Diffraction of hydroelastic waves by multiple vertical circular cylinders

    Get PDF
The diffraction problem of hydroelastic waves beneath an ice sheet by multiple bottom-mounted circular cylinders is considered. The elastic thin-plate theory is adopted to model the ice sheet, while the linearized velocity potential theory adopted for the fluid flow. The velocity potential corresponding to each cylinder is expanded into a series of eigenfunctions, and the total potential is expressed as a summation of these expansions over the entire NC number of cylinders. For each cylinder, the Green’s second identity is used outside its domain to obtain a set of linear equations. For each different cylinder, the domain used is different. NC cylinders give NC sets of coupled linear equations. Investigations are made for different arrangements of cylinders, piercing through ice sheets. Results for the wave forces on the cylinders with clamped and free conditions of the ice edge are obtained. Physical phenomena corresponding to cylinders arranged in square, in an array, in a double-array and in a staggered double array are discussed

Various Correlations in Anisotropic Heisenberg XYZ Model with Dzyaloshinski-Moriya Interaction

Various thermal correlations as well as the effect of intrinsic decoherence on the correlations are studied in a two-qubit Heisenberg XYZ spin chain with the Dzyaloshinski--Moriya (DM) interaction along the z direction, i.e. Dz. It is found that tunable parameter Dz may play a constructive role on the concurrence (C), classical correlation (CC) and quantum discord (QD) in thermal equilibrium while it plays a destructive role on the correlations in the intrinsic decoherence case. The entanglement and quantum discord exhibit collapse and revival under the phase decoherence. With a proper combination of the system parameters, the correlations can effectively be kept at high steady state values despite the intrinsic decoherence.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figure

Explicit field realizations of W algebras

The fact that certain non-linear W2,sW_{2,s} algebras can be linearized by the inclusion of a spin-1 current can provide a simple way to realize W2,sW_{2,s} algebras from linear W1,2,sW_{1,2,s} algebras. In this paper, we first construct the explicit field realizations of linear W1,2,sW_{1,2,s} algebras with double-scalar and double-spinor, respectively. Then, after a change of basis, the realizations of W2,sW_{2,s} algebras are presented. The results show that all these realizations are Romans-type realizations.Comment: 15 pages, no figures, a reference corrected; v2: 8 pages, two columns, some mistakes are corrected, to appear in PR

Mechanical properties of mesoporous ceria nanoarchitectures

    Get PDF
Architectural constructs are engineered to impart desirable mechanical properties facilitating bridges spanning a thousand meters and buildings nearly 1 km in height. However, do the same 'engineering-rules' translate to the nanoscale, where the architectural features are less than 0.0001 mm in size? Here, we calculate the mechanical properties of a porous ceramic functional material, ceria, as a function of its nanoarchitecture using molecular dynamics simulation and predict its yield strength to be almost two orders of magnitude higher than the parent bulk material. In particular, we generate models of nanoporous ceria with either a hexagonal or cubic array of one-dimensional pores and simulate their responses to mechanical load. We find that the mechanical properties are critically dependent upon the orientation between the crystal structure (symmetry, direction) and the pore structure (symmetry, direction). This journal i

New Spinor Field Realizations of the Non-Critical W3W_{3} String

We investigate the new spinor field realizations of the W3W_{3} algebra, making use of the fact that the W3W_{3} algebra can be linearized by the addition of a spin-1 current. We then use these new realizations to build the nilpotent Becchi-Rouet-Stora--Tyutin (BRST) charges of the spinor non-critical W3W_{3} string.Comment: 8 pages, no figures, revtex4 style, accepted by Chin. The momentum analyticity of two-point correlators from perturbation theory and AdS/CFT

The momentum plane analyticity of two point function of a relativistic thermal field theory at zero chemical potential is explored. A general principle regarding the location of the singularities is extracted. In the case of the N=4 supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory at large NcN_c, a qualitative change in the nature of the singularity (branch points versus simple poles) from the weak coupling regime to the strong coupling regime is observed with the aid of the AdS/CFT correspondence.Comment: 18 pages, 3 figures, typos fixed, 1 figure update

    Next-to-leading order QCD predictions for Z0H0+jetZ^0 H^0 + {\rm jet} production at LHC

We calculate the complete next-to-leading order (NLO) QCD corrections to the Z0H0Z^0H^0 production in association with a jet at the LHC. We study the impacts of the NLO QCD radiative corrections to the integrated and differential cross sections and the dependence of the cross section on the factorization/renormalization scale. We present the transverse momentum distributions of the final Z0Z^0-, Higgs-boson and leading-jet. We find that the NLO QCD corrections significantly modify the physical observables, and obviously reduce the scale uncertainty of the LO cross section. The QCD K-factors can be 1.183 and 1.180 at the s=14TeV\sqrt{s}=14 TeV and s=7TeV\sqrt{s}=7 TeV LHC respectively, when we adopt the inclusive event selection scheme with pT,jcut=50GeVp_{T,j}^{cut}=50 GeV, mH=120GeVm_H=120 GeV and μ=μr=μf=μ0≡1/2(mZ+mH)\mu=\mu_r=\mu_f=\mu_0 \equiv 1/2(m_Z+m_H). Furthermore, we make the comparison between the two scale choices, μ=μ0\mu=\mu_0 and μ=μ1=1/2(ETZ+ETH+∑jETjet)\mu=\mu_1=1/2(E_{T}^{Z}+E_{T}^{H}+ \sum_{j}E_{T}^{jet}), and find the scale choice μ=μ1\mu=\mu_1 seems to be more appropriate than the fixed scale μ=μ0\mu=\mu_0.Comment: 18 pages, 7 figure
