    Preliminary Experience with Digital Subtraction Angiography in Cardiac Evaluation

    iVe report our initial experience using digital subtraction angiography (DSA) techniques for cardiac evaluation. DSA of the heart may be performed with intravenous or right atrial injection of contrast medium (IVDSA) and with left ventricular or aortic root contrast injection (lADSA). The right ventricle and the atria are best demonstrated by IVDSA, while the left ventricle and coronary arteries are best demonstrated by lADSA. The advantages and disadvantages of DSA ofthe bean are discussed. Present equipment limitations restrict the routine use of cardiac DSA, but these should be overcome with advances in technology

    Assessment of the Orifice Area of Bioprosthetic Valves by Orifice-View Roentgenography

    Orifice-view angiography permits us to visualize en face the orifice of the aortic or mitral valve. The radiopaque annulus of bioprosthetic valves assists in permitting the angiographer to position the patient exactly, so that the valve can be seen as if looking directly into the orifice. Orifice-view angiography of porcine bioprosthetic valves has been useful in assessing the size and configuration of the valve orifice. It can reveal a failure of leaflet opening that would indicate degeneration, even when hemodynamic measurements remain equivocal

    A natural history study of the prognostic role of coronary arteriography

    Coronary cinearteriograms, clinical records, and left ventriculograms of 304 patients studied for evaluation of chest pain were reviewed. Clinical and follow-up data on survival of the normal subjects and the nonoperative group with abnormal arteriograms are presented.Ninety-two per cent of patients with typical angina pectoris had serious coronary occlusive disease. Ninety-eight per cent of patients with relatively normal coronary arteriograms survived for one to 60 or more months (mean follow-up period 24 months).There was a high mortality rate when the left main coronary artery was involved (47 per cent) and when the left coronary anterior descending branch was seriously occluded (28 per cent when arteriographic scores were high and 14 per cent when total scores were low) and a low mortality rate (0 to 7 per cent) when the LAD was normal. Mean follow-up interval in these groups was 19 months.The mortality rate was nearly three times greater when patients had QRS changes on ECG of prior myocardial infarction and six times greater when left ventricular contraction was significantly impaired.Peer Reviewedhttp://deepblue.lib.umich.edu/bitstream/2027.42/22297/1/0000740.pd

    Professor Robert Rennie has been one of the most influential voices in Scots private law over the past thirty years. Highly respected as both an academic and a practitioner, his contribution to the development of property law and practice has been substantial and unique. This volume celebrates his retirement from the Chair of Conveyancing at the University of Glasgow in 2014 with a selection of essays written by his peers and colleagues from the judiciary, academia and legal practice. Each chapter covers a topic of particular interest to Professor Rennie during his career, from the historical development of property law rules through to the latest developments in conveyancing practice and the evolution of the rules of professional negligence. Although primarily Scottish in focus, the contributions will have much of interest to lawyers in any jurisdiction struggling with similar practical problems, particularly those with similar legal roots such as the Netherlands and South Africa.
