Precipitation regime for selected amino acid salts for CO2 capture from flue gases

The tendency of alkaline (sodium, potassium and lithium) salts of taurine, β-alanine, sarcosine and L-proline to form precipitates under varying operational conditions of CO2 absorption has been investigated. CO2 absorption experiments have been performed at 293.15 and 313.15 K, at partial pressures relevant for capturing CO2 from flue gas conditions and amino acid salt concentrations up to the saturation concentration. In addition to this ‘window of operation’ for the (non-) precipitation regime, the identity of precipitates formed was revealed and relevant properties like density of the saturated aqueous amino acid salt solutions at 293.15 K have been determined

Outcome of anxiety and depression in general health care:a three-wave 3.5-year study of psychopathology, disability and life stress

The outcome of anxiety and depression in general health care settings was examined. At follow-up, many cases no longer met the criteria of their baseline diagnosis and disability levels had substantially dropped. However, partial remission, not full recovery, was the rule, and was associated with residual disability. Depression had better outcomes than anxiety; mixed anxiety/depression did worst. Life events often triggered improvement except amongst mixed anxiety/depression patients.</p

Identification of Quantitative Trait Loci for Flowering Time in a Field-Grown \u3cem\u3eLolium Perene x Lolium Multiflorum\u3c/em\u3e Mapping Population

Perennial ryegrass (L. perenne) and annual, or Italian, ryegrass (L. multiflorum) are considered to be separate species by the seed trade, and are used and bred for distinct purposes. However, the two species are cross-fertile. Seed producers rely on the different flowering times of the two species to produce pure seed. Flowering times can overlap, leading to genetic mixing. Contamination of perennial ryegrass seed lots with annual types is an expensive problem for grass seed producers in western Oregon, USA

Primary Polyomavirus Infection, Not Reactivation, as the Cause of Trichodysplasia Spinulosa in Immunocompromised Patients

Classic human polyomaviruses (JC and BK viruses) become pathogenic when reactivating from latency. For the rare skin disease trichodysplasia spinulosa, we show that manifestations of the causative polyomavirus (TSPyV) occur during primary infection of the immunosuppressed host. High TSPyV loads in blood and cerebrospinal fluid, sometimes coinciding with cerebral lesions and neuroendocrine symptoms, marked the acute phase of trichodysplasia spinulosa, whereas initiation and maturation of TSPyV seroresponses occurred in the convalescent phase. TSPyV genomes lacked the rearrangements typical for reactivating polyomaviruses. These findings demonstrate the clinical importance of primary infection with this rapidly expanding group of human viruses and explain the rarity of some novel polyomavirus-associated diseases.Peer reviewe
