    On the initial condition for evolution of the perturbative QCD Pomeron in the nucleus

    It is shown that subdominant terms found in the reggeized gluon diagram technique, to be added to Pomeron fan diagrams with the 3P interaction, can be exactly taken into account by taking the initial condition for evolution in the Glauber form. This demonstrates complete equivalence of the dipole picture and the reggeized gluon approach not only on the leading level but also on the subleading level.Comment: 5 pages in LaTe

    Inclusive cross-section for gluon production is calculated by the dispersion technique in the NLO in the perturbative QCD with a large number of colours.     Pomeron fan diagrams in perturbative QCD

    Within QCD reggeon field theory we study the formation of two subsequent triple pomeron vertices in the process P→\toPP→\toPPP. We make use of an earlier investigation ~\cite{Bartels:1999aw} of the six-reggeon amplitude in deep inelastic scattering and show that in the large-NcN_c limit pomeron fan diagrams emerge with the same triple pomeron vertex in all places. We thus confirm the BK-equation, but we also find additional terms related to the reggeization of the gluon, and we discuss their potential significance. Our analysis also includes the general pomeron →\to two odderon vertex: a particular version of this vertex has been included into earlier generalizations the BK equation.Comment: 22 pages, 10 figure

    Fusion of strings vs. percolation and the transition to the quark-gluon plasma

    In most of the models of hadronic collisions the number of exchanged colour strings grows with energy and atomic numbers of the projectile and target. At high string densities interaction between them should melt them into the quark-gluon plasma state. It is shown that under certain assumptions about the the string interaction, a phase transition to the quark gluon plasma indeed takes place in the system of many colour strings. It may be of the first or second order (percolation), depending on the particular mechanism of the interaction. The critical string density is about unity in both cases. The critical density may have been already reached in central Pb-Pb collisions at 158 A GeV.Comment: 16 pages, 3 Postscript figure

    Dependence of boundary lubrication on the misfit angle between the sliding surfaces

    Using molecular dynamics based on Langevin equations with a coordinate- and velocity-dependent damping coefficient, we study the frictional properties of a thin layer of "soft" lubricant (where the interaction within the lubricant is weaker than the lubricant-substrate interaction) confined between two solids. At low driving velocities the system demonstrates stick-slip motion. The lubricant may or may not be melted during sliding, thus exhibiting either the "liquid sliding" (LS) or the "layer over layer sliding" (LoLS) regimes. The LoLS regime mainly operates at low sliding velocities. We investigate the dependence of friction properties on the misfit angle between the sliding surfaces and calculate the distribution of static frictional thresholds for a contact of polycrystalline surfaces.Comment: 8 pages, 11 figure

    Production of a gluon with the exchange of three reggeized gluons in the Lipatov effective action approach

    In the Regge kinematics the amplitude for gluon production off three scattering centers is found in the Lipatov effective action technique. The vertex for gluon emission with the reggeon splitting in three reggeons is calculated and its transversality is demonstrated. It is shown that in the sum of all contributions terms containing principal value singularities are cancelled and substituted by the standard Feynman poles. These results may be used for calculation of the inclusive cross-section for gluon production on two nucleons in the nucleus.Comment: 22 pages, 9 figures; submitted to Eur.Phys.Jour.

    Production probabilities for strange clusters and strange matter in Au+Au collisions at AGS energy are obtained in the thermal fireball model. The only parameters of the model, the baryon chemical potential and temperature, were determined from a description of the rather complete set of hadron yields from Si+nucleus collisions at the AGS. For the production of light nuclear fragments and strange clusters the results are similar to recent coalescence model calculations.     Instability in hydraulic machines demonstration rig

    In fluid flow machines, the working fluid involved in rotative motion due to shaft rotation significantly modifies the rotor synchronous response. This can result in the rotor maintaining the high vibration amplitude that occurs at resonance over an extended rotative speed range. The phase changes in this range are typically very small. The fluid may also create rotor instability, i.e., subsynchronous self-excited vibrations, when the rotative speed is sufficiently high. This rotor instability is often related and increases with higher rotor unbalance (Opposite to other types of instability such as oil whirl/whip, internal friction, etc.). The rotor rig demonstrates typical dynamic behavior of hydraulic machines. At lower speeds the effect of amplitude/phase mentioned above is noticeable; at higher speeds the subsynchronous instability occurs

The base manifold is the Z_5 x Z_5-quotient of the quintic, and the vector bundle is the quotient of a positive monad. The group action on the monad and its bundle-valued cohomology is discussed in detail, including topological restrictions on the existence of equivariant structures.
