    Survey on IoT based Cyber Security Issues and Autonomous Solutions for Implantable Medical Devices

    In today’s world the technology has got boomed up to the peak. So as a measure of this technology peak we could see that the enhancement of this has raised very large. This technology booming has also impacted health care sector. In our paper we are going to discuss much on implantable medical devices and its uses which plays a major role in patient’s life. This IMD’s are going to be the life changing aspect of each and every patient. These devices are highly controlled IoT devices (i.e.) those devices are connected through internet which will help doctors to track the details of the patients remotely. On the other hand since all these devices are connected to internet, these are easily hacked by the hackers. The factors of how those devices are much vulnerable and what are all the threats that will make these devices to malfunction and lead a problem to the patients is discussed. And also this will lead the health sector to fall in their reputation. IMD’s are of many types which are in existing in the Medical industry. But we are going to consider some IMD’s as example and we have planned to make a detailed study on the problems on those devices. All these devices are vulnerable since it is connected to internet. So our aim is to completely or partially reduce the risks on those devices via communication network. We have also showcased the possible threats and vulnerabilities chances on those devices. The main scenarios of device control issues and possible solutions have been discussed in this article

    Cache County Water Demand/Supply Model

    This report descibes a municipal water demand forecasting model for use in areas of mixed rural and urban housing types. A series of residential demand functions were derived which forecast water demand based on the ype and density of housing and season. Micro sampling techniques were used to correlate water use data and explanatory variable data for low, medium, and high density housing. The demand functions were incorporated into a geographic information system (GIS) platform cosisting of a desk-top mapping program, MapInfo, coupled with a user interface program written in Visual Basic. The GIS-based model analyzes water demand at the census block level and aggregates the block level demands to a total city residential water demand. Averaged values of explanatory variables for each block are derived using the spacial relations of the block to map objects which have as attributes the various explanatory variable data. The model was applied to each of 23 community water systems in Cache County, Utah. The model projects future demands to the year 2020 based upon the individual community growth rate estimates produced by the Utah state demographers. In addition to projecting future demands, the model includes a supply allocation module which matches each systme\u27s demand with individual water supply sources

    Fock space exploration by angle resolved transmission through quantum diffraction grating of cold atoms in an optical lattice

    Light transmission or diffraction from different quantum phases of cold atoms in an optical lattice has recently come up as a useful tool to probe such ultra cold atomic systems. The periodic nature of the optical lattice potential closely resembles the structure of a diffraction grating in real space, but loaded with a strongly correlated quantum many body state which interacts with the incident electromagnetic wave, a feature that controls the nature of the light transmission or dispersion through such quantum medium. In this paper we show that as one varies the relative angle between the cavity mode and the optical lattice, the peak of the transmission spectrum through such cavity also changes reflecting the statistical distribution of the atoms in the illuminated sites. Consequently the angle resolved transmission spectrum of such quantum diffraction grating can provide a plethora of information about the Fock space structure of the many body quantum state of ultra cold atoms in such an optical cavity that can be explored in current state of the art experiments.Comment: 40 double spaced, single column pages, 40 .eps figures, accepted for publication in Physical Review

    Evaluation of a Cold Staining Method for Acid-Fast Bacilli in Sputum

    Comparison between the Ziehl-Neelscn staining method for acid-fast bacilli, applied with and without heating, was carried out in a controlled investigation using smears prepared from 306 sputum samples collected prior to treatment from suspected cases of pulmonary tuberculosis. Smear and culture positively were graded and the colour intensity of bacilli recorded. Results showed that the chance corrected agreement (Kappa) between Z-N and cold methods was only 78%. The sensitivity of the Z-N and cold methods were 84% and 77% respectively when compared with culture results. Assuming 10% smear positivity among symptomatics reporting to Peripheral Health Institutions (PHIs), the positive predictive value of the cold method was very low(53%). When compared to culture, the positive predictive value is 71% for the Z-N method and 57% for the cold method for a symptomatic population with 15% culture positivity. In the absence of heating. penetration of the stain was significantly reduced and consequently the number of bacilli detected was less. The inability to take the stain without heating was seen in smears from all grades of culture positive samples: thus even heavy positives were missed by the cold method. The evaluation of the cold method against the standard Z-N method highlights its limitations and demonstrates that it is not as reliable as the standard Z-N method

    Abstract: Health care is the diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease, illness, injury, and other physical and mental impairments in humans. Health care is delivered by practitioners in medicine, chiropractic, dentistry, nursing, pharmacy, allied health, and other care providers. E-Health tools allow the construction of patientcentric Healthcare Service Providers that aim to support patients to access health related information, to prevent their possible diseases and to monitor their health status. The system builds a profile for each patient and uses it to detect Healthcare Service Providers delivering E-Health services potentially capable of satisfying the patient needs. The proposed system is HL7-aware represents both patient and service information according to the directives of HL7, the information management standard adopted in medical context. Once patients submit a query the proposed system retrieves a set of relevant services which satisfy the need of the patient. However EHealth is evolving into entities such as mobile health which focus on providing healthcare to people anywhere, anytime using broadband and wireless mobile technologies

    Engineered optical nonlinearity for a quantum light source

    Single-photon pairs created in the nonlinear process of spontaneous parametric downconversion form the backbone of fundamental and applied experimental quantum information science. Many applications benefit from careful spectral shaping of the single-photon wave-packets. In this paper we tailor the joint spectral wave-function of downconverted photons by modulating the nonlinearity of a poled crystal without affecting the phase-matching conditions. We designed a crystal with a Gaussian nonlinearity profile and confirmed successful wave-packet shaping by two-photon interference experiments. We numerically show how our method can be applied for attaining one of the currently most important goals of single-photon quantum optics, the creation of pure single photons without spectral correlations.Comment: 7 pages (4 pages + appendices), 5 figures.     Sex Differences in Associations of Adiposity Measures and Insulin Resistance in US Hispanic/Latino Youth: The Hispanic Community Children's Health Study/Study of Latino Youth (SOL Youth)

    Context: US Hispanic/Latino youth are disproportionally affected by the obesity and diabetes. Objective: We examined associations of adiposity measures with insulin resistance (IR) and hyperglycemia and the influences of sex and pubertal development on these associations. Design, Setting, and Participants: We performed a cross-sectional analysis of 1223 8- to 16-year-old Hispanic/Latino youth from a community-based study in the United States (SOL Youth). Main Outcome Measures: We measured IR (≥75th percentile of sex-specific Homeostatic Model Assessment of Insulin Resistance) and hyperglycemia (fasting glucose ≥100 mg/dL or hemoglobin a1c ≥5.7%). Results: In boys, body mass index (BMI) showed the strongest association with IR [prevalence ratio (PR), 2.10; 95% confidence interval (CI), 1.87 to 2.36 per standard deviation], which was not statistically different compared with body fat percentage (%BF) (PR, 2.03; 95% CI, 1.81 to 2.29) and waist circumference (WC) (PR, 1.89; 95% CI, 1.67 to 2.13) but was significantly stronger compared with fat mass index (FMI) (PR, 1.79; 95% CI, 1.63 to 1.96), waist-to-hip ratio (WHR) (PR, 1.32; 95% CI, 1.21 to 1.44), and waist-to-height ratio (WHtR) (PR, 1.76; 95% CI, 1.54 to 2.01) (P for difference, <0.05). In girls, %BF (PR, 2.73; 95% CI, 2.34 to 3.20) showed a significantly stronger association with IR compared with BMI (PR, 1.48; 95% CI, 1.29 to 1.70), FMI (PR, 1.71; 95% CI, 1.49 to 1.95), WC (PR, 1.96; 95% CI, 1.70 to 2.27), WHR (PR, 1.95; 95% CI, 1.70 to 2.23), and WHtR (PR, 1.79; 95% CI, 1.53 to 2.09) (P for difference, <0.003). Associations between adiposity measures and IR were generally stronger among children in puberty versus those who had completed puberty, with significant interactions for WC and WHtR in boys and for BMI in girls (P for interaction, <0.01). Adiposity measures were modestly associated with hyperglycemia (PR, 1.14 to 1.25), with no interactions with sex or pubertal status. Conclusions: Sex and puberty may influence associations between adiposity measures and IR in US Hispanic/Latino youth. Multiple adiposity measures are needed to better assess IR risk between boys and girls according to pubertal status
