Neutrino masses and mixing angles from leptoquark interactions

    Get PDF
In this paper we show that the mixing between leptoquarks (LQ's) from different SU(2)lSU(2)_l multiplets can generate a non-trivial Majorana mass matrix for neutrinos through one loop self energy diagrams. Such mixing can arise from gauge invariant and renormalizable LQ-Higgs interaction terms after EW symmetry breaking. We use the experimental indication on neutrino oscillation to find constraints on specific combinations of LQ couplings to quark-lepton pairs and to the SM higgs boson. These constraints are compared with the ones from π→eνˉe\pi\to e\bar {\nu}_e.Comment: The expressions for majorana mass matrix of neutrinos have been corrected so that they are symmetric. On the Effect of theta_{13} on the Determination of Solar Oscillation Parameters at KamLAND

If the solution to the solar neutrino puzzle falls in the LMA region, KamLAND should be able to measure with good precision the corresponding oscillation parameters after a few years of data taking. Assuming a positive signal, we study their expected sensitivity to the solar parameters (theta_{12},Delta m^2_{21}) when considered in the framework of three-neutrino mixing after taking into account our ignorance on the mixing angle theta_{13}. We find a simple ``scaling'' dependence of the reconstructed theta_{12} range with the value of theta_{13} while the Delta m^2_{12} range is practically unaffected. Our results show that the net effect is approximately equivalent to an uncertainty on the overall neutrino flux normalization of up to sim 10 %.Comment: 6 pages, 2 figures. Analytic Calculation of Neutrino Mass Eigenvalues

Implicaion of the neutrino oscillation search for the neutrino mass square difference and mixing are discussed. We have considered the effective majorana mass m_{ee}, related for \beta\beta_{0\nu}decay. We find limits for neutrino mass eigen value m_{i} in the different neutrino mass spectrum, which explain the different neutrino data.Comment: 10 page

Super-Kamiokande data and atmospheric neutrino decay

Neutrino decay has been proposed as a possible solution to the atmospheric neutrino anomaly, in the light of the recent data from the Super-Kamiokande experiment. We investigate this hypothesis by means of a quantitative analysis of the zenith angle distributions of neutrino events in Super-Kamiokande, including the latest (45 kTy) data. We find that the neutrino decay hypothesis fails to reproduce the observed distributions of muons.Comment: 6 pages (RevTeX) + 2 figures (Postscript

Lepton Flavor Violation in Supersymmetric SO(10) Grand Unified Models

    Get PDF
The study for lepton flavor violation combined with the neutrino oscillation may provide more information about the lepton flavor structure of the grand unified theory. In this paper, we study two lepton flavor violation processes, τ→μγ\tau\to \mu\gamma and Z→τμZ\to \tau\mu, in the context of supersymmetric SO(10) grand unified models. We find the two processes are both of phenomenological interest. In particular the latter may be important in some supersymmetric parameter space where the former is suppressed. Thus, Z-dacay may offer another chance for looking for lepton flavor violation.Comment: 26 pages, 10 figure

Neutrino Masses and Mixings in a Minimal SO(10) Model

We consider a minimal formulation of SO(10) Grand Unified Theory wherein all the fermion masses arise from Yukawa couplings involving one 126 and one 10 of Higgs multiplets. It has recently been recognized that such theories can explain, via the type-II seesaw mechanism, the large \nu_\mu - \nu_\tau mixing as a consequence of b-tau unification at the GUT scale. In this picture, however, the CKM phase \delta lies preferentially in the second quadrant, in contradiction with experimental measurements. We revisit this minimal model and show that the conventional type-I seesaw mechanism generates phenomenologically viable neutrino masses and mixings, while being consistent with CKM CP violation. We also present improved fits in the type-II seesaw scenario and suggest fully consistent fits in a mixed scenario.Comment: 27 pages, 13 eps figures, revtex4; references added, some minor correction

Global and Unified Analysis of Solar Neutrino Data

We discuss the status of the solutions of the solar neutrino problem in terms of oscillations of νe\nu_e into active or sterile neutrinos. We present the results of a global fit to the full data set corresponding to the latest data presented at the ν\nu-2000 conference. We show the possible solutions in the full parameter space including both MSW and vacuum, as well as quasi-vacuum oscillations (QVO) and matter effects for mixing angles in the second octant (the so called dark side). Our conclusion is that from the statistical point of view, all solutions for oscillations into active neutrinos: LMA, LOW, SMA and the QVO solutions are acceptable since they all provide a reasonable GOF to the full data set. The same holds for the SMA solution for oscillations into sterile neutrinos. LMA and LOW-QVO solutions for oscillations into active neutrinos seem slightly favoured over SMA solutions for oscillations into active or sterile neutrinos. We also analyze the dependence of these conclusions on the uncertainty of the SSM 8^8B flux and on the removal of the data from one of the experimental rates. We also present the results in the framework of four neutrino oscillations which allows for oscillations into a state which is a combination of active and sterile neutrino.Comment: 18 pages with 18 postscript figures included (some of them bitmapped for compression, better resolution at http://ific.uv.es/~penya

An application of decomposable maps in proving multiplicativity of low dimensional maps

In this paper we present a class of maps for which the multiplicativity of the maximal output p-norm holds when p is 2 and p is larger than or equal to 4. The class includes all positive trace-preserving maps from the matrix algebra on the three-dimensional space to that on the two-dimensional.Comment: 9 page

Neutrino Exotica in the Skew E_6 Left-Right Model

    Get PDF
With the particle content of the 27 representation of E_6, a skew left-right supersymmetric gauge model was proposed many years ago, with a variety of interesting phenomenological implications. The neutrino sector of this model offers a natural framework for obtaining small Majorana masses for nu_e, nu_mu, and nu_tau, with the added bonus of accommodating 2 light sterile neutrinos.Comment: 12 pages, no figure, conclusion clarifie

Weak and Electromagnetic Nuclear Decay Signatures for Neutrino Reactions in SuperKamiokande

We suggest the study of events in the SuperKamiokande neutrino data due to charged- and neutral-current neutrino reactions followed by weak and/or electromagnetic decays of struck nuclei and fragments thereof. This study could improve the prospects of obtaining evidence for τ\tau production from νμ→ντ\nu_\mu \to \nu_\tau oscillations and could augment the data sample used to disfavor νμ→νsterile\nu_\mu \to \nu_{sterile} oscillations.Comment: 7 pages, latex, to appear in Phys.
