Gravitational Waves from Wobbling Pulsars

The prospects for detection of gravitational waves from precessing pulsars have been considered by constructing fully relativistic rotating neutron star models and evaluating the expected wave amplitude $h$ from a galactic source. For a "typical" neutron matter equation of state and observed rotation rates, it is shown that moderate wobble angles may render an observable signal from a nearby source once the present generation of interferometric antennas becomes operative.Comment: PlainTex, 7 pp. , no figures, IAG/USP Rep. 6

Relativistic Quark Spin Coupling Effects in the Nucleon Electromagnetic Form Factors

We investigate the effect of different forms of relativistic spin coupling of constituent quarks in the nucleon electromagnetic form factors. The four-dimensional integrations in the two-loop Feynman diagram are reduced to the null-plane, such that the light-front wave function is introduced in the computation of the form factors. The neutron charge form factor is very sensitive to different choices of spin coupling schemes, once its magnetic moment is fitted to the experimental value. The scalar coupling between two quarks is preferred by the neutron data, when a reasonable fit of the proton magnetic momentum is found.Comment: 13 pages, needs axodraw.ps and axodraw.sty for diagrams of Fig.

O efeito da norma subjetiva, percepção de controlo, atitude e experiência passada na intenção de compra de marcas de roupa de luxo no Brasil

SCIELO:S2182-84582014000300013 (Nº de Acesso Web of Science)The main goal of this study is to extend the theory of planned behaviour by introducing past experiences as antecedents of behavioural intentions and to test this model in the context of luxury consumption. In this vein, the Brazilian luxury market, more specifically in the São Paulo area, was selected due to its growing presence on the world stage of luxury products. Therefore, an online questionnaire was constructed based on a literature review, and data were collected. The findings suggest that attitude and perceived behaviour control are more important to explain word-of-mouth, whereas past experience, perceived behavioural control and subjective norms significantly impact willingness to pay more. The consumers most willing to pay more for a luxury brand are also more willing to continue to buy such brands in the near future

Estimação de parâmetros genéticos da produção leiteira e idade ao primeiro parto de vacas Pardo-Suíças por meio de inferência bayesiana.

Estimou-se a herdabilidade e a correlação genética para a produção de leite na primeira lactação (PL) e idade ao primeiro parto (IPP) de animais da raça Pardo-Suíça. Foram utilizados registros de 2.981 lactações, com partos ocorridos entre os anos de 1980 a 2002. Na estimação dos componentes de (co) variâncias foi utilizada a inferência Bayesiana, por meio de amostrador de Gibbs, com tamanho de cadeia de 1.500.000 rounds e período de queima de 500.000 rounds. A frequência de amostragem foi de 500 rounds. As médias estimadas para produção de leite e idade ao primeiro parto foram iguais a 5.347,47±1.849,13 kg e 29,65±4,51 meses, respectivamente. As estimativas de herdabilidade obtidas para a produção de leite e idade ao primeiro parto foram iguais a 0,23 e 0,18, respectivamente. A correlação genética entre elas foi igual a -0,31.
