    Get PDF
Advertising is a means through which products, services and ideas of organizations are brought to the public knowledge. As a means of telling the market about a new product, advertising persuades and reminds the audience of their continuous support of the advertised item. In the face of globalization, varying cultures are shown to have impacted enormously on product advertising. The more companies undertake to market their products and services, the more linguistic and cultural challenges they come across. These cultures create some hurdles which an advertising agency must encounter before a successful advertising is recorded. This study adopts qualitative approach to examine the fusion between culture and production marketing, especially with regards to operations of advertising agencies. It concludes that advertising is very essential and for a product, service or idea to survive and sustain itself in these rough tidings, the advertiser should always embark on meaningful research to understand the market and marketing environment with a view to achieving advert objectives.&#160

Deviant behaviors in schools are behaviors that do not conform to the school norms, culture, rules and regulations. This study is about the teachers’ perceptions of the prevalence of deviant behaviors among the senior secondary two students in mainland zone two. The target population was all the senior secondary teachers in Mainland zone two, with 128 males and 152 female teachers. Data was collected using a self structured questionnaire divided into two sections. Section A comprises the demographic data, while section B has 16 items. The items had subheadings, namely deviancies due to attack on school authority, deviancies relating to attacks on persons or properties, deviancies due to student’s gang attacks and deviancies relating to the poor reading study. The study was guided by one research question and two hypotheses. Mean and standard deviations were used to analyze the data while t testing the null hypothesis at a 0.05 level of significance. Results showed no statistically significant difference between the perceptions of male and female teachers on the prevalence of deviant behaviors in schools. Still, there was a statistically significant difference in perception based on teachers’ age group. Recommendations were made, including provisions for counsellors, and regular seminars/workshops on deviant behaviors to students, school authorities, teachers and parents

Fermentation and sprouting have been shown to increase nutrient bioavailability and modify the functional properties of foods. Application of these methods in the preparation of infant foods and complementing cereals with legumes will address nutrient density and viscosity problems associated with infant foods. Infant foods were formulated from blends of treated bambaranut and pearl millet and chemical composition of the samples were studied. Millet and bambaranut were soaked separately in water and allowed to ferment for 48 hr at room temperature. While for sprouting, millet and bambaranut were soaked for 12 and 24 hr, respectively, at room temperature, and soaked seeds were separately sprouted for 48 hr. After fermentation and sprouting, the seeds were oven-dried and then milled into a flour of 0.6 mm size. The flours were formulated to six (A, B, C, D, E, and F) complementary diets. The results show that blending treated bambaranut with pearl millet significantly increased the protein, fibre, fat and ash content from 14.46, 0.68, 6.21 and 3.32% to 19.35, 1.21, 8.01 and 5.35% respectively; while, the moisture and carbohydrate contents were significantly reduced. In the same vein, blending treated bambaranut with pearl millet significantly increased all the amino acids composition of the blends. However, blending treated bambaranut with pearl millet increased the trypsin, hydrogen cyanide, oxalate and phytate contents; though, the values fall within the safe consumption limit. Hence, this study revealed that, blending treated bambaranut with pearl millet is beneficial in increasing the nutrient density of infant food

Review of Child and Adolescent Sexual Abuse in Nigeria: Implications for 21st Century Counsellors

Child and adolescent sexual abuse (CSA) represent sexual abuse with children and adolescents, and it remains a global concern.  Though prevalent in Nigeria, there is still a dearth of research on its prevention, treatment and disclosure, causing a threat to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs); a threat to the education of young children; a threat to the psychosocial functionalities of children and adolescents and ultimately weakening the strength of the nation. This paper reviewed the literature on child sexual abuse in Nigeria. The focus was to identify research gaps which could lead to further researches as a way of bringing the menace to its much-reduced form, if not complete eradication.  Nigerian-authored, peer-reviewed papers cited in International Journals were examined. Reports from international and local NGOs and U.N. agencies were also considered.  Findings from the review indicate there are fewer published studies on sexual abuse of children compared to the magnitude of the problem in Nigeria. It is mostly underreported, and not many authors explored the causes, effects, and possible strategies to prevent non-disclosure. Nation/region-wide surveys or studies on CSA in Nigeria are also very scarce. Not much on the roles of the counselling profession as a way of helping to prevent, create awareness, as well as providing psychosocial healing for CSA victims in Nigeria has been explored. In the light of fulfilling SDGs, it is recommended that researches that can inform proper counselling in this area, be conducted. Also, the need for nationwide or region-wide surveys which will throw to light the current realities of CSA in Nigeria so that a well-directed approach to its eradication can be explored was emphasized. Furthermore, the need for stricter and well-enforced policies that respect no persons, tribe or religion was also noted

Leaching of Trace Elements in Enugu Coal: Effect of Acid Concentration

The effect of acid concentration on the trace elements composition of Enugu sub-bituminous coal from Onyeama Mine was investigated by leaching the coal using nitric acid (HNO3) of 0.5M, 1.0M, 1.5M and 2.0M concentrations. The amount of trace elements (in ppm) present in the filtrate from the leaching process were determined using Varian AA240 Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer with cathode lamps of arsenic (As), cadmium (Cd), chromium (Cr), copper (Cu), and lead (Pb). Optimum leaching condition of the trace metals were obtained using 2.0M HNO3 solution for 1 hour and 75µm particle size which resulted in the detection of As(1.363ppm), Cu (1.413ppm), Cr (0.764ppm), Cd (0.146), and Pb (1.942ppm). 2.0M concentration of nitric acid has proven to be very effective in the leaching of trace metals in Enugu coal. Result of the SEM analysis shows that the porosity of the coal residue was increased and this provides strong evidence that significant amounts of inorganic elements were removed. Onyeama coal, therefore, contains large proportions of silica, calcium carbonate, and dolomite, as well as some elements such as aluminum, iron, and potassium, and other trace metals such as lead, chromium, cadmium, arsenic, mercury, copper
