Superconductivity in Layerd Cuprate
A series of layered cuprate (Rut_xNb)Sr2GdCups (Ru1212) for 0 :5 x :5 1 has been synthesized by the solid state reaction method. Powder X-ray diffraction
analysis indicates that oxygen flow is important in the formation of the Ru1212 phase and superconductivity in the system. Samples with nominal composition
(Rul_ x b)Sr2GdCu20 S can be indexed as a tetragonal structure with space group P4/mmm. The undoped compound exhibits the highest superconducting
transition with Tc onsel of 65 K and Tc zero of 55 K. Our results also show that doping with b decreases the normal state conductivity and suppresses
superconductivity in the system
High Resolution BPM Upgrade for the ATF Damping Ring at KEK
A beam position monitor (BPM) upgrade at the KEK Accelerator Test Facility
(ATF) damping ring has been accomplished, carried out by a KEK/FNAL/SLAC
collaboration under the umbrella of the global ILC R&D effort. The upgrade
consists of a high resolution, high reproducibility read-out system, based on
analog and processing, and also implements a new automatic gain error
correction schema. The technical concept and realization as well as results of
beam studies are presented.Comment: 3 pp. 10th European Workshop on Beam Diagnostics and Instrumentation

Comparative genomic analysis of a multidrug-resistant Staphylococcus hominis ShoR14 clinical isolate from Terengganu, Malaysia, led to the discover of novel mobile genetic elements
Staphylococcus hominis is a coagulase-negative Staphylococcus (CoNS) commensal capable of causing serious systemic infections in humans. The emergence of multidrug-resistant S. hominis strains is of concern but little is known about the characteristics of this organism, particularly from Malaysia. Here, we present the comparative genome analysis of S. hominis ShoR14, a multidrugresistant, methicillin-resistant blood isolate from Terengganu, Malaysia. Genomic DNA of S. hominis ShoR14 was sequenced on the Illumina platform and assembled using Unicycler v0.4.8. ShoR14 belonged to sequence type (ST) 1 which is the most prevalent ST of the S. hominis subsp. hominis. Comparative genomic analysis with closely related strains in the database with complete genome sequences, led to the discovery of a novel variant of the staphylococcal chromosome cassette mec (SCCmec) type VIII element harboring the mecA methicillin-resistance gene in ShoR14 and its possible carriage of a SCCfus element that encodes the fusidic acid resistance gene (fusC). Up to seven possible ShoR14 plasmid contigs were identified, three of which harbored resistance genes for tetracycline (tetK), chloramphenicol (catA7), macrolides, lincosamides, and streptogramin B (ermC). Additionally, we report the discovery of a novel mercury-resistant transposon, Tn7456, other genomic islands, and prophages which make up the S. hominis mobilome
A High Luminosity e+e- Collider to study the Higgs Boson
A strong candidate for the Standard Model Scalar boson, H(126), has been
discovered by the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) experiments. In order to study
this fundamental particle with unprecedented precision, and to perform
precision tests of the closure of the Standard Model, we investigate the
possibilities offered by An e+e- storage ring collider. We use a design
inspired by the B-factories, taking into account the performance achieved at
LEP2, and imposing a synchrotron radiation power limit of 100 MW. At the most
relevant centre-of-mass energy of 240 GeV, near-constant luminosities of 10^34
cm^{-2}s^{-1} are possible in up to four collision points for a ring of 27km
circumference. The achievable luminosity increases with the bending radius, and
for 80km circumference, a luminosity of 5 10^34 cm^{-2}s^{-1} in four collision
points appears feasible. Beamstrahlung becomes relevant at these high
luminosities, leading to a design requirement of large momentum acceptance both
in the accelerating system and in the optics. The larger machine could reach
the top quark threshold, would yield luminosities per interaction point of
10^36 cm^{-2}s^{-1} at the Z pole (91 GeV) and 2 10^35 cm^{-2}s^{-1} at the W
pair production threshold (80 GeV per beam). The energy spread is reduced in
the larger ring with respect to what is was at LEP, giving confidence that beam
polarization for energy calibration purposes should be available up to the W
pair threshold. The capabilities in term of physics performance are outlined.Comment: Submitted to the European Strategy Preparatory Group 01-04-2013 new

Complete genome sequence and analysis of a ST573 multidrug-resistant methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus SauR3 clinical isolate from Terengganu, Malaysia
Methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) is aWorld Health Organization-listed priority pathogen. Scarce genomic data are available for MRSA isolates from Malaysia. Here, we present the complete genome sequence of a multidrug-resistant MRSA strain SauR3, isolated from the blood of a 6-year-old patient hospitalized in Terengganu, Malaysia, in 2016. S. aureus SauR3 was resistant to five antimicrobial classes comprising nine antibiotics. The genome was sequenced on the Illumina and Oxford Nanopore platforms and hybrid assembly was performed to obtain its complete genome sequence. The SauR3 genome consists of a circular chromosome of 2,800,017 bp and three plasmids designated pSauR3-1 (42,928 bp), pSauR3-2 (3011 bp), and pSauR3-3 (2473 bp). SauR3 belongs to sequence type 573 (ST573), a rarely reported sequence type of the staphylococcal clonal complex 1 (CC1) lineage, and harbors a variant of the staphylococcal cassette chromosome mec (SCCmec) type V (5C2&5) element which also contains the aac(60)-aph(200) aminoglycoside-resistance genes. pSauR3-1 harbors several antibiotic resistance genes in a 14,095 bp genomic island (GI), previously reported in the chromosome of other staphylococci. pSauR3-2 is cryptic, whereas pSauR3-3 encodes the ermC gene that mediates inducible resistance to macrolide-lincosamide-streptogramin B (iMLSB). The SauR3 genome can potentially be used as a reference genome for other ST573 isolates
Scherk-Schwarz Supersymmetry Breaking for Quasi-localized Matter Fields and Supersymmetry Flavor Violation
We examine the soft supersymmetry breaking parameters induced by the
Scherk-Schwarz (SS) boundary condition in 5-dimensional orbifold field theory
in which the quark and lepton zero modes are quasi-localized at the orbifold
fixed points to generate the hierarchical Yukawa couplings. In such theories,
the radion corresponds to a flavon to generate the flavor hierarchy and at the
same time plays the role of the messenger of supersymmetry breaking. As a
consequence, the resulting soft scalar masses and trilinear -parameters of
matter zero modes at the compactification scale are highly flavor-dependent,
thereby can lead to dangerous flavor violations at low energy scales. We
analyze in detail the low energy flavor violations in SS-dominated
supersymmetry breaking scenario under the assumption that the compactification
scale is close to the grand unification scale and the 4-dimensional effective
theory below the compactification scale is given by the minimal supersymmetric
standard model. Our analysis can be applied to any supersymmetry breaking
mechanism giving a sizable -component of the radion superfield, e.g. the
hidden gaugino condensation model.Comment: revtex4, 22 pages, some numerical errors are corrected in

Benchmarking/Crosschecking DFS in the ILC Main Linac
Abstract In an effort to compare beam dynamics and create a "benchmark" for Dispersion Free Steering (DFS) a comparison was made between different ILC simulation programs while performing DFS. This study consisted of three parts. First, a simple betatron oscillation was tracked through each code. Secondly, a set of component misalignments and corrector settings generated from one program was read into the others to confirm similar emittance dilution. Thirdly, given the same set of component misalignments DFS was performed independently in each program and the resulting emittance dilution was compared. Performance was found to agree exceptionally well in all three studies
