A recent theorem by Bogopolski-Martino-Ventura gave a renovated protagonism to this notion and motivated several interesting algebraic applications

Cross border Classical Swine Fever control: Improving Dutch and German crisis management systems by an integrated public-private approach

The objective of this research approach is to analyse in which ways crisis management measures against Classical Swine Fever (CSF) can be improved by a public private cross border model. A core activity contains the analysis of information and communication systems: In a case study it has been empirically analysed if a sufficient supply of public and private information enables crisis managers at both sides of the Dutch-German border area to take decisions about CSF control more efficient. At the end of this approach a new crisis management model had been developed. One of the most important aspects thereby is the assessment of data: (1) within private quality management systems in normal times according to the benefit for public management tasks in times of crisis and (2) within public crisis management systems according to the benefit for cross-border CSF-control activities. To this effect two different methodological approaches have been combined within the model: (1) a method to identify and illustrate public actors and their options in crisis management decision making and (2) a system of communication and information exchange between public and private as well as Dutch and German actors (engage& exchange model) which permit to collect and to evaluate data in addition for a predefined time period are activated

(Orpheus wendet sich um) : szenisch-musikalische Interpretation der drei Orpheus-Opern

So wie sich Orpheus im Hades umwendet, weil er sich versichern will, dass seine Eurydike noch hinter ihm ist, so muss sich heute die Musikpädagogik immer wieder umwenden, um sich zu vergewissern, dass die SchülerInnen ihr folgen. Während Orpheus jedoch die Gattin zum zweiten Mal verliert, besteht im Unterricht die Chance, durch neue Methoden das Interesse für Musik zu stärken. Die Szenische Interpretation von Musiktheater gibt dem „Musiklehrerstand“ die Möglichkeit, durch spielerische Motivation einen Zugang zu den Werken zu schaffen, der eine Zeit lang die „Not und Plage“ der Schule vergessen lässt. SchülerInnen und LehrerInnen verhalten sich anders im Umgang miteinander, werden zu SpielerInnen und SpielleiterInnen, die gemeinsam eine Interpretation der Werke erarbeiten. Wir haben das vorliegende Konzept in verschiedenen SchülerInnen-, StudentInnen- und LehrerInnengruppen durchgeführt - „ein halbes Dutzend Lektionen“ -, bis wir zu dieser Version gekommen sind. Allen Beteiligten gilt unser Dank, besonders den SchülerInnen der Klasse 10a des Goethe-Gymnasiums in Berlin Wilmersdorf und deren Musiklehrer Gero Krüger. In dieser Klasse sind die Fotos entstanden und viele Anregungen der SchülerInnen waren wichtig für die Überarbeitung einzelner Spielverfahren. Die Auseinandersetzung mit der Thematik kann schon in der 8. oder 9. Klasse beginnen, je nach Reifegrad der SchülerInnen. In der Oberstufe bietet es sich dann an, einzelne Themen zu vertiefen oder musikalische Analysen im Anschluss an die Methoden zu erarbeiten

Feasibility of a Unitary Quantum Dynamics in the Gowdy T3T^3 Cosmological Model

It has been pointed out that it is impossible to obtain a unitary implementation of the dynamics for the polarized Gowdy $T^{3}$ cosmologies in an otherwise satisfactory, nonperturbative canonical quantization proposed for these spacetimes. By introducing suitable techniques to deal with deparametrized models in cosmology that possess an explicit time dependence (as it is the case for the toroidal Gowdy model), we present in this paper a detailed analysis about the roots of this failure of unitarity. We investigate the impediments to a unitary implementation of the evolution by considering modifications to the dynamics. These modifications may be regarded as perturbations. We show in a precise manner why and where unitary implementability fails in our system, and prove that the obstructions are extremely sensitive to modifications in the Hamiltonian that dictates the time evolution of the symmetry-reduced model. We are able to characterize to a certain extent how far the model is from unitarity. Moreover, we demonstrate that the dynamics can actually be approximated as much as one wants by means of unitary transformations.Comment: 12 pages, version accepted for publication in Physical Review

Vom Gestus zur Struktur : szenische Interpretation von "Moses und Aron"

Die beiden vorgestellten Szenen sind einem Gesamtkonzept zur szenischen Interpretation von „Moses und Aron“ entnommen. Sie zeigen, wie eine historische Re-Konstruktion musikpraktisch stattfindet durch De-Konstruktion der Partitur und Rückführung eines religionsphilosophischen Textes auf den realistischen Gehalt der „Story“. Interessanterweise haben die bisherigen Erfahrungen mit Schüler/innen gezeigt, dass diese realistische Wende der Schönbergschen Oper bei den Jugendlichen lebhafte „existentielle“ Debatten auslöst: Was heißt „Gottesidee“, was bedeutet „auserwählt“, was ist eine „revolutionäre Ideologie“ und - last but not least - warum haben die afroamerikanischen Sklaven „Go down Moses“ gesungen“? Die beiden hier vorgestellten Szenen zeigen, wie auf dem Weg über Rolleneinfühlung sowie Geh- und Sprechhaltungen ein Zugang zu einer komplexen Partitur ermöglicht wird. Die szenische Interpretation führt durch die Auseinandersetzung mit dem Inhalt und nicht über Musiktheorie oder Intonationsübungen hin zu Zwölftonmusik und erschließt eine wirkungsvolle Partitur: vom Gestus zur Struktur

Beam-beam instability driven by wakefield effects in linear colliders

The vertical beam profile distortions induced by wakefield effects in linear colliders (the so-called ``banana effect'') generate a beam-beam instability at the collision point when the vertical disruption parameter is large. We illustrate this effect in the case of the TESLA linear collider project. We specify the tolerance on the associated emittance growth, which translates into tolerances on injection jitter and, for a given tuning procedure, on structure misalignments. We look for possible cures based on fast orbit correction at the interaction point and using a fast luminosity monitor
