different sites in the Douro valley in northern Portugal during 1977-1983. Grape specific grayity and pH values were measured. The ports were analysed immediately after fortification for colour, pigment and phenol contents and pH. Cultivar variations were up to 12-fold in total pigments, 14-fold in colour density, but only 3.6-fold in total phenols . Seasonal vari ations were up to 2-fold in total pigments and colour density and 1.6-fold in total phenols . Because of seasonal effects and variation in the numbers of each cultivar examined, cultivar characteristics were compared by their mean values with reference to an arbitrarily chosen standard cultivar (Touriga Nacional). Statistical analysis confirmed that the variation in total pigments was affected much more by cultivar than by season. Souzão, Tinta da Barca and Touriga Nacional ports (all from Tua) were the most coloured and contained most pigments. Mourisco (Tua) and Tinta Cão (Baixo Corgo) were the least coloured and contained least pigments. Port colour was dependent principally on pigments content and pH, but small effects attributed to anthocyanin selfassociation and co-pigmentation were also discerned. Differences between sites were generally not significant, apart from some characteristics of Touriga Nacional from Pinhão compared with Tua and Vilariça. which were attributed to the particular strain of fruit at Pinhäo. Nevertheless, there was some indication that the inferior status of Baixo Corgo compared with Cima Corgo fruit may be attributed not only to its generally lower pigments content, but also to smaller percentages of the pigments being expressed in coloured forms

    The canonical structure of Podolsky's generalized electrodynamics on the Null-Plane

    In this work we will develop the canonical structure of Podolsky's generalized electrodynamics on the null-plane. This theory has second-order derivatives in the Lagrangian function and requires a closer study for the definition of the momenta and canonical Hamiltonian of the system. On the null-plane the field equations also demand a different analysis of the initial-boundary value problem and proper conditions must be chosen on the null-planes. We will show that the constraint structure, based on Dirac formalism, presents a set of second-class constraints, which are exclusive of the analysis on the null-plane, and an expected set of first-class constraints that are generators of a U(1) group of gauge transformations. An inspection on the field equations will lead us to the generalized radiation gauge on the null-plane, and Dirac Brackets will be introduced considering the problem of uniqueness of these brackets under the chosen initial-boundary condition of the theory

    Recently, we cloned the cDNA encoding the melanocyte lineage-specific antigen gp100 and demonstrated that gp100 is recognised by three different monoclonal antibodies (MAbs) used to diagnose malignant melanoma. In addition, we showed that tumour-infiltrating lymphocytes (TIL 1200) from a melanoma patient reacted specifically with cells transfected with the gp100 cDNA. Molecular characterisation of the gp100 cDNA revealed that the gp100 antigen is highly homologous, but not identical, to another melanocyte-specific protein, pMel17. Here, we report that cells transfected with pMel17 cDNA also react with all three MAbs used to diagnose malignant melanoma, NKI-beteb, HMB-45 and HMB-50. Moreover, pMel17 transfectants are specifically lysed by TIL1200. These data demonstrate that antigenic processing of both gp100 and pMel17 give rise to peptides seen by anti-melanoma cytotoxic T lymphocytes (CTL) and are therefore potential targets for immunotherapy of malignant melanoma

    The Vector Meson Form Factor Analysis in Light-Front Dynamics

    We study the form factors of vector mesons using a covariant fermion field theory model in (3+1)(3+1) dimensions. Performing a light-front calculation in the q+=0q^+ =0 frame in parallel with a manifestly covariant calculation, we note the existence of a nonvanishing zero-mode contribution to the light-front current J+J^+ and find a way of avoiding the zero-mode in the form factor calculations. Upon choosing the light-front gauge (\ep^+_{h=\pm}=0) with circular polarization and with spin projection h==±h=\uparrow\downarrow=\pm, only the helicity zero to zero matrix element of the plus current receives zero-mode contributions. Therefore, one can obtain the exact light-front solution of the form factors using only the valence contribution if only the helicity components, (hh)=(++),(+)(h'h)=(++),(+-), and (+0)(+0), are used. We also compare our results obtained from the light-front gauge in the light-front helicity basis (i.e. h=±,0h=\pm,0) with those obtained from the non-LF gauge in the instant form linear polarization basis (i.e. h=x,y,zh=x,y,z) where the zero-mode contributions to the form factors are unavoidable.Comment: 33 pages; typo in Eq.(15) is corrected; comment on Ref.[9] is corrected; version to appear in Phys.     Optical spectrum of the post-AGB star HD56126 in the region 4010-8790 AA

    We studied in detail the optical spectrum of the post-AGB star HD56126 (IRAS07134+1005). We use high resolution spectra (R=25000 and 60000) obtained with the echelle spectrographs of the 6-m telescope. About one and a half thousand absorptions of neutral atoms and ions, absorption bands of C_2, CN, and CH molecules, and interstellar bands (DIBs) are identified in the 4010 to 8790 AA wavelength region, and the depths and radial velocities of these spectral features are measured. Differences are revealed between the variations of the radial velocities measured from spectral features of different excitation. In addition to the well-known variability of the Halpha profile, we found variations in the profiles of a number of FeII, YII, and BaII lines. We also produce an atlas of the spectrum of HD56126 and its comparison staralpha Per.     Time to positivity of acute and chronic periprosthetic joint infection cultures

    Introduction: A prolonged incubation time is generally recommended for diagnosing periprosthetic joint infections (PJI). However, in literature, no distinction is made between acute and chronic infections. Methods: All patients with a PJI that underwent surgical debridement between November 2015 and February 2019 with or without revision of the prosthesis were retrospectively evaluated. Synovial fluid, 5 intraoperative periprosthetic tissue samples, and the sonicated prosthesis were cultured. Results: Fifty-nine patients were analyzed, including 21 acute PJIs (33 isolates) and 38 chronic PJIs (46 isolates). In acute PJIs, all isolates grew within 5 days, while this took 11 days for chronic PJIs. Sonication fluid showed the shortest time to positivity (78% at day 2) for chronic PJIs, but no difference was observed for acute PJIs compared to tissue cultures. Conclusion: In contrast to cultures from chronic PJIs, acute PJIs do not need a prolonged incubation time and no clear benefit is observed for sonication. (C) 2020 The Authors.
