An Energy-conscious Transport Protocol for Multi-hop Wireless Networks

We present a transport protocol whose goal is to reduce power consumption without compromising delivery requirements of applications. To meet its goal of energy efficiency, our transport protocol (1) contains mechanisms to balance end-to-end vs. local retransmissions; (2) minimizes acknowledgment traffic using receiver regulated rate-based flow control combined with selected acknowledgements and in-network caching of packets; and (3) aggressively seeks to avoid any congestion-based packet loss. Within a recently developed ultra low-power multi-hop wireless network system, extensive simulations and experimental results demonstrate that our transport protocol meets its goal of preserving the energy efficiency of the underlying network.Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (NBCHC050053

    Composite MFV and Beyond

We revisit and extend realizations of Minimal Flavor Violation (MFV) in theories with strongly coupled electro-weak symmetry breaking. MFV requires that some chiralities of light SM quarks are strongly composite leading, depending on the scenario, to bounds from compositeness searches, precision electro-weak tests or even flavor physics. Within the framework of partial compositeness we show how to extend the MFV paradigm allowing the treat the top quark differently. This can be realized if for example the strong sector has an U(2) symmetry. In this case the light generations can be mostly elementary and all the bounds are easily satisfied.Comment: 16 pages. v2) estimates improved, conclusions unchange

    Phenomenology of 10^32 Dark Sectors

We postulate an exact permutation symmetry acting on 10^32 Standard Model copies as the largest possible symmetry extension of the Standard Model. This setup automatically lowers the fundamental gravity cutoff down to TeV, and thus, accounts for the quantum stability of the weak scale. We study the phenomenology of this framework and show that below TeV energies the copies are well hidden, obeying all the existing observational bounds. Nevertheless, we identify a potential low energy window into the hidden world, the oscillation of the neutron into its dark copies. At the same time, proton decay can be suppressed by gauging the diagonal baryon number of the different copies. This framework offers an alternative approach to several particle physics questions. For example, we suggest a novel mechanism for generating naturally small neutrino masses that are suppressed by the number of neutrino species. The mirror copies of the Standard Model naturally house dark matter candidates. The general experimentally observable prediction of this scenario is an emergence of strong gravitational effects at the LHC. The low energy permutation symmetry powerfully constrains the form of this new gravitational physics and allows to make observational predictions, such as, production of micro black-holes with very peculiar properties.Comment: 36 pages. v2, note added on oscillation of neutral state, Refs. adde

Footballs, Conical Singularities and the Liouville Equation

We generalize the football shaped extra dimensions scenario to an arbitrary number of branes. The problem is related to the solution of the Liouville equation with singularities and explicit solutions are presented for the case of three branes. The tensions of the branes do not need to be tuned with each other but only satisfy mild global constraints.Comment: 15 pages, Refs. added, minor changes. Typo in eq. 4.3 corrected. Otomatisasi Sistem Kontrol Ph Dan Informasi Suhu Pada Akuarium Menggunakan Arduino Uno Dan Raspberry Pi 3

Molecular analysis has allowed the definitive diagnosis of multiple acyl-CoA dehydrogenase deficiency (MADD)

    Get PDF
Multiple acyl-CoA dehydrogenation deficiency (MADD) is a rare autosomal recessive disorder due to defects in the electron transfer flavoprotein (ETF) or in the electron transfer flavoprotein dehydrogenase (ETFDH) enzymes, involved in the mitochondrial electron transport chain. Patients with MADD fall into different clinical phenotypes, ranging from a severe neonatal presentation, with metabolic acidosis, cardiomyopathy and liver disease to a mild childhood/adult disease, with episodic metabolic decompensation, muscle weakness and respiratory failure.Nowadays, the MADD diagnosis is established by the presence of dicarboxylic organic acids and acylglycine derivatives in the urine and increased levels of medium-and long-chain acylcarnitines in the blood. Mutations in ETFA, ETFB, ETFDH genes, encoding for alpha and beta subunits of ETF and for ETF-dehydrogenase are associated with MADD. We report the case of a three years old child, affected by lethargy and asthenia associated with anorexia. Biochemical analyses showed hypoketotic hypoglycemia with remarkable increments in transaminases, lactic dehydrogenase, aldolase and creatine kinase. The chromatographic layout of urinary organic acids showed a typical dicarboxylic aciduria. Thus, based on these features, MADD was suspected. Fifteen years later, at the age of 19, MADD diagnosis was confirmed by molecular analysis, showing a compound heterozygosity for the mutations c.1074G>C (p.R358S; HGMD: CM031670 in HGMD database) and c.1073G>A (p.R358K) in the ETFDH gene. The c.1073G>A (p.R358K; rs796051959) mutation is reported in ClinVar database as pathogenic allele, although lacking link to a specific clinical condition. However, familial segregation study and in silico analysis, performed by bioinformatics tools, confirmed that this substitution is likely pathogenetic. Her parents were healthy carriers of one of the two mutations. It is known that the severity of the clinical phenotype of MADD may be related to the type of mutation in the ETFA/ETFB/ETFDH genes. Particularly, missense mutations in the ETFDH gene, leaving a detectable residual enzyme activity, may account for the milder form of the disease, as is the case here. In conclusion we suggest that molecular analysis is essential to the definitive diagnosis of MADD and to direct the adequate therapeutic management. Thus, through a close nutritional follow up, a few months ago the patient gave birth to a healthy boy. References Olsen et al. Spin and a Running Radius in RS1

We develop a renormalization group formalism for the compactified Randall-Sundrum scenario wherein the extra-dimensional radius serves as the scaling parameter. Couplings on the hidden brane scale as we move within local effective field theories with varying size of the warped extra dimension. We consider this RG approach applied to U(1) gauge theories and gravity. We use this method to derive a low energy effective theory.Comment: 18 pages, minor changes, references adde
