    Cosmological Boundary Flux Parameter

    The {\it{Cosmological Boundary Flux Parameter}} is a novel proposal that attempts to explain the origin of the cosmological parameter Λ\Lambda purely by geometric nature. Then we implement this new approach to a flat FLRW universe along with a barotropic fluid. We present an ansatz in which Λ\Lambda is straightforwardly coupled to the matter sector; therefore, only one additional parameter was introduced: λ\lambda. Also, through a statistical analysis, using late-time data of observational Hubble and type Ia Supernovae, we computed the joint best-fit value of the free parameters by means of the affine-invariant MCMC. We want to emphasise that the joint analysis produces a smaller H0CBFP=69.80Kms1Mpc1H_{0}^{\rm CBFP}=69.80\rm\,\, Km \,s^{-1}\,Mpc^{-1} in contrast to the flat Λ\LambdaCDM result H0ΛCDM=70.53Kms1Mpc1H_{0}^{\Lambda\rm CDM}=70.53\rm\,\, Km \,s^{-1}\,Mpc^{-1}. The work presented here seeks to contribute to the discussion of the possible explanation for the cosmos' acceleration, together with tackling other important questions in modern cosmology.Comment: 15 pages, 6 figure

    The diagnosis of hereditary angioedema: family caregivers’ experiences

    The aim of this study was to understand the experiences of family caregivers in the process of diagnosing hereditary angioedema. An interpretive and qualitative research methodology based on Gadamer’s philosophical hermeneutics was carried out. Data collection took place between May 2015 and August 2016 and included a focus group and in-depth interviews with 16 family caregivers. Two themes define the experiences of family caregivers: “Family life focuses on identifying the problem” and “Discovering and coping with a complex diagnosis.” The process of diagnosis generates fear, anxiety, uncertainty, and incomprehension. Family caregivers are the main support for patients diagnosed with hereditary angioedema. As they share in the patients’ suffering, they need a diagnosis to be established to be able to cope with the disease and offer support. Family health nurses can contribute to improving the coping process in this phase of the disease

    Critical Evaluation of Euler-Euler and Euler-Lagrangian Modelling Strategies in a 2-D Gas Fluidized Bed

    Two-phase granular systems are commonly encountered in industry, and fluidized beds are particularly important due to their excellent heat and mass transfer characteristics. Here, we critically evaluate the differences between two modelling strategies, Euler-Euler and Euler-Lagrangian models. Euler-Euler simulations were performed using MFIX and an in-house code was used for Euler-Lagrangian simulations. A 2D bed of width, height and transverse thickness of respectively, 0.2 m, 0.5 m and 0.01 m, served as a test case. The settled bed height was H0 = 0.2 m. Particles of density ρ = 1000 kg/m³ and diameter dp = 1.2 mm were fluidized with air. The drag-law proposed by Benyahia et al. (10) was used in both models. Comparison between the simulation results was based on both instantaneous and time-averaged properties. A particular focus of this study was the influence of the coefficients of restitution and friction on the simulation results

    Reversal of gulf stream circulation in a vertically vibrated triangular fluidized bed

    Vibrated fluidized beds are a process intensification technique consisting in introducing vibratory kinetic energy in a fluidized bed (1). In this work we assess experimentally the effect of vibration on the gulf-stream circulation pattern of particles in a fluidized bed that is of triangular shape. The bed has 0.206 m span and 0.01 m thickness. The base of the bed is composed of two inclined walls, each one forming an angle of 45º with the horizontal. Air was injected through the inclined bed walls to fluidize the bed (see Figure 1a). This gas injection, together with vibration, can make the dynamics of this bed different to that found in a spouted fluidized bed (2). The bed is filled with ballotini particles with a mean diameter of 1.15 mm up to the top of the inclined walls. The bed vessel is made of antistatic PMMA to allow optical access with a high-speed camera. The bed was mounted on an electrodynamic shaker which produces the vibration. A high speed camera is used to record the motion of particles. The particle velocity was obtained via Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV). As a function of vibration amplitude and frequency, we observe several circulation patterns when the fluidization velocity is just below and above the minimum fluidization velocity. Noticeably, for zero gas velocity, particles ascend close to the side walls descend in the center of the bed. By injecting fluidization gas, the circulation pattern of the bed could be reversed (i.e. particles descending near the side walls ascend in the center of the bed) for certain conditions. For example, reversal of the gulf stream circulation of particles appeared in the triangular bed for gas superficial velocities higher than the minimum fluidization velocity and sufficiently high values of the vibration strength. This phenomenon is illustrated in Figure 1b in which, for the same vibrating conditions, the injection of gas superficial velocity through the walls reverses the gulf stream motion of particles in the bed.     This study was carried out during 90 days in order to know the effect of frying lard on the energy digestibility and nitrogen bioavailability. A significant decrease occurred on energy utilization of the diets prepared with frying lard (52 frying times). Nitrogen bioutilization on growing rats was also affected.Se realiza un estudio de 90 días de duración en ratas con el fin de conocer posibles efectos de las grasas de freidura sobre el coeficiente de digestibilidad energética y la biodisponibilidad del nitrógeno. Se observó una disminución de la utilización de la energía de la dieta con el consumo reiterado de grasas con 52 freiduras y se encontró afectada la bioutilización del nitrógeno del organismo en crecimiento

    Antp transcriptional activity is modulated by the formation of the trimeric Antp-TBP complexes with TFIIEβ, Exd and BIP2

    Homeoproteins are transcriptional factors that bind to DNA through a highly conserved binding domain known as the homeodomain (HD) which recognizes short regions rich in AT to control the development of the body appendages of organisms. However, their structural and recognition similarities make it difficult to explain how homeoproteins are capable of carrying out their function. Previous results have shown that Antp homeoprotein can establish dimeric interactions with TBP, TFIIEβ, Exd, BIP2 and more recently through BiFC-FRET we confirmed that Antp and TBP can form trimeric complexes with TFIIEβ/Exd/BIP2. Therefore, is important to show how these trimeric complexes modulate Antp transcriptional activity. The experimental approach selected for this project was to perform in vitro transactivation assays in HEK-293 cells transfected with the combinations of Antp and TBP-producing plasmids with TFIIEβ / Exd / BIP2 plasmids using a Luciferase reporter plasmid. Our results show that trimeric interaction of Antp-TBP-TFIIEβ induced a significant increase of 138% in the Antp transcriptional activity. By contrast, trimeric complexes of Antp-TBP-Exd and Antp-TBP-BIP2 modified the transactivating capacity of Antp, decreasing transcription by 20 and 26% respectively. According to this, we were able to confirm that the trimeric complexes Antp-TBP/TFIIEβ/Exd/BIP2 are involved in the modulation of Antp transcriptional activity. So, now it is interesting to analyze how these trimeric complexes are involved in the activation and/or repression of target genes of Antp during genetic control of development in Drosophila melanogaster
