This Fact Sheet presents projections of demographic change in Nevada’s political party coalitions using data provided in the report “States of Change: How Demographic Change is Transforming the Republican and Democratic Political Parties.” Using the composition of the two parties’ electorate in the 2016 presidential election as a baseline, researchers explore age, race, and education characteristics of voters in 14 U.S. swing states to predict the demographic makeup of voting groups in future elections. This Fact Sheet makes comparisons to other swing states, but focuses primarily on Nevada data

Early Childhood Teacher Candidates’ Perception of their Support and Readiness for a Teacher Performance Assessment
Comprehensive early childhood teacher preparation programs offer courses and curricula that are aligned with current research on best practices and related to the knowledge and skills that early childhood teacher candidates are expected to demonstrate on certification exams and teacher performance assessments. To support the alignment of early childhood coursework in a teacher preparation program with a teacher performance assessment (edTPA), the purpose of this study was to examine the degree to which teacher candidates felt their early childhood coursework prepared them for the edTPA. The findings from this study suggest that early childhood teachers’ perception of their readiness for a teacher performance assessment may indicate the extent to which their coursework prepared them to meet the requirements of the edTPA. Implications from this study suggests that early childhood teacher preparation programs should continuously examine how faculty are introducing and supporting professional teaching standards, assessment for learning and evaluation of learning throughout course work and student teaching experiences
An exploration of the gendered constructions of ‘stoner’ identity on a Western Cape campus
Magister Artium - MAThis study employed a social constructionist understanding of ‘identity’ to identify key markers of gendered ‘stoner’ identity and to consider how gendered ‘stoner’ identity is performed on a Western Cape campus. The aim was not simply to consider how they see themselves, but also how they are considered through the lenses and perception of non-smoking students at campus. In trying to understand the gendered experiences of ‘stoners’, this research was grounded in a feminist theoretical perspective and feminist methodological approaches to explore gendered constructions of ‘stoner’ identity at this Western Cape campus.
The data for this study was collected through conducting two focus group discussions, and six semi structured, in-depth interviews with six male and six female students from a range of locations across campus. The participants in this study who smoke marijuana/weed did not reject the term ‘stoner’, rather, they claimed this identity, labelling themselves ‘stoners’. My research shows that ‘stoner’ identities both transgress and reinforce normative femininities and masculinities

Response to Intervention (RtI) is a multi-tier approach to the early identification and support of students
with learning needs. Although there is not a single definition or agreed-upon way of implementing RtI, the
key features of this approach involve gathering information on students’ skills to help teachers plan and
organize instruction, providing evidence-based interventions and supports, and monitoring student
progress in learning (Gersten et al., 2008). The Institute of Education Service (IES) published practice
guides to offer educators specific evidence-based recommendations for supporting reading skills to
students in kindergarten through 3rd grade. These guides were used as a framework to plan and
implement instructional activities that were intended to support the literacy development of students in a
kindergarten class.Response to Intervention (RtI) es un enfoque multinivel para la identificación temprana y el apoyo de
estudiantes con necesidades de aprendizaje. Aunque no existe una definición única o una forma acordada
de implementar RtI, las características clave de este enfoque incluyen la recopilación de información

Criminal Arrests in Clark County, Nevada, by Jurisdiction 2006-2016
Criminal arrests in Southern Nevada are on a downward trend. Despite a record-setting influx in population across the Las Vegas Valley and the surrounding metro area, officers in each of Clark County’s police jurisdictions arrest fewer people every year. The present study utilizes the Arrest Trends Tool created by the Vera Institute of Justice and the FBI’s Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) Program to measure the number of arrests made over ten years for a variety of illegal activities, including drug abuse, violence and murder, property crimes, sex crimes, alcohol-related crimes, theft, white collar crimes, and other offenses. This data set summarizes arrest trends from 2006 to 2016—before, during, and after the Great Recession—to examine the implications of static versus changing crime rates. Metro Monitor 2020: Las Vegas & Reno
This Fact Sheet presents changes in indicators of economic health for the State of Nevada using data provided by the Brookings Institution’s Metro Monitor analysis. Looking beyond gross domestic product (GDP) and job growth, researchers at Brookings’ Metropolitan Policy Program measure various indicators of economic well-being across 192 metropolitan statistical areas (MSAs) for a 1-year period (from 2017-2018) and a 10-year period (from 2008-2018). Metro areas are classified by size: midsized metros (with populations between 250,000 and 500,000), large metros (with populations between 500,000 and 1 million), and very large metros (with populations over 1 million). For the purpose of this Fact Sheet, data for the Las Vegas-Henderson-Paradise, NV MSA and the Reno, NV MSA are extracted and synthesized

Examining the moderating effects of work unit size and task analyzability in the relation between leader's communication style and leader-member exchange
There is a consensus regarding the impact of the leaders communication on the relationship with their followers and on the achievement of organizational outcomes. This study seeks to contribute to clarifying the impact that contextual factors have on the leaders communication in order to know how leaders should adjust their communication style, depending on the job characteristics, to build high quality relationships with their followers. Therefore, the current research examines the moderating role of two context factors in the effectiveness of leaders communication in generating the leader-member relationship. Through a moderation analysis on a sample of 149 white-collar workers, this research study analyzes how work unit size and task analyzability interact regarding six dimensions of leader communication style in relation to LMX. Results suggest that the work unit size moderates the relationship between two dimensions of leaders communication style (preciseness and verbal aggressiveness) and LMX. Specifically, the positive effect of preciseness on LMX smooths as the work unit size increases. The negative effect of verbal aggressiveness on LMX becomes more intense as work unit size increases. Furthermore, task analyzability moderates the positive relationship between emotionality and LMX for low levels of task analyzability. As a result, this study contributes by deepening on why leaders communicative behaviors can have favorable/unfavorable results in specific contexts and on how a leader can modulate his/her communication style according to the context, in order to improve the LMX.
