    SEPERATISTS’ AGITATIONS AND QUEST FOR STATE POLICE IN NIGERIA

    An attempt to cultivate a common national identity in Nigeria met with serious obstacles from separatist agitations in Nigerian history which dates as far as 1914. This study examines the Separatists’ agitations and the quest for state police in Nigeria. The study found out that Nigeria Police Force was officially inaugurated on 1st October, 1960 as a government agency saddled with the responsibility of maintaining public peace and order. The study notes that the agitation for state Police has been in the public domain since the Second Republic but only received public attention at the inception of the current democratic dispensation. The study employs primary and secondary source materials including books, journal articles and other scholarly publications to interrogate the study. It concludes that Nigeria’s democracy is too young and fluid for the establishment and operation of a state police system.  Article visualizations

    Political Activities in Ado - Ekiti during Colonial Era

    This paper examines the political activities of the people of Ado-Ekiti during the colonial period. It shows the lifestyle in Ado-Ekiti prior to the advent of colonialism when the family compounds were known by the names of the ancestral chieftaincies. The study highlights the nature of the British military officers, the role played by Captain R. L Bower who clamped down on Ekitiparapo war chiefs up till 1894. The control of Ado-Ekiti fell on Mr. G. E. Humphery in January 1st 1913 as the first British political officer of Ekiti District. Basic facilities were provided, native court was established at Oke Barracks, and religious activities were introduced (Islam and Christianity 1894 and 1897 respectively). By 1940s, modern political activities have been extended by politicians took politics to places like Ado-Ekiti. The political activities engendered the grass root development and promoted peace and development in the area of study. Data for this research was obtained through oral interview, focus group discussion complimented with secondary sources obtained through conference proceedings and journal articles.     African boundary politics: a case of Ethiopian-Eritrean boundary discord

    This paper examined the boundary discord between Ethiopia and Eritrea over the region around Badme which started as a result of artificial boundaries created by the Italian imperialists. The study depicts the evolution of Italian colonialism in Ethiopia between 1936 and 1941. It exposes the differentials existing between the Muslim lowlanders and Christian highlanders. This paper further showcased the activities of armed resistance movements that emerged such as Eritrean Liberation Front (EFL) and Tigrayan People’s Liberation Front (TPLF). The paper discussed the root causes of the war, unlawful expulsion and destruction of houses of Eritreans.     This paper examined the socio-cultural composition and development in pre-colonial Arámokǫ-land. It describes and analyzes the various social stages recorded during the pre-colonial era as well as the human adaptive measure put in place for the various established structures. It further opined that the community; Arámokǫ, possess in large extent, the various social and cultural formations as well as a good climate to sustain its inhabitants and future generations from going into extinction. The value of marriage, family as well as other social and cultural habits i.e. hairdo, arts and craft are considered in the paper.
