Numerical Study of the Lowest Energy Configurations for Global String-Antistring Pairs
We investigate the lowest energy configurations for string - antistring pairs
at fixed separations by numerically minimizing the energy. We show that for
separations smaller than a critical value, a region of false vacuum develops in
the middle due to large gradient energy density. Consequently, well defined
string - antistring pairs do not exist for such separations. We present an
example of vortex - antivortex production by vacuum bubbles where this effect
seems to play a dynamical role in the annihilation of the pair. We also study
the dependence of the energy of an string-antistring pair on their separation
and find deviations from a simple logarithmic dependence for small separations.Comment: 14 pages, in LATEX, 7 figures (not included
Interpolation function of the genocchi type polynomials
The main purpose of this paper is to construct not only generating functions
of the new approach Genocchi type numbers and polynomials but also
interpolation function of these numbers and polynomials which are related to a,
b, c arbitrary positive real parameters. We prove multiplication theorem of
these polynomials. Furthermore, we give some identities and applications
associated with these numbers, polynomials and their interpolation functions.Comment: 14 page
A Hybrid Model for QCD Deconfining Phase Boundary
Intensive search for a proper and realistic equations of state (EOS) is still
continued for studying the phase diagram existing between quark gluon plasma
(QGP) and hadron gas (HG) phases. Lattice calculations provide such EOS for the
strongly interacting matter at finite temperature () and vanishing baryon
chemical potential (). These calculations are of limited use at finite
due to the appearance of notorious sign problem. In the recent past,
we had constructed a hybrid model description for the QGP as well as HG phases
where we make use of a new excluded-volume model for HG and a
thermodynamically-consistent quasiparticle model for the QGP phase and used
them further to get QCD phase boundary and a critical point. Since then many
lattice calculations have appeared showing various thermal and transport
properties of QCD matter at finite and . We test our hybrid
model by reproducing the entire data for strongly interacting matter and
predict our results at finite so that they can be tested in future.
Finally we demonstrate the utility of the model in fixing the precise location,
the order of the phase transition and the nature of CP existing on the QCD
phase diagram. We thus emphasize the suitability of the hybrid model as
formulated here in providing a realistic EOS for the strongly interacting
matter.Comment: 22 pages, 10 figures. corrected version published in Physical Review

Interferometry of direct photons in Pb+Pb collisions at 158 AGeV
We present final results from the WA98 experiment which provide first
measurements of Bose-Einstein correlations of direct photons in
ultrarelativistic heavy ion collisions. Invariant interferometric radii were
extracted in the range MeV/c and compared to interferometric
radii of charged pions. The yield of direct photons for MeV/c was
extracted from the correlation strength parameter and compared to the yield of
direct photons measured in WA98 at higher with the statistical
subtraction method, and to predictions of a fireball model.Comment: 4 pages, 3 figures, proceedings for Quark Matter 200
Sr-Nd isotope geochemistry of the early Precambrian sub-alkaline mafic igneous rocks from the southern Bastar craton, Central India
Sr–Nd isotope data are reported for the early Precambrian sub-alkaline mafic igneous rocks of the southern Bastar craton, central India. These mafic rocks are mostly dykes but there are a few volcanic exposures. Field relationships together with the petrological and geochemical characteristics of these mafic dykes divide them into two groups; Meso-Neoarchaean sub-alkaline mafic dykes (BD1) and Paleoproterozoic (1.88 Ga) sub-alkaline mafic dykes (BD2). The mafic volcanics are Neoarchaean in age and have very close geochemical relationships with the BD1 type. The two groups have distinctly different concentrations of high-field strength (HFSE) and rare earth elements (REE). The BD2 dykes have higher concentrations of HFSE and REE than the BD1 dykes and associated volcanics and both groups have very distinctive petrogenetic histories. These rocks display a limited range of initial 143Nd/144Nd but a wide range of apparent initial 87Sr/86Sr. Initial 143Nd/144Nd values in the BD1 dykes and associated volcanics vary between 0.509149 and 0.509466 and in the BD2 dykes the variation is between 0.510303 and 0.510511. All samples have positive εNd values the BD1 dykes and associated volcanics have εNd values between +0.3 and +6.5 and the BD2 dykes between +1.9 to +6.0. Trace element and Nd isotope data do not suggest severe crustal contamination during the emplacement of the studied rocks. The positive εNd values suggest their derivation from a depleted mantle source. Overlapping positive εNd values suggest that a similar mantle source tapped by variable melt fractions at different times was responsible for the genesis of BD1 (and associated volcanics) and BD2 mafic dykes. The Rb–Sr system is susceptible to alteration and resetting during post-magmatic alteration and metamorphism. Many of the samples studied have anomalous apparent initial 87Sr/86Sr suggesting post-magmatic changes of the Rb–Sr system which severely restricts the use of Rb–Sr for petrogenetic interpretation
