    The Parable of Paalaikali

    Get PDF
Poetry has a better place in form and content than other genres of literature. It gives life to the lifeless. Light, giving lightless messages as well. Poetry and literature should be rich in content, form, and techniques. Literature should infuse new interpretations and feelings into every study. Only then will it become special in the course of time. The beauty of the poem is that it conveys the meaning of the poem in particular. Words have two kinds of meanings. One is obvious. The other is reference material. Sengupta points out that the object of reference gives beauty to the poem rather than the obvious. Thus, there is a lot of literary elegance in the Paalaikali in the Kaliththokai. Among them, the article describes the elegance of the parable

The discussion in this paper gives several theorems and lemmas on the Sums of Squares of  consecutive Carol Numbers. These theorems are proved by using the definition of carol numbers and mathematical induction method. Here the matrix form and the recursive form of sum of squares of  consecutive Carol numbers is also given. The properties of the Carol numbers are also derived

Optical and anti-oxidant application of zinc doped cadmium sulfide nanoparticle

9-17Present work explains about optical and oxidant activity of zinc doped cadmium sulfide nanoparticle. Compare with undoped cadmium sulfide, zinc doped nanoparticles have different results in IR, SEM, TEM and XRD. EDAX image shows the crystalline arrangement of nanoparticles. Anti-oxidant activity describes using DHHP’s radical scavenging method and optical relation determine by Tauc’s equation

Parallel Smith-Waterman Algorithm for Gene Sequencing

    Get PDF
Smith-Waterman Algorithm represents a highly robust and efficient parallel computing system development for biological gene sequence. The research work here gives a deep understanding and knowledge transfer about exiting approach for gene sequencing and alignment using Smith-waterman their strength and weaknesses. Smith-Waterman algorithm calculates the local alignment of two given sequences used to identify similar RNA, DNA and protein segments. To identify the enhanced local alignments of biological gene pairs Smith-Waterman algorithm uses dynamic programming approach. It is proficient in finding the optimal local alignment considering the given scoring system. DOI: 10.17762/ijritcc2321-8169.150515

Comparative study between Johnson’s formula and Dare’s formula of fetal weight estimation at term

Background: Prediction of fetal weight is one of the methods towards effective management of pregnancy and delivery. To assess and compare the accuracy of clinical and sonographic fetal weight estimation in predicting birth weight at term pregnancy, patients who were in latent or in active phase of labour. In the present study, an effort is made to compare two different clinical methods and USG and relate to the actual weight of the baby at birth. Methods: It is a prospective observational study of one hundred pregnant women satisfying the criteria, consenting for the study was recruited. Both USG and clinical methods will be done and compared with estimated the fetal weight. Weight of the baby at birth will be measured. Results: All the three methods had significant relationship with the baby weight. Percentage error was least with USG and the standard deviation of error was lower with Dare’s formula. The standard deviation was minimal for Dare`s formula EFW followed closely by USG.Conclusions: It can be concluded that Dare’s formula of clinical methods can be a potential option to be promoted in predicting the fetal weight in the absence of USG facilities. Training in this method is very important and can be an integral part in managing pregnancy during delivery in primary care setting

Ruptured Rudimentary Horn Pregnancy at 25 Weeks with Previous Vaginal Delivery: A Case Report

    Get PDF
Unicornuate uterus with rudimentary horn occurs due to failure of complete development of one of the Mullerian ducts and incomplete fusion with the contralateral side. Pregnancy in a noncommunicating rudimentary horn is extremely rare and usually terminates in rupture during first or second trimester of pregnancy. Diagnosis of rudimentary horn pregnancy and its rupture in a woman with prior vaginal delivery is difficult. It can be missed in routine ultrasound scan and in majority of cases it is detected after rupture. It requires a high index of suspicion. We report a case of G2PlL1 with rupture rudimentary horn pregnancy at 25 weeks of gestation which was misdiagnosed as intrauterine pregnancy with fetal demise by ultrasound, and termination was attempted and the case was later referred to our hospital after the patient developed hemoperitoneum and shock with a diagnosis of rupture uterus. Laparotomy revealed rupture of right rudimentary horn pregnancy with massive hemoperitoneum. Timely laparotomy, excision of the horn, and blood transfusion saved the patient

Analysis of Verb Expressions in the Conversational Speech of Kannada-English Speaking Bilingual Persons with Mild Dementia

    Get PDF
Dementia is characterized by the breakdown of intellectual and communicative functioning accompanied by personality change (DSM IV, American Psychiatric Association, 1994). Persons with dementia often experience difficulty in naming skills which can be attributed to semantic memory deficits. This can further influence various linguistic expressions such as lexical and morphological structures. The present study aimed to quantitatively and qualitatively analyze the presence of different types of verb inflections in bilingual (Kannada-English) persons with mild dementia. Considered for the study were 10 healthy elderly and 10 persons with mild dementia who were Kannada-English bilinguals. Spontaneous, conversational speech in all the participants was transcribed from which different types of verb inflexions in Kannada were extracted and analyzed. They included infinite verb, imperative verbs, negative imperatives, optative, and participle verbs. These were quantitatively and qualitatively analyzed for mean number of verbs and their nature including code mixing and switching identifying the significant differences between the two groups of participants. Results suggest that these measures offer a sensitive method for differentiating persons with mild dementia from healthy elderly. The study further helps in delineating prognostic indicator and planning rehabilitative measures which can be helpful tool for management

Automatic Threshold Selections by exploration and exploitation of optimization algorithm in Record Deduplication

    Get PDF
A deduplication process uses similarity function to identify the two entries are duplicate or not by setting the threshold.  This threshold setting is an important issue to achieve more accuracy and it relies more on human intervention. Swarm Intelligence algorithm such as PSO and ABC have been used for automatic detection of threshold to find the duplicate records. Though the algorithms performed well there is still an insufficiency regarding the solution search equation, which is used to generate new candidate solutions based on the information of previous solutions.  The proposed work addressed two problems: first to find the optimal equation using Genetic Algorithm(GA) and next it adopts an modified  Artificial Bee Colony (ABC) to get the optimal threshold to detect the duplicate records more accurately and also it reduces human intervention. CORA dataset is considered to analyze the proposed algorithm
