Strings from position-dependent noncommutativity
We introduce a new set of noncommutative space-time commutation relations in
two space dimensions. The space-space commutation relations are deformations of
the standard flat noncommutative space-time relations taken here to have
position dependent structure constants. Some of the new variables are
non-Hermitian in the most natural choice. We construct their Hermitian
counterparts by means of a Dyson map, which also serves to introduce a new
metric operator. We propose PTlike symmetries, i.e.antilinear involutory maps,
respected by these deformations. We compute minimal lengths and momenta arising
in this space from generalized versions of Heisenberg's uncertainty relations
and find that any object in this two dimensional space is string like,
i.e.having a fundamental length in one direction beyond which a resolution is
impossible. Subsequently we formulate and partly solve some simple models in
these new variables, the free particle, its PT-symmetric deformations and the
harmonic oscillator.Comment: 11 pages, Late
Bipolar polaron pair recombination in P3HT/PCBM solar cells
The unique properties of organic semiconductors make them versatile base
materials for many applications ranging from light emitting diodes to
transistors. The low spin-orbit coupling typical for carbon-based materials and
the resulting long spin lifetimes give rise to a large influence of the
electron spin on charge transport which can be exploited in spintronic devices
or to improve solar cell efficiencies. Magnetic resonance techniques are
particularly helpful to elucidate the microscopic structure of paramagnetic
states in semiconductors as well as the transport processes they are involved
in. However, in organic devices the nature of the dominant spin-dependent
processes is still subject to considerable debate. Using multi-frequency pulsed
electrically detected magnetic resonance (pEDMR), we show that the
spin-dependent response of P3HT/PCBM solar cells at low temperatures is
governed by bipolar polaron pair recombination involving the positive and
negative polarons in P3HT and PCBM, respectively, thus excluding a unipolar
bipolaron formation as the main contribution to the spin-dependent charge
transfer in this temperature regime. Moreover the polaron-polaron coupling
strength and the recombination times of polaron pairs with parallel and
antiparallel spins are determined. Our results demonstrate that the pEDMR pulse
sequences recently developed for inorganic semiconductor devices can very
successfully be transferred to the study of spin and charge transport in
organic semiconductors, in particular when the different polarons can be
distinguished spectrally
Voros product and the Pauli principle at low energies
Using the Voros star product, we investigate the status of the two particle
correlation function to study the possible extent to which the previously
proposed violation of the Pauli principle may impact at low energies. The
results show interesting features which are not present in the computations
made using the Moyal star product.Comment: 5 pages LateX, minor correction
Exact solutions for supersymmetric stationary black hole composites
Four dimensional N=2 supergravity has regular, stationary, asymptotically
flat BPS solutions with intrinsic angular momentum, describing bound states of
separate extremal black holes with mutually nonlocal charges. Though the
existence and some properties of these solutions were established some time
ago, fully explicit analytic solutions were lacking thus far. In this note, we
fill this gap. We show in general that explicit solutions can be constructed
whenever an explicit formula is known in the theory at hand for the
Bekenstein-Hawking entropy of a single black hole as a function of its charges,
and illustrate this with some simple examples. We also give an example of
moduli-dependent black hole entropy.Comment: 13 pages, 1 figur

Black Hole Deconstruction
A D4-D0 black hole can be deconstructed into a bound state of D0 branes with
a D6-anti-D6 pair containing worldvolume fluxes. The exact spacetime solution
is known and resembles a D0 accretion disk surrounding a D6-anti-D6 core. We
find a scaling limit in which the disk and core drop inside an AdS_2 throat.
Crossing this AdS_2 throat and the D0 accretion disk into the core, we find a
second scaling region describing the D6-anti-D6 pair. It is shown that the
M-theory lift of this region is AdS_3 x S^2. Surprisingly, time translations in
the far asymptotic region reduce to global, rather than Poincare, time
translations in this core AdS_3. We further find that the quantum mechanical
ground state degeneracy reproduces the Bekenstein-Hawking entropy-area law.Comment: 11 page
Bayesian Fit of Exclusive Decays: The Standard Model Operator Basis
We perform a model-independent fit of the short-distance couplings
within the Standard Model set of and operators. Our analysis of , and decays is the first to harness the full
power of the Bayesian approach: all major sources of theory uncertainty
explicitly enter as nuisance parameters. Exploiting the latest measurements,
the fit reveals a flipped-sign solution in addition to a Standard-Model-like
solution for the couplings . Each solution contains about half of the
posterior probability, and both have nearly equal goodness of fit. The Standard
Model prediction is close to the best-fit point. No New Physics contributions
are necessary to describe the current data. Benefitting from the improved
posterior knowledge of the nuisance parameters, we predict ranges for currently
unmeasured, optimized observables in the angular distributions of .Comment: 42 pages, 8 figures; v2: Using new lattice input for f_Bs,
