The Infrared Nucleus of the Wolf-Rayet Galaxy Henize 2-10
We have obtained near-infrared images and mid-infrared spectra of the
starburst core of the dwarf Wolf-Rayet galaxy He 2-10. We find that the
infrared continuum and emission lines are concentrated in a flattened ellipse
3-4'' or 150 pc across which may show where a recent accretion event has
triggered intense star formation. The ionizing radiation from this cluster has
an effective temperature of 40,000 K, corresponding to stars, and

Design and evaluation of a filter spectrometer concept for facsimile cameras
The facsimile camera is an optical-mechanical scanning device which was selected as the imaging system for the Viking '75 lander missions to Mars. A concept which uses an interference filter-photosensor array to integrate a spectrometric capability with the basic imagery function of this camera was proposed for possible application to future missions. This paper is concerned with the design and evaluation of critical electronic circuits and components that are required to implement this concept. The feasibility of obtaining spectroradiometric data is demonstrated, and the performance of a laboratory model is described in terms of spectral range, angular and spectral resolution, and noise-equivalent radiance
Nb3Sn wire shape and cross sectional area inhomogeneity in Rutherford cables
During Rutherford cable production the wires are plastically deformed and
their initially round shape is distorted. Using X-ray absorption tomography we
have determined the 3D shape of an unreacted Nb3Sn 11 T dipole Rutherford
cable, and of a reacted and impregnated Nb3Sn cable double stack.
State-of-the-art image processing was applied to correct for tomographic
artefacts caused by the large cable aspect ratio, for the segmentation of the
individual wires and subelement bundles inside the wires, and for the
calculation of the wire cross sectional area and shape variations. The 11 T
dipole cable cross section oscillates by 2% with a frequency of 1.24 mm (1/80
of the transposition pitch length of the 40 wire cable). A comparatively
stronger cross sectional area variation is observed in the individual wires at
the thin edge of the keystoned cable where the wire aspect ratio is largest.Comment: 6 pages, 11 figures, presented at EUCAS 201
