    Detection of Minimum-Ionizing Particles and Nuclear Counter Effect with Pure BGO and BSO Crystals with Photodiode Read-out

    Long BGO (Bismuth Germanate) and BSO (Bismuth Silicate) crystals coupled with silicon photodiodes have been used to detect minimum-ionizing particles(MIP). With a low noise amplifier customized for this purpose, the crystals can detect MIPs with an excellent signal-to-noise ratio. The NCE(Nuclear Counter Effect} is also clearly observed and measured. The eigenvalues of the Hamiltonian are givein in terms of the Bethe ansatz formulas.     A characterization of positive linear maps and criteria of entanglement for quantum states

    Let HH and KK be (finite or infinite dimensional) complex Hilbert spaces. A characterization of positive completely bounded normal linear maps from B(H){\mathcal B}(H) into B(K){\mathcal B}(K) is given, which particularly gives a characterization of positive elementary operators including all positive linear maps between matrix algebras. This characterization is then applied give a representation of quantum channels (operations) between infinite-dimensional systems. A necessary and sufficient criterion of separability is give which shows that a state ρ\rho on HKH\otimes K is separable if and only if (ΦI)ρ0(\Phi\otimes I)\rho\geq 0 for all positive finite rank elementary operators Φ\Phi. Examples of NCP and indecomposable positive linear maps are given and are used to recognize some entangled states that cannot be recognized by the PPT criterion and the realignment criterion.Comment: 20 page

    Complementarity of Semileptonic BB to K2(1430)K_2^*(1430) and K(892)K^*(892) Decays in the Standard Model with Fourth Generation

    The BK2(1430)l+lB\rightarrow K_{2}^{\ast}(1430)l^{+}l^{-} (l=μ,τ)(l=\mu,\tau) decays are analyzed in the Standard Model extended to fourth generation of quarks (SM4). The decay rate, forward-backward asymmetry, lepton polarization asymmetries and the helicity fractions of the final state K2(1430)K^{*}_{2}(1430) meson are obtained using the form factors calculated in the light cone sum rules (LCSR) approach. We have utilized the constraints on different fourth generation parameters obtained from the experimental information on KK, BB and DD decays and from the electroweak precision data to explore their impact on the BK2(1430)l+lB\rightarrow K_{2}^{\ast}(1430)l^{+}l^{-} decay. We find that the values of above mentioned physical observables deviate deviate significantly from their minimal SM predications. We also identify a number of correlations between various observables in BK2(1430)l+lB\rightarrow K_{2}^{\ast}(1430)l^{+}l^{-} and BK(892)l+lB\rightarrow K^{\ast}(892)l^{+}l^{-} decays. Therefore a combined analysis of these two decays will compliment each other in the searches of SM4 effects in flavor physics.Comment: 28 pages, 12 figure

    Charged Higgs Boson Pairs at the LHC

    We compute the cross section for pair production of charged Higgs bosons at the LHC and compare the three production mechanisms. The bottom-parton scattering process is computed to NLO, and the validity of the bottom-parton approach is established in detail. The light-flavor Drell-Yan cross section is evaluated at NLO as well. The gluon fusion process through a one-loop amplitude is then compared with these two results. We show how a complete sample of events could look, in terms of total cross sections and distributions of the heavy final states.Comment: 15 pages with 8 figure

    Swift, XMM-Newton, and NuSTAR observations of PSR J2032+4127/MT91 213

    We report our recent Swift, NuSTAR, and XMM-Newton X-ray and Lijiang optical observations on PSR J2032+4127/MT91 213, the gamma-ray binary candidate with a period of 45-50 years. The coming periastron of the system was predicted to be in November 2017, around which high-energy flares from keV to TeV are expected. Recent studies with Chandra and Swift X-ray observations taken in 2015/16 showed that its X-ray emission has been brighter by a factors of ~10 than that before 2013, probably revealing some on-going activities between the pulsar wind and the stellar wind. Our new Swift/XRT lightcurve shows no strong evidence of a single vigorous brightening trend, but rather several strong X-ray flares on weekly to monthly timescales with a slowly brightening baseline, namely the low state. The NuSTAR and XMM-Newton observations taken during the flaring and the low states, respectively, show a denser environment and a softer power-law index during the flaring state, implying that the pulsar wind interacted with stronger stellar winds of the companion to produce the flares. These precursors would be crucial in studying the predicted giant outburst from this extreme gamma-ray binary during the periastron passage in late 2017.Comment: 6 pages, including 3 figures and 2 tables.     Topology design and performance analysis of an integrated communication network

    A research study on the topology design and performance analysis for the Space Station Information System (SSIS) network is conducted. It is begun with a survey of existing research efforts in network topology design. Then a new approach for topology design is presented. It uses an efficient algorithm to generate candidate network designs (consisting of subsets of the set of all network components) in increasing order of their total costs, and checks each design to see if it forms an acceptable network. This technique gives the true cost-optimal network, and is particularly useful when the network has many constraints and not too many components. The algorithm for generating subsets is described in detail, and various aspects of the overall design procedure are discussed. Two more efficient versions of this algorithm (applicable in specific situations) are also given. Next, two important aspects of network performance analysis: network reliability and message delays are discussed. A new model is introduced to study the reliability of a network with dependent failures. For message delays, a collection of formulas from existing research results is given to compute or estimate the delays of messages in a communication network without making the independence assumption.
