Evaluation of attention variability by modulation of visual and auditory stimuli in childrenās communication process : doctoral thesis
ostvarivanje Å”to efikasnije i preciznije komunikacije.
varijabilnost pažnje djece kroz modulaciju i evaluaciju specifiÄnih vizualnih i auditivnih
stimulusa.
metodologije kvalitativne usporedbe ispitivanih perceptualnih atributa auditivnih i vizualnih
Modern research places emphasis on the analysis of processes and models that can enhance
communication, however insufficient emphasis is placed on the analysis of the communication
process in children with hyperactive disorder. The quality of communication process is largely
determined by perception and attention, which are influenced, among other things, by factors
such as: the intensity of stimulus structures, extensity, unusualness, strength, and repetition of
auditory and visual stimuli. Variability of attention processes in children is one of the
components that is important in determining stimuli and the perception of stimuli as well as the
realization of more efficient and accurate communication. A significant challenge are the
difficulties in the communication process in children with ADHD, which are manifested in the
detection, discrimination and recognition of auditory and visual stimuli as they can disrupt the
communication process and negatively affect the attention of an individual. In the modern
world, increased emphasis is placed on the analysis of models that can enhance communication,
i.e. reduce the impact of noise during the communication process in order to make
communication more efficient and accurate. The research activities of this dissertation are
focused on the analysis of communication processes related to the variability of children's
attention through modulation and evaluation of specific visual and auditory stimuli. The aim of
the research is to determine the perceptual attributes of auditory and visual stimuli that can
affect the communication process in children by impeding it by creating noise in the
communication channel. The assumption that communication is sensory variable implies that
different sensory constructs, such as threshold of auditory and visual stimuli, variability of
attention to sensory stimulus, the response time, and many others can affect communication
process by altering its final outcome.
By analyzing the results obtained by experimental research, the understanding of the threshold
of stimulation by auditory and visual stimuli is broadened, which yields insight into the
specifics of detection, discrimination and interpretation during the communication process in
children with hyperactive disorder. At the cognitive level, scientific contribution was achieved
through the presentation of the specifics of perceptual attributes of auditory and visual stimuli
on the outcome of the communication process in children with ADHD, and the communication
competence of an individual, while at the methodological level through the development of
original methodology for qualitative comparison of perceptual attributes of auditory and visual
stimuli of subjects in the experimental and control groups by using statistical parameter
analysis. At the practical level, inventiveness through the application of the obtained results is
manifested through the utilization of the same with the aim of more successful communication
with aforementioned group of respondents, but further guidelines for creating a unique
theoretical framework for understanding the relationship between auditory and visual stimuli
and attention disorder are also developed
