The heavy-element abundances of AGB stars and the angular momentum conservation model of wind accretion for barium stars
Adpoting new s-process nucleosynthesis scenario and branch s-process path, we
calculate the heavy-element abundances and C/O ratio of solar metallicity
3M_sun TP-AGB stars. The evolutionary sequence from M to S to C stars of AGB
stars is explained naturally by the calculated results. Then combining the
angular momentum conservation model of wind accretion with the heavy-element
abundances on the surface of TP-AGB stars, we calculate the heavy-element
overabundances of barium stars via successive pulsed accreting and mixing. Our
results support that the barium stars with longer orbital period, P>1600 days,
form through wind accretion scenario.Comment: 14 pages, LaTex, 17 PS figures included, accepted for publication in

Lies on the Lips: Dying Declarations, Western Legal Bias, and Unreliability as Reported Speech
When one party is killed by another, there are often no witnesses to the murder other than the killer and the victim who is now absent. In some circumstances, the victim has enough life left to utter some final words to an individual who happens to be in the vicinity of the crime. Usually these statements, known in legal terms as dying declarations, relate to the circumstances of the victim\u27s death, including the identity of the perpetrator. If the crime is investigated by law enforcement authorities, the final words of the victim can be reported by the individual who received this last utterance. If the matter goes to trial, this report may be heard in a courtroom by judge and jury who will decide the fate of the accused, which may include loss of liberty or even death
Macroscopic Quantum Coherence in Small Antiferromagnetic Particle and the Quantum Interference Effects
Starting from the Hamiltonian operator of the noncompensated two-sublattice
model of a small antiferromagnetic particle, we derive the effective Lagrangian
of a biaxial antiferromagnetic particle in an external magnetic field with the
help of spin-coherent-state path integrals. Two unequal level-shifts induced by
tunneling through two types of barriers are obtained using the instanton
method. The energy spectrum is found from Bloch theory regarding the periodic
potential as a superlattice. The external magnetic field indeed removes
Kramers' degeneracy, however a new quenching of the energy splitting depending
on the applied magnetic field is observed for both integer and half-integer
spins due to the quantum interference between transitions through two types of
barriers.Comment: 9 pages, Latex, 4 Postscript figure
Orbital elements of barium stars formed through a wind accretion scenario
Taking the total angular momentum conservation in place of the tangential
momentum conservation, and considering the square and higher power terms of
orbital eccentricity e, the changes of orbital elements of binaries are
calculated for wind accretion scenario. These new equations are used to
quantitatively explain the observed (e,logP) properties of normal G, K giants
and barium stars. Our results reflect the evolution from G, K giant binaries to
barium binaries, moreover, the barium stars with longer orbital periods P>1600
days may be formed by accreting part of the ejecta from the intrinsic AGB stars
through wind accretion scenario.Comment: 7 pages, LaTex, 4 PS figures and 1 table included, accepted for

Calibration of GRB Luminosity Relations with Cosmography
For the use of Gamma-Ray Bursts (GRBs) to probe cosmology in a
cosmology-independent way, a new method has been proposed to obtain luminosity
distances of GRBs by interpolating directly from the Hubble diagram of SNe Ia,
and then calibrating GRB relations at high redshift. In this paper, following
the basic assumption in the interpolation method that objects at the same
redshift should have the same luminosity distance, we propose another approach
to calibrate GRB luminosity relations with cosmographic fitting directly from
SN Ia data. In cosmography, there is a well-known fitting formula which can
reflect the Hubble relation between luminosity distance and redshift with
cosmographic parameters which can be fitted from observation data. Using the
Cosmographic fitting results from the Union set of SNe Ia, we calibrate five
GRB relations using GRB sample at and deduce distance moduli of GRBs
at by generalizing above calibrated relations at high
redshift. Finally, we constrain the dark energy parameterization models of the
Chevallier-Polarski-Linder (CPL) model, the Jassal-Bagla-Padmanabhan (JBP)
model and the Alam model with GRB data at high redshift, as well as with the
Cosmic Microwave Background radiation (CMB) and the baryonic acoustic
oscillation (BAO) observations, and we find the CDM model is
consistent with the current data in 1- confidence region.Comment: 15 pages, 4 figures, 2 tables; accepted for publication in IJMP
Two resonant magnetic modes in an overdoped high- superconductor
A detailed inelastic neutron scattering study of the overdoped high
temperature copper oxide superconductor
reveals two distinct magnetic resonant modes in the superconducting state. The
modes differ in their symmetry with respect to exchange between adjacent copper
oxide layers. Counterparts of the mode with odd symmetry, but not the one with
even symmetry, had been observed before at lower doping levels. The observation
of the even mode resolves a long-standing puzzle, and the spectral weight ratio
of both modes yields an estimate of the onset of particle-hole spin-flip
excitations.Comment: Submitted to PR
Two ultracold atoms in a completely anisotropic trap
As a limiting case of ultracold atoms trapped in deep optical lattices, we
consider two interacting atoms trapped in a general anisotropic harmonic
oscillator potential, and obtain exact solutions of the Schrodinger equation
for this system. The energy spectra for different geometries of the trapping
potential are compared.Comment: 4 pages, 2 figure
A single intrinsic Josephson junction with double-sided fabrication technique
We make stacks of intrinsic Josephson junctions (IJJs) imbedded in the bulk
of very thin (~nm) single crystals.
By precisely controlling the etching depth during the double-sided fabrication
process, the stacks can be reproducibly tailor-made to be of any microscopic
height (), i.e. enclosing a specified number of IJJ (0-6),
including the important case of a single junction. We discuss reproducible
gap-like features in the current-voltage characteristics of the samples at high
bias.Comment: 3 pages, 4 figures, to be published in APL May. 2
