Por otro lado, las tareas propuestas muestran grandes posibilidades de mejora, especialmente respecto a la integración de la lengua y usos más innovadores de las TIC.Knowledge about CLIL teaching approaches and the effective integration of ICT into learning processes seem paramount to the success of CLIL in different contexts. Nevertheless, research has shown that pre-service and in-service teachers feel unprepared for effective CLIL programme implementation. Recent research has pointed out that material design might be a successful way of improving knowledge and an aid to help teachers realise effective ICT integration efforts. This study reports on the results of a project which through the creation of specific materials for schools explores CLIL knowledge and ICT integration together with students’ perceptions in a pre-service teachers training programme. The instruments used were a survey and the didactic units created by students, which were analysed for the inclusion of all CLIL stages, ICT use and the dimensions of content targeted. Results indicate awareness of the stages needed to develop CLIL appropriately, and capacity to use ICT in all the stages and to integrate various dimensions of knowledge together with very positive perceptions, which support learning outcomes and point to increased motivation. Nevertheless, the tasks showed ample room for improvement, especially regarding the integration of language and more innovative uses of ICT
Technology use in nursery and primary education in two different settings
This article studies which and how Information and Communications Technologies (ICTs) are used by nursery and primary education inservice teachers as reported by their pre-service teacher trainees after observations in their practicum in two provinces in Spain, Alcalá de HenaresGuadalajara and Navarre. Results indicate that in-service teachers tend to use traditional technological tools (audio f?iles, video f?iles, multimedia, games, Microsoft Word, interactive whiteboards) more than social networking (Facebook, blogs or wikis) both for teaching and for organisational purposes. Thus, more training in recent applications seems necessary to get ICT social applications into education
Flipping the EFL classroom in a secondary education setting: Students’ perceptions and academic performance
Recientemente se ha popularizado un
nuevo modelo de enseñanza denominado «flipped
classroom» o clase invertida.
The flipped classroom teaching model
has gained a lot of popularity lately. The core
idea of this new approach is to switch the class
sequence moving direct instruction out of the
classroom by making students watch videos
that explain the content before coming to class.
This way in-class time is freed up to implement
student-centred activities that engage students
and enhance active learning. Despite its popularity,
studies regarding the implementation of
the flipped classroom focus mainly on fields that
are strongly based on lecturing, such as science,
technology and mathematics, and on university
settings. This case study aims to contribute to
research on the implementation of the flipped
classroom by extending it to an EFL classroom in a
Secondary Education setting. Results obtained in
pre and post-tests and in questionnaires showed
that the flipped classroom improved students’ academic
performance and this new teaching model
was perceived positively by students
Even though the implementation of Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL)
and its results have been researched extensively, fewer works have focused on the effect of contextual factors (CF) on teachers’ beliefs and on which ones are perceived as constraints. Furthermore,
no research has explored how training might change those beliefs and help to adjust or modify
some of the negative effects that CF exert on teaching practices. This qualitative study explores six
in-service CLIL secondary teachers’ beliefs about CF and the effect a training course had on them.
Results confirmed CF are perceived as constraints to the successful implementation of CLIL, and
training appears to have a positive effect in shaping negative teachers’ beliefs and attitudes into
more favourable ones. This, in turn, may help teachers to cope with the unfavourable teaching
situations that CF may provoke on a daily basis. Since CF still seem to hinder CLIL success, considering teachers’ beliefs about them in CLIL teacher training programmes may contribute largely to
teachers’ effectiveness. This work was supported by a Margarita Salas research grant, funded by Universidad Pública de Navarra and the Ministry of Universities of Spain within the Plan of Recovery, Transformation, and Resilience and the European Recovery Instrument NextGeneration EU
