Fire safety: A case study of technology transfer
Two basic ways in which NASA-generated technology is being used by the fire safety community are described. First, improved products and systems that embody NASA technical advances are entering the marketplace. Second, NASA test data and technical information related to fire safety are being used by persons concerned with reducing the hazards of fire through improved design information and standards. The development of commercial fire safety products and systems typically requires adaptation and integration of aerospace technologies that may not have been originated for NASA fire safety applications
Applications of aerospace technology in the public interest: Pollution measurement
This study of selected NASA contributions to the improvement of pollution measurement examines the pervasiveness and complexity of the economic, political, and social issues in the environmental field; provides a perspective on the relationship between the conduct of aerospace R and D and specific improvements in on site air pollution monitoring equipment now in use; describes the basic relationship between the development of satellite-based monitoring systems and their influence on long-term progress in improving environmental quality; and comments on how both instrumentation and satellite remote sensing are contributing to an improved environment. Examples of specific gains that have been made in applying aerospace R and D to environmental problem-solving are included

Video Games In Education
The purpose of this paper is to review relevant literature that explored the impact of video games within the field of education. Through a review of studies on video games in education, between 2000 and 2015, I aim to discuss that video games do have educational value in multiple content areas k-12, and educators have effectively implemented video games consistently through the same approaches. In addition, I discuss that there are existing limitations within schools due to educators and a lack of adequate technology available to support the implementation of video games into education. My analysis of the current literature confirms Alexander et. al. (2010) claim that video games can be utilized in every content area, while refuting Alexander et. al. (2010) claim for the best approach for video game implementation into the classroom currently, as well as that I believe educators and a lack of technology are responsible for the very minimal implementation of video games into education. With this in mind, it is my hope that, with this knowledge, the education system can implement video games better to meet student needs and improve educational practice. Finally, I make recommendations for the future of student learning and instruction, as well as ideas for future research
The Reproductive Biology of Small Fishes and the Clutch Concept: Combining Macroscopic and Histological Approaches
Accurate estimates of reproductive parameters important in understanding life history evolution and conservation of small fishes are dependent upon careful assignment of ovarian phases. Proper assignment is based upon the stages of propagule (oocyte) development, oocyte maturation and the location of any clutch or portion thereof within the ovaries. Macroscopic inspection and assignment of ovarian developmental phases have often been used for small freshwater fishes. By contrast, histological methods for assignment of reproductive phases have been developed and are widely used for marine fishes, but they have rarely been used for small freshwater fishes. We review oocyte development, ovum maturation, and the ovarian cycling process using both macroscopic and histological approaches which incorporate the clutch concept. New terminology, including three actively spawning phases based on macroscopic appearance of the clutch (actively spawning-maturation, actively spawning-hydration, actively spawning-ovulation), is proposed. We assert that combining histological and macroscopic methodologies, shown to be complementary, will allow a more accurate and precise understanding of the reproductive biology of small fishes—especially freshwater fishes experiencing effects of habitat change and loss of habitat
