    Applying the S-Ivac methodology in schools to explore students’ creativity to solve sexual health problems

    A research to evaluate the development of participatory and action-oriented sexuality education projects in schools (7th to 12th grades) (n=16), with the use of ICT will be described with the following objectives: i) to discuss the creativity of students’ visions regarding how the world and their lives could be, and how society and the environment could be improved in relationship to their particular sexual concerns; and ii) to characterize the type of actions carried out to solve their sexual problems. Participant observation, group interviews and materials put online by students were selected as research techniques for the triangulation of data.     Potentials of action-oriented sex education projects in the development of action competence

    Participatory and action-orientated sex education projects were carried out in 15 preparatory and secondary schools in the north of Portugal. This involved three hundred and fifty students from the 7th to the 12th grades. The main objectives were to analyse the level of students’ participation in the project phases and the student’s action competence. The research techniques used were field notes, semi-structured group interviews and documental analysis of material put online by students regarding their projects, online class diaries and discussion e-forums.The results of this study revealed that by using this educational approach, these students: worked on the four dimensions of action-oriented knowledge; used a positive and broad concept regarding sexual health; developed visions aimed at the causes of the problems; actions were carried out in partnership with specialists that involved their parents and their colleagues. 5. most of the students perceived themselves as having a high level of participation in the project.Instituto de Educação, Centro de Investigação em Educação (CIEd

    Uma pesquisa para avaliar o desenvolvimento participativo e ações orientadas para projetos de educação sexual em escolas (do 7º ao 12º anos) (n=16), com o uso de TIC descreverá os seguintes objetivos: i) discutir a criatividade da visão dos alunos em relação a como o mundo e suas vidas poderiam ser, e como a sociedade e meio ambiente poderiam melhorar em relação a suas preocupações sexuais; e ii) caracterizar o tipo de ações feitas para resolver seus problemas sexuais. A observação do participante, entrevista em grupo e materiais disponibilizados online pelos alunos foram selecionados como técnicas de pesquisa para triangulação dos dados.     I nutidens debat inden for sundhedsområdet fremstilles sundhedsfremme og forebyggelse ofte som to begreber, der tilhører hvert sit paradigme. I artiklen sættes der spørgsmålstegn ved denne skelnen, og på baggrund af konkrete eksempler lægges der op til en anden forståelse af paradigmediskussionen inden for sundhedsområdet. Indledningsvis gives der en præsentation af den dominerende diskurs inden for diskussionen af sundhedsfremme og forebyggelse. Dernæst præsenteres og indholdsbestemmes en række nøglebegreber, der oprindeligt er udviklet inden for det sundhedsfremmende område. Det drejer sig om begreberne 'deltagelse', 'handling' og 'handlekompetence'. På baggrund af denne præsentation rejses der en diskussion af, hvorvidt disse begreber er anvendelige inden for hele sundhedsområdet, omfattende sundhedsfremme, forebyggelse og behandling

    In-service training on the development of participatory and action-oriented sexual education in schools

    Participatory action-research constituted by teachers (N=86) from 16 schools was carried out. It was aimed at investigating how teachers’ conceptions and practices change during in- -service teacher training so as to create adequate conditions in the school and implement a sexu- al education project based on the Democratic Health Education Paradigm with the use of information and communication technology. The research techniques selected were aimed towards the triangulation of those techniques and conclusions between the researcher and teachers. Considering its participative dimen- sion, the results of this investigation have im- plications in terms of teacher training and the organisation and management of the curricula.Foi realizada uma investigação-ação partici- pativa envolvendo professores/as (N = 86) de 16 escolas. Esta investigação visou pesquisar como é que as concepções e práticas dos/as professores/as mudaram durante a formação contínua, de modo a criar as condições ade- quadas na escola para implementar um projeto de educação sexual baseado no paradigma de Educação para a Saúde Democrática, com o uso de tecnologias de informação e comunicação. As técnicas de pesquisa selecionadas visaram a triangulação dessas técnicas e das conclusões entre a pesquisadora e professores/as.     Project SoL-A Community-Based, Multi-Component Health Promotion Intervention to Improve Healthy Eating and Physical Activity Practices among Danish Families with Young Children Part 2:Evaluation

    Project SoL is implemented over a period of four years with the aim to promote healthy eating and physical activity among children aged 3–8 years by targeting the families in a Danish municipality based on the multi-component, supersetting strategy. Interventions are implemented in childcare centres, schools and supermarkets in three local communities as well as in local mass media and social media during a 19 months period in the Municipality of Bornholm. The matching Municipality of Odsherred serves as a control site based on its similarity to Bornholm regarding several socio-demographic and health indicators. The present paper gives an account of the design used for the summative and formative evaluation based on a realistic evaluation and a mixed methods approach combining qualitative and quantitative methods. Summative studies are conducted on changes of health behaviours among the involved families and within the municipalities in general, changes in community awareness of the project, changes in purchase patterns, changes in overweight and obesity among the targeted children and changes in knowledge and preferences among children due to sensory education workshops. The formative research comprises studies on children’s perceptions of health, perceptions of staff at supermarkets and media professionals on their roles in supporting the health promotion agenda, and motivations and barriers of community stakeholders to engage in health promotion at community level. The paper discusses operational issues and lessons learnt related to studying complex community interventions, cross-disciplinarily, interfaces between practice and research and research capacity strengthening; and suggests areas for future research.
