Treatment of sentence production in German agrammatism: a multiple single case study

    Get PDF
This multiple single case intervention study focusses on the production of non-canonical sentences with seven agrammatic participants. Cross-over training involved the production of object relative clauses, i.e. syntactically complex sentences and relying on higher nodes in the syntactic tree and object derived who-questions, i.e. less complex sentences and relying on lower nodes. The investigation evaluates individual structure specific effects, generalized effects for sentence structures of the same movement type and different movement type. Individual results, unambiguously attributable to the intervention are reported and discussed within two accounts of treatment of agrammatic sentence production, the Tree-Pruning-Hypotheses (TPH) and the Complexity-Account-Treatment-Efficacy (CATE)

Lectin ligands: New insights into their conformations and their dynamic behavior and the discovery of conformer selection by lectins

The mysteries of the functions of complex glycoconjugates have enthralled scientists over decades. Theoretical considerations have ascribed an enormous capacity to store information to oligosaccharides, In the interplay with lectins sugar-code words of complex carbohydrate structures can be deciphered. To capitalize on knowledge about this type of molecular recognition for rational marker/drug design, the intimate details of the recognition process must be delineated, To this aim the required approach is garnered from several fields, profiting from advances primarily in X-ray crystallography, nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy and computational calculations encompassing molecular mechanics, molecular dynamics and homology modeling. Collectively considered, the results force us to jettison the preconception of a rigid ligand structure. On the contrary, a carbohydrate ligand may move rather freely between two or even more low-energy positions, affording the basis for conformer selection by a lectin. By an exemplary illustration of the interdisciplinary approach including up-to-date refinements in carbohydrate modeling it is underscored why this combination is considered to show promise of fostering innovative strategies in rational marker/drug design

The focus of the work was to make an attempt to prepare an aggregative-stable suspension of ZnO nanopowder with average particle size of 20-40 nm, which was prepared by plasma method in aminoacetic acid. The infrared spectrums of the solution before and after exposure to nanopowder in 2 M glycine solution was used to check the effectiveness of glycine sorption on the particle surface. It was experimentally revealed that the centrifugate, separated from the nanoparticles after incubation in 2M nanopowder surfactant solution with a particle concentration of 2, 10 and 20 wt.% during a week, had a peak height decrease from 11.1 (initial 2M glycine solution) to 9.45 ... 5.3 ... 4.5 units on the IR spectrum at a wavelength of 1250 cm{-1}, and the percentage of adsorbed glycine 15, 52 and 59.4 %, respectively. Selected surfactant has been efficiently adsorbed on the surface of ZnO particles and can be used to stabilize the nanoparticles in aqueous aggregative-stable suspensions
