LHC main dipoles proposed baseline current ramping

    Get PDF
Several studies performed from 1994 to 1996 including some in the framework of the Dynamic Effects Working Group, have shown that the magnitude of the magnetic field imperfections generated in the LHC main dipoles depends partly on the shape of the magnetic field ramp. A current ramp optimisation has been carried out with several combinations of mathematical functions. The result of this study is t he proposed baseline current ramp. The graphic representation of this ramp is included in this report. Theoretical dynamic errors expected with this ramp are compared with those produced with a straig ht ramp at constant current rate, thus demonstrating the improvement obtained. A set of formulae and parameters required for the actual calculation of the baseline ramp is given in the Appendix

Multiwavelength optical beam forming network with ring resonator-based binary-tree architecture for broadband phased array antenna systems

    Get PDF
Integrated optical beam forming networks (OBFNs) offer many advantages for phased array applications. ORR-based true-time-delay units can be cascaded in a binary tree topology and tuned for continuously-adjustable broadband time delay. Nonetheless, with large number of antenna elements, the OBFN may become very complex. A novel idea is proposed to exploit the frequency periodicity of the ORRs and the WDM technique to achieve multiple-signal-paths on a single beamformer, thus reducing complexity and costs. The use of high index contrast waveguides in Si-compatible technology further reduces chip footprint and allows the use of integrated OBFNs for large arrays and multi-beam applications

La santé en Suisse : le point sur les maladies chroniques : rapport national sur la santé 2015

    Get PDF

Automatic transmission parameters measurement and radiation pattern simulation for an RF photonic integrated beamformer

    Get PDF
We present the implementation and demonstration of a software tool for the performance characterization of integrated N-by-1 photonic beamformers for phased array antennas. The software operates the automatic measurement of the transmission parameters of an equivalent N+1 ports microwave network, corresponding to the complex excitations of the individual antenna elements of the array. The measured excitations are used to simulate the array factor generated by the optical beamformer and to analyze it in terms of maximum directivity, sidelobe levels and wideband behaviour. The software provides a useful tool to test the wideband performance of the network, the effects of excitation inaccuracies, and a straightforward evaluation of the effects of amplitude and phase weighting for beam shaping

    5-Methoxy-2,2-dimethyl-6-[(2E)-2-methylbut-2-enoyl]-10-phenyl-2H,8H-pyrano[2,3-f]chromen-8-one (calophyllolide)

The title compound, C26H24O5, was isolated from calophyllum inophyllum seeds. In the molecule, the phenyl and 2-methylbut-2-enoyl groups are almost orthogonal to the chromene fragment [C—C—C—C torsion angles = 81.4 (3) and −90.1 (2)°, respectively]. In the crystal packing, centrosymmetrically related molecules are linked by C—H⋯O contacts into dimers, which are connected via further C—H⋯O interactions into a double chain along [010]

Climate and vegetation history of western Portugal inferred from Albian near-shore deposits (Galé Formation, Lusitanian Basin)

The late Early Cretaceous greenhouse climate has been studied intensively based on proxy data derived essentially from open marine archives. In contrast, information on continental climatic conditions and on the accompanying response of vegetation is relatively scarce, most notably owing to the stratigraphic uncertainties associated with many Lower Cretaceous terrestrial deposits. Here, we present a palynological record from Albian near-shore deposits of the Lusitanian Basin of W Portugal, which have been independently dated using Sr-isotope signals derived from low-Mg oyster shell calcite. 87Sr/86Sr values fluctuate between 0.707373 ± 0.00002 and 0.707456 ± 0.00003; absolute values and the overall stratigraphic trend match well with the global open marine seawater signature during Albian times. Based on the new Sr-isotope data, existing biostratigraphic assignments of the succession are corroborated and partly revised. Spore-pollen data provide information on the vegetation community structure and are flanked by sedimentological and clay mineralogical data used to infer the overall climatic conditions prevailing on the adjacent continent. Variations in the distribution of climate-sensitive pollen and spores indicate distinct changes in moisture availability across the studied succession with a pronounced increase in hygrophilous spores in late Early Albian times. Comparison with time-equivalent palynofloras from the Algarve Basin of southern Portugal shows pronounced differences in the xerophyte/hygrophyte ratio, interpreted to reflect the effect of a broad arid climate belt covering southern and southeastern Iberia during Early Albian time

The reaction of (E)-tert-butyl 4-[3-(dimethylamino)acryloyl]piperidine-1-carboxylate with methylhydrazine leads to the formation of the title compound, C14H23N3O2, with a 1-methyl-1H-pyrazol-5-yl substituent. The plane of the pyrazole ring forms a dihedral angle of 33.4 (1)° with the approximate mirror plane of the piperidine ring

On-chip, CMOS-compatible, hardware-compressive integrated photonic beamformer based on WDM

    Get PDF
We propose and experimentally demonstrate a novel, hardware-compressive architecture for broadband and continuously tunable integrated optical true-time-delay beamformers. The architecture is based on on-chip wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) that, in conjunction with the frequency-periodic response of optical ring resonator (ORR) filters, dramatically reduces the network complexity and, in turn, its area occupation on the wafer. This allows the integration of an unprecedented number of delay channels on a single chip, overcoming the main limitation of current integrated beamformers, that is, the limited capability to feed very large arrays when using a single chip. Based on this technique, a novel device is realized with TriPleXTM waveguide technology, using CMOScompatible fabrication equipment, and its functionality is demonstrated over the instantaneous 2-10 GHz bandwidth. At the best of our knowledge, this results represent at the same time the record instantaneous bandwidth (8 GHz) for an optical beamformer based on optical ring resonators(ORR), and the first demonstration of an integrated beamformer where signals from different antenna elements are processed simultaneously by individual delay lines, exploiting the periodic response of ORRs
