Male Teachers of Color Take a Lesson From Each Other
The author tells of the experience of cofounding a group of male teachers of color within the Boston Teacher Residency program. The group's theory of action was that professional development focused on addressing the unique challenges of male teachers of color would help these teachers develop tools and strategies to navigate their school environment. More importantly, these male teachers of color would be better able to focus on creating conditions that facilitated learning for students -- the majority of whom were of color and from working class families

VAT: Is it Suitable for the Caribbean Community?
The Caribbean Community is in transition, moving toward a liberalized trade environment with low tariffs. Tax reform is at the forefront of the policy response since traditional sources of tax revenue such as import duties are on the decline. This paper evaluates the suitability of the VAT to countries of the Caribbean Community. We examine theoretical arguments, practical experiences of the Caribbean with the VAT and the economic and tax characteristics of the Caribbean. We conclude by supporting VAT implementation in the Caribbean Community. This paper also reflects a comprehensive survey of tax reform efforts in the Caribbean.Value Added Tax; Caribbean Community

Finance as a foreign language
Version of RecordStudents in introductory finance courses have diverse worldviews, learning styles and motives for taking the course. While there are many differences between teaching a second traditional language and finance, there are also many similarities. For some students, finance is indeed a foreign language. Consequently many of the techniques used in teaching English as a foreign language (TEFL) may be adapted for use by teachers of finance. An overview of a particular TEFL approach, communicative language teaching (CLT), is provided. At first glance, it seems the barrier most likely to affect one's decision to adopt CLT strategies for finance is the preparatory time required.Bristol, K. (2008).
