Renal impairment as a possible side effect of gabapentin - A single case report

    Get PDF
A bipolar I manic patient was treated successfully by adding gabapentin to perazine and clonazepam. Also initially tolerated well, an increase of creatinine after several weeks of GP (2000 mg) was observed which was reversible after discontinuation of GP. It is suggested that the possibility of renal dysfunction should be kept in mind with the usage of gabapentin

Genius of Women: Giving Meaning to Lay Ecclesial Leadership

    Get PDF
The development of lay ecclesial ministry in the Catholic Church as a career field began prior to the Second Vatican Council (Vatican II) with a burgeoning lay apostolate, but professionalization of various ministries coincided with a decline of ordained (priests) and vowed religious (nuns and monks) beginning in the 1960s. Today 39,000 lay ecclesial ministers (LEMs) provide ministry in U.S. parishes with women serving in 80% of those roles. These women LEMs do more than support ministries or substitute for priests. LEMs create new ways of ministering, new ways of being a minister, new configurations of the church’s ministerial structures, and new arrangements of its pastoral life” (McCord, 2012, p. 8). This phenomenological study employed both group and individual interviews with 12 women engaged in ministerial leadership in Catholic parishes in Minnesota to explore the following questions about the leadership of women LEMs in Catholic parishes. How do women LEMs working in parishes ascribe meaning to their leadership in the Roman Catholic Church? What experiences, beliefs, and attitudes inform their understanding of ministerial leadership? How does the meaning they give their leadership inform their ministerial practice? The application of social theory and theological principles in analysis of the data suggests that these women LEMs integrate mission, story, and their experiences as women leaders to both convey and create meaning for their leadership. The findings also indicate that these LEMs integrate their experiences as women who lead into their leadership praxis resulting in a complex vocational commitment to leadership in the Church

Equal Protection for Foreign and Alien Corporations: Towards Intermediate Scrutiny for a Quasi-suspect Classification

    Get PDF
State statutory legislation and, to a lesser extent, federal statutory legislation often discriminates against foreign and alien corporations.\u27 So far, this kind of discrimination against corporations is not accorded much attention in U.S. equal protection doctrine, although the discrimination of alien, natural persons has been topic of much debate and of some well-known Supreme Court cases. This article argues for application of at least an intermediate level of scrutiny, if not strict scrutiny, for classifications on the ground of corporate nationality under the Equal Protection Clause of the U.S. Constitution

The buyout of prosiebensat.1 by KKR and permira – blockbuster or box office bomb?

    Get PDF
This case study describes the buyout of ProSiebenSat.1 during the peak of the buyout boom in 2007. Against the backdrop of the global financial crisis, it illustrates how the financial sponsors pursued an internationalization strategy by combining ProSiebenSat.1 with another portfolio com-pany which eventually led to the financial distress of ProSiebenSat.1. The case study addresses the unique features of the investment thesis, namely the target characteristics as well as transaction structure and how the investors adjusted their initial investment thesis to encounter the issues faced. The deal is an example of many unsuccessful buyouts which happened during the financial crisis

Концептуальное моделирование рисков в интегрированных системах управления

    Get PDF

Eigenvalue Problems in L\mathrm{L}^\infty: Optimality Conditions, Duality, and Relations with Optimal Transport

    Get PDF
In this article we characterize the L\mathrm{L}^\infty eigenvalue problem associated to the Rayleigh quotient uL/u\left.{\|\nabla u\|_{\mathrm{L}^\infty}}\middle/{\|u\|_\infty}\right., defined on Lipschitz functions with homogeneous boundary conditions on a domain Ω\Omega. For this, we derive a novel fine characterization of the subdifferential of the functional uuLu\mapsto\|\nabla u\|_{\mathrm{L}^\infty}. Using the concept of tangential gradients we show that it consists of Radon measures of the form divσ-\operatorname{div}\sigma where σ\sigma is a normalized divergence-measure field, in a suitable sense parallel to the gradient u\nabla u and concentrated where it is maximal. We also investigate geometric relations between general minimizers of the Rayleigh quotient and suitable distance functions. Lastly, we investigate a "dual" Rayleigh quotient whose minimizers are subgradients of minimizers of the original quotient and solve an optimal transport problem associated to a generalized Kantorovich-Rubinstein norm. Our results apply to all minimizers of the Rayleigh quotient, including infinity ground states, infinity harmonic potentials, distance functions, etc., and generalize known results in the literature
