They include 2 species of Heliothis, 2 of Mythimna (Pseudaletia), 4 of Spodoptera and 4 of Agrotis. The key was devised to facilitate the identification of some common economic larvae which attack cereals, grasses and pastures in Queensland. It can be used with accuracy only with the ultimate and penultimate instars

    Twisted equivariant K-theory, groupoids and proper actions

    In this paper we define twisted equivariant K-theory for actions of Lie groupoids. For a Bredon-compatible Lie groupoid, this defines a periodic cohomology theory on the category of finite CW-complexes with equivariant stable projective bundles. A classification of these bundles is shown. We also obtain a completion theorem and apply these results to proper actions of groups.Comment: 26 page

    On the Mean-Field Limit of Bosons with Coulomb Two-Body Interaction

    In the mean-field limit the dynamics of a quantum Bose gas is described by a Hartree equation. We present a simple method for proving the convergence of the microscopic quantum dynamics to the Hartree dynamics when the number of particles becomes large and the strength of the two-body potential tends to 0 like the inverse of the particle number. Our method is applicable for a class of singular interaction potentials including the Coulomb potential. We prove and state our main result for the Heisenberg-picture dynamics of "observables", thus avoiding the use of coherent states.     Immune checkpoint inhibitor-induced hypoparathyroidism associated with calcium-sensing receptor-activating autoantibodies

    Context While therapy with immune checkpoint inhibitors such as nivolumab have substantially improved survival in several types of cancer, increased attention has been given to adverse immune events associated with their use, including the development of endocrine autoimmunity. Objectives First, to describe a patient with a two-year history of metastatic small cell lung cancer who had been treated with nivolumab a few months prior to presentation with the signs and symptoms of severe hypocalcemia and hypoparathyroidism. Second, to investigate the etiology of the patient’s hypoparathyroidism, including the presence of activating autoantibodies against the calcium-sensing receptor (CaSR), since humoral and cellular immune responses against the CaSR have been reported in patients with autoimmune hypoparathyroidism. Case and Results A 61-year-old female was admitted with persistent nausea, vomiting, epigastric pain, constipation, and generalized weakness. Laboratory analyses showed low total serum calcium, ionized calcium, and parathyroid hormone (PTH). The patient was diagnosed with severe hypocalcemia as a result of autoimmune hypoparathyroidism after testing positive for CaSR-activating autoantibodies. She was treated with intravenous calcium gluconate infusions followed by a transition to oral calcium carbonate plus calcitriol which normalized her serum calcium. Her serum PTH remained low0 during her hospitalization and initial outpatient follow-up despite adequate repletion of magnesium. Conclusions This case illustrates autoimmune hypoparathyroidism induced by immune checkpoint inhibitor-blockade. As immune checkpoint inhibitors are now used to treat many cancers, clinicians should be aware of the potential risk for hypocalcemia that may be associated with their use

    Cosmology with Hypervelocity Stars

    In the standard cosmological model, the merger remnant of the Milky Way and Andromeda (Milkomeda) will be the only galaxy remaining within our event horizon once the Universe has aged by another factor of ten, ~10^{11} years after the Big Bang. After that time, the only extragalactic sources of light in the observable cosmic volume will be hypervelocity stars being ejected continuously from Milkomeda. Spectroscopic detection of the velocity-distance relation or the evolution in the Doppler shifts of these stars will allow a precise measurement of the vacuum mass density as well as the local matter distribution. Already in the near future, the next generation of large telescopes will allow photometric detection of individual stars out to the edge of the Local Group, and may target the ~10^{5+-1} hypervelocity stars that originated in it as cosmological tracers.Comment: 4 pages, 2 figures, accepted for publication in the Journal of Cosmology and Astroparticle Physics (JCAP, 2011

    The de Rham homotopy theory and differential graded category

    This paper is a generalization of arXiv:0810.0808. We develop the de Rham homotopy theory of not necessarily nilpotent spaces, using closed dg-categories and equivariant dg-algebras. We see these two algebraic objects correspond in a certain way. We prove an equivalence between the homotopy category of schematic homotopy types and a homotopy category of closed dg-categories. We give a description of homotopy invariants of spaces in terms of minimal models. The minimal model in this context behaves much like the Sullivan's minimal model. We also provide some examples. We prove an equivalence between fiberwise rationalizations and closed dg-categories with subsidiary data.Comment: 47 pages. final version.     Recursive Polynomial Remainder Sequence and the Nested Subresultants

    We give two new expressions of subresultants, nested subresultant and reduced nested subresultant, for the recursive polynomial remainder sequence (PRS) which has been introduced by the author. The reduced nested subresultant reduces the size of the subresultant matrix drastically compared with the recursive subresultant proposed by the authors before, hence it is much more useful for investigation of the recursive PRS. Finally, we discuss usage of the reduced nested subresultant in approximate algebraic computation, which motivates the present work.Comment: 12 pages.     Exact two-particle eigenstates in partially reduced QED

    We consider a reformulation of QED in which covariant Green functions are used to solve for the electromagnetic field in terms of the fermion fields. It is shown that exact few-fermion eigenstates of the resulting Hamiltonian can be obtained in the canonical equal-time formalism for the case where there are no free photons. These eigenstates lead to two- and three-body Dirac-like equations with electromagnetic interactions.     Multilayered feed forward Artificial Neural Network model to predict the average summer-monsoon rainfall in India

    In the present research, possibility of predicting average summer-monsoon rainfall over India has been analyzed through Artificial Neural Network models. In formulating the Artificial Neural Network based predictive model, three layered networks have been constructed with sigmoid non-linearity. The models under study are different in the number of hidden neurons. After a thorough training and test procedure, neural net with three nodes in the hidden layer is found to be the best predictive model.Comment: 19 pages, 1 table, 3 figure
