    D-brane Construction of the 5D NHEK Dual

    Extremal but non-supersymmetric charged black holes with SU(2)_L spin in IIB string theory compactified to five dimensions on K^3 x S^1 are considered. These have a near-horizon or NHEK region with an enhanced SL(2,R)_L conformal symmetry. It is shown that the NHEK geometry has a second, inequivalent, asymptotically flat extension in which the radius of the S^1 becomes infinite but the radius of the angular circles of SU(2)_L orbits approach a constant. The asymptotic charges associated to the second solution identify it as a 5D D1-D5-Taub-NUT black string with certain nonzero worldvolume charge densities, temperatures and chemical potentials. The dual of the NHEK geometry is then identified as an IR limit of this wrapped brane configuration.Comment: 11 page

    Absorption cross section in warped AdS_3 black hole revisited

    We investigate the absorption cross section for minimal-coupled scalars in the warped AdS_3 black hole. According to our calculation, the cross section reduces to the horizon area in the low energy limit as usually expected in contrast to what was previously found. We also calculate the greybody factor and find that the effective temperatures for the two chiral CFT's are consistent with that derived from the quasinormal modes. Observing the conjectured warped AdS/CFT correspondence, we suspect that a specific sector of the CFT operators with the desired conformal dimension could be responsible for the peculiar thermal behaviour of the warped AdS_3 black hole.Comment: 16+1 pages, typos corrected, references and footnotes adde

    Quasi-normal modes of warped black holes and warped AdS/CFT correspondence

    We analytically calculate the quasi-normal modes of various perturbations of spacelike stretched and null warped AdS3AdS_3 black holes. From AdS/CFT correspondence, these quasi-normal modes are expected to appear as the poles in momentum space of retarded Green functions of dual operators in CFT at finite temperature. We find that this is indeed the case, after taking into account of the subtle identification of quantum numbers. The subtlety comes from the fact that only after appropriate coordinate transformation the asymptotic geometries of warped black holes are the same as the ones of warped AdS3AdS_3 spacetimes. We show that in general the quasi-normal modes are in good agreement with the prediction of the warped AdS/CFT correspondence, up to a constant factor. As a byproduct, we compute the conformal dimensions of boundary operators dual to the perturbations.     Casimir Energy of the Universe and the Dark Energy Problem

    We regard the Casimir energy of the universe as the main contribution to the cosmological constant. Using 5 dimensional models of the universe, the flat model and the warped one, we calculate Casimir energy. Introducing the new regularization, called {\it sphere lattice regularization}, we solve the divergence problem. The regularization utilizes the closed-string configuration. We consider 4 different approaches: 1) restriction of the integral region (Randall-Schwartz), 2) method of 1) using the minimal area surfaces, 3) introducing the weight function, 4) {\it generalized path-integral}. We claim the 5 dimensional field theories are quantized properly and all divergences are renormalized. At present, it is explicitly demonstrated in the numerical way, not in the analytical way. The renormalization-group function (\be-function) is explicitly obtained.     Conformal mechanics inspired by extremal black holes in d=4

    A canonical transformation which relates the model of a massive relativistic particle moving near the horizon of an extremal black hole in four dimensions and the conventional conformal mechanics is constructed in two different ways. The first approach makes use of the action-angle variables in the angular sector.     Connecting the Holographic and Wilsonian Renormalization Groups

    Inspired by the AdS/CFT correspondence, we develop an explicit formal duality between the planar limit of a d-dimensional gauge theory and a classical field theory in a (d+1)-dimensional anti-de Sitter space. The key ingredient is the identification of fields in AdS with generalized Hubbard-Stratonovich transforms of single-trace couplings of the QFT. We show that the Wilsonian renormalization group flow of these transformed couplings matches the holographic (Hamilton-Jacobi) flow of bulk fields along the radial direction in AdS.     Sleep Health Issues for Children with FASD: Clinical Considerations

    This article describes the combined clinical experience of a multidisciplinary group of professionals on the sleep disturbances of children with fetal alcohol spectrum disorders (FASD) focusing on sleep hygiene interventions. Such practical and comprehensive information is not available in the literature. Severe, persistent sleep difficulties are frequently associated with this condition but few health professionals are familiar with both FASD and sleep disorders. The sleep promotion techniques used for typical children are less suitable for children with FASD who need individually designed interventions. The types, causes, and adverse effects of sleep disorders, the modification of environment, scheduling and preparation for sleep, and sleep health for their caregivers are discussed. It is our hope that parents and also researchers, who are interested in the sleep disorders of children with FASD, will benefit from this presentation and that this discussion will stimulate much needed evidence-based research

    Hidden and Generalized Conformal Symmetry of Kerr-Sen Spacetimes

    It is recently conjectured that generic non-extremal Kerr black hole could be holographically dual to a hidden conformal field theory in two dimensions. Moreover, it is known that there are two CFT duals (pictures) to describe the charged rotating black holes which correspond to angular momentum JJ and electric charge QQ of the black hole. Furthermore these two pictures can be incorporated by the CFT duals (general picture) that are generated by SL(2,Z)SL(2,\mathbb{Z}) modular group. The general conformal structure can be revealed by looking at charged scalar wave equation in some appropriate values of frequency and charge. In this regard, we consider the wave equation of a charged massless scalar field in background of Kerr-Sen black hole and show in the "near region", the wave equation can be reproduced by the Casimir operator of a local SL(2,R)L×SL(2,R)RSL(2,\mathbb{R})_L \times SL(2,\mathbb{R})_R hidden conformal symmetry. We can find the exact agreement between macroscopic and microscopic physical quantities like entropy and absorption cross section of scalars for Kerr-Sen black hole. We then find an extension of vector fields that in turn yields an extended local family of SL(2,R)L×SL(2,R)RSL(2,\mathbb{R})_L \times SL(2,\mathbb{R})_R hidden conformal symmetries, parameterized by one parameter. For some special values of the parameter, we find a copy of SL(2,R)SL(2,\mathbb{R}) hidden conformal algebra for the charged Gibbons-Maeda-Garfinkle-Horowitz-Strominger black hole in the strong deflection limit.Comment: 16 pages, new material and results added, extensive improvements in interpretation of results, references adde

    Yet Another Realization of Kerr/CFT Correspondence

    The correspondence between the Kerr black hole and a boundary CFT has been conjectured recently. The conjecture has been proposed first only for the half of the CFT, namely for left movers. For right movers, the correspondence has been also found out through the suitable asymptotic boundary condition. However, the boundary conditions for these two studies are exclusive to each other. The boundary condition for left movers does not allow the symmetry of right movers, and vice versa.
