Yrast and non-yrast 2(+) states of Ce-134 and Nd-136 populated in relativistic Coulomb excitation

    Get PDF
The first 2+ states in 134Ce and 136Nd and the second 2+ state in 136Nd were populated by Coulomb excitation at relativistic energies, and γ-rays were measured using the RISING setup at GSI. For 134Ce an indication of the excitation to the second 2+ state was observed. This experiment performed for the first time Coulomb excitation to second 2+ states with rare isotope beams at relativistic energies. For 136Nd the View the MathML sourceB(E2;21+→0+), View the MathML sourceB(E2;22+→0+), and View the MathML sourceB(E2;22+→21+) values relative to the previously known View the MathML sourceB(E2;21+→0+) value for 134Ce are determined as 81(10), 11(3) and 180(92) W.u., respectively. The results are discussed in the framework of geometrical models that indicate pronounced γ-softness in these nuclei.status: publishe

Study of the nucleon density distribution of "6He and "8He by proton elastic scattering in inverse kinematics

    No full text
Nuclear matter distributions of the neutron-rich nuclei "6He and "8He were studied via proton-nucleus scattering in inverse kinematics using the recoil detector IKAR. The differential cross sections for p"4He, p"6He and p"8He elastic scattering were measured with an uncertainty of #+-#2% for the absolute normalization for proton recoil energies from 1 to 20 MeV. The experimental techniques and the data analysis are described and first Glauber calculations presented. Data analysis is still in progress so only preliminary results are given. Structure of Ti-55 from relativistic one-neutron knockout

    No full text
Results are presented from a one-neutron knockout reaction at relativistic energies on 56Ti using the GSI FRS as a two-stage magnetic spectrometer and the Miniball array for gamma-ray detection. Inclusive and exclusive longitudinal momentum distributions and cross-sections were measured enabling the determination of the orbital angular momentum of the populated states. First-time observation of the 955(6) keV View the MathML sourceνp3/2−1-hole state in 55Ti is reported. The measured data for the first time proves that the ground state of 55Ti is a 1/2−1/2− state, in agreement with shell-model calculations using the GXPF1A interaction that predict a sizable N=34N=34 gap in 54Ca.12 pages, 3 figures, submitted to Physics Letters B 13 pages, 4 figures, resubmitted to Physics Letters B (major revision to meet the suggestions of the reviewers)status: publishe

Nucleon distributions of "6He and "8He from intermediate-energy proton elastic scattering in inverse kinematics

    No full text
Nuclear matter density distributions of "4He and the neutron-rich nuclei "6He and "8He were studied via intermediate-energy proton nucleus scattering in inverse kinematics using the recoil detector IKAR. For these nuclei, differential cross sections for elastic scattering at low momentum transfer were measured with an accuracy of 2% on absolute normalization. The experimental method and the procedure of data analysis are described. Phenomenological and microscopically calculated nuclear matter distributions were related to the measured cross sections with the aid of the Glauber multiple scattering theory.
