Persistent identifiers – building trust and supporting openness in digital scholarship

    Get PDF
The inevitable ambiguities arising from using names can hamper our ability to reliably and transparently discover, connect, and access resources. If we’re to fully realise the potential of open, digital scholarship then automatic, resolvable connections between researchers, institutions, research outputs and funders are essential. ORCID’s Josh Brown and Alice Meadows outline how persistent identifiers are able to make these connections, allowing for a seamless, unambiguous, and – crucially – trustworthy exchange of information between systems. Adoption of persistent identifiers is increasing all the time and should boost the openness of research and facilitate collaborations

3D Spatial Visualization Instruction within an Introductory Constrait-Based CAD Modeling Course

    Get PDF
Since the Fall 2010 semester, spatial visualization instruction has been integrated into the Introduction to Technical Drawing and Constraint-Based Modeling course at Illinois State University. In addition to these materials, the course also includes instruction in constraint-based CAD modeling and other engineering graphics topics. During the Fall 2015 semester, students were asked to complete the PSVT:R and the MCT to assess their spatial visualization abilities at the beginning of the course. These two assessments will also be given at the end of the course to determine the impact of the course activities on students’ spatial visualization. This paper describes the activities in the course, gives demographic information on the students, presents descriptive statistics related to the pre-test scores, examines the relationship between the PSVT:R and the MCT, and compares the means on the PSVT:R and MCT between students who took the course as a requirement versus those who took it as an elective

What Do Schools Want? Assessing Elementary School Administrator and Teacher Preferences Related to Nutrition Education Program Scheduling

    Get PDF
Extension is positioned to provide school-based nutrition education programs as required by the 2004 Child Nutrition and WIC Reauthorization Act. To enhance program acceptance and sustainability, it is important to consider school administrators\u27 and teachers\u27 interests and preferences regarding nutrition education programming. The project described here assessed interest in nutrition education, scheduling, and implementation format preferences among 34 elementary school administrators and 45 elementary school teachers. Among administrators and teachers interested in Oklahoma Cooperative Extension Service\u27s county educators providing nutrition education programs, the general trend was for in-school student education, consisting of four weekly programs, 30 minutes in length

    Digital Weapons of Mass Destablization

    Get PDF
In the coming decade, a global proliferation of networked technologies will widen the cyber threat landscape. Pairing new and unforeseen cyber vulnerabilities with weapons of mass destruction (WMD) increases the secondary threats that cyber attacks bring and also necessitates a shift in definitions. WMD will become weapons of mass destabilization, allowing adversaries to gain strategic advantage in novel ways. Altering this definition provides clarity and specific actions that can be taken to disrupt, mitigate and recover from this combined threat. Additionally, a new class of Digital WMD (DWMD) will emerge, threatening military, government, and civilian targets worldwide. These combined and new threats will require the expansion of current defensive or mitigation activities, partnerships, and preparationhttps://digitalcommons.usmalibrary.org/aci_books/1035/thumbnail.jp
