The type specimens of fungus growing ants, Attini (Hymenoptera, Formicidae, Myrmicinae) deposited in the Museu de Zoologia da Universidade de São Paulo, Brazil

We present here a list of the Attini type material deposited in the Formicidae collection of the Museu de Zoologia da Universidade de São Paulo (MZSP), Brazil. In total, the Attini (fungus-growing and leaf-cutting ants) collection includes types of 105 nominal species, of which 74 are still valid, whereas 31 are considered synonyms. The majority of the types in the MZSP collection are syntypes (74), but in the collection there are 4 species represented only by holotypes, 12 by holotypes and paratypes, 13 species only by paratypes, and 2 species by the lectotype and one paralectotype as well. All holotypes and paratypes refer to valid species. The aim of this type list is to facilitate consultation and to encourage further revisionary studies of the Attini genera.Apresentamos uma lista dos tipos de formigas criadoras de fungo e cortadeiras (Attini) pertencentes à coleção do Museu de Zoologia da Universidade de São Paulo. A coleção inclui tipos de 105 espécies nominais, das quais 74 são válidas. A maioria dos tipos pertence à categoria de síntipos (74), mas a coleção inclui 4 espécies representadas apenas pelos holótipos, 12 espécies representadas por holótipos e parátipos, 13 espécies representadas apenas por parátipos e duas espécies pelos lectótipos e paralectótipos. Todos os holótipos e parátipos são de espécies válidas. O objetivo dessa publicação é facilitar a consulta e encorajar futuros trabalhos de revisão dos gêneros de Attini

A catalogue of Cephalotini ant types (Hymenoptera: Formicidae: Myrmicinae) deposited in the Museu de Zoologia da Universidade de São Paulo, Brazil

O acervo de Formicidae do Laboratório de Hymenoptera do Museu de Zoologia da Universidade de São Paulo (MZSP) abriga uma das coleções mais representativas de formigas Neotropicais, devido à ampla distribuição geográfica dos espécimes nela depositados e também pela grande quantidade de tipos e táxons que abriga. No presente catálogo, seguindo as recomendações gerais do Código Internacional de Nomenclatura Zoológica, apresentamos uma lista dos tipos da tribo Cephalotini depositados na coleção do MZSP, reproduzindo também informações contidas nos rótulos e nas publicações originais, o estado de conservação dos espécimes, o status taxonômico bem como sua atual classificação, quando diferente da original, além de um índice para os táxons catalogados. No total o catálogo lista 43 espécies nominais, das quais 23 são ainda válidas dos dois gêneros reconhecidos, Cephalotes e Procryptocerus (representadas por quatro holótipos, 17 holótipos com parátipos, 15 parátipos, cinco síntipos, um lectótipo e um neótipo).The Hymenoptera laboratory of the Museu de Zoologia da Universidade de São Paulo (MZSP) houses one of the most representative collections of Neotropical ants worldwide. This is due to the wide geographical distribution of its specimens, and also because of the comparatively large number of types and taxa represented. The catalogue, following the general recommendations of the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature, lists types of the tribe Cephalotini deposited in the collection of MZSP; also providing information regarding labels, original publications, state of conservation of specimens, taxonomic status of listed species, and their current classification when different from the original. An index for the listed taxa is also provided. In total, the catalogue lists types of 43 nominal species, of which 23 are still valid, from the two recognized genera Cephalotes and Procryptocerus (four represented by holotypes, 17 by holotypes and paratypes, 15 by paratypes, five by syntypes, one by a lectotype and one by a neotype)

Genera of Belytinae (Hymenoptera: Diapriidae) recorded in the Atlantic Dense Ombrophilous Forest from Paraíba to Santa Catarina, Brazil

The parasitoid wasps Belytinae (Hymenoptera: Diaprioidea: Diapriidae) recorded thus far in the Atlantic Dense Ombrophilous Forest are reviewed at the supra specific level. The knowledge about the diversity of Belytinae in the Atlantic Forest is relatively poor, although these parasitoids may play a key role in the natural regulation of populations of the Mycetophilidae and Sciaridae (Diptera). The material used in this study comes mostly from standardized collections in 18 regularly spaced sites, from Paraíba to Santa Catarina Brazilian states, between 2000 and 2002, by the project “Richness and diversity of Hymenoptera and Isoptera along a latitudinal gradient in the Atlantic Forest – the eastern Brazilian rain forest” (Biota/SP – FAPESP). At each location ten Malaise traps and a hundred Moericke traps were installed, both along two parallel transects spaced 100 m from each other. Further, a similar effort for the sweeping of vegetation was applied at each locality, being each sweeping sample the result of 5 minutes of sweeping. Traps, and sweeping of vegetation in the summed localities yielded a total of 1,241 Belytinae specimens, of which we recognize 115 morphospecies in eight genera (Aclista, Belyta, Cinetus, Odontopsilus, Scorpioteleia, Lyteba, Tropidopsilus and Camptopsilus). A further belytine genus (Miota), recorded in similar environment, was found at the collection of the Federal University of Espírito Santo and added to the list, totalling nine here keyed genera; for each genus we include a diagnosis, comments and a discussion on its records, distribution and biology; we also provide twenty-two plates with 102 figures (93 photographs and 9 maps)

We record all labels contents and also additional information from MZSP registers, published material, and other available sources. High resolution photographs of holotypes, lectotypes and syntypes are available through links to Specimage - the image database of The Ohio State University, where they are archived. Type specimens of the traditional Myrmicinae (Hymenoptera: Formicidae) ant tribes deposited in the Museu de Zoologia da Universidade de São Paulo, Brazil: Adelomyrmecini, Basicerotini, Blepharidatt ini, Crematogastrini, Formicoxenini, Lenomyrmecini, Myrmicini, Phalacromyrmecini, Pheidolini, Stegomyrmecini, Stenammini and Tetramoriini

The present catalogue lists ant types of 12 traditional Myrmicinae ant tribes (Adelomyrmecini, Basicerotini, Blepharidattini, Crematogastrini, Formicoxenini, Lenomyrmecini, Myrmicini, Phalacromyrmecini, Pheidolini, Stegomyrmecini, Stenammini and Tetramoriini) housed in the Formicidae Collection of the Hymenoptera Laboratory, Museu de Zoologia da Universidade de São Paulo (MZSP), Brazil, completing the publication of Myrmicinae types deposited in this institution. We adopted the traditional classification for Myrmicinae tribes to follow the already published catalogues regarding the Attini, Cephalotini, Dacetini and Solenopsidini and published catalogues in this series. In total, the present catalogue includes types of 213 nominal species, of which 169 are still valid. Twelve species listed here are represented by holotypes only, 28 by holotypes and paratypes, 102 species by paratypes only, 65 species by syntypes, and five species by lectotypes and paralectotypes. We record the label information, morphological condition of the specimens, nomenclatural changes, and type status, following the recommendations of the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature (ICZN).O presente catálogo lista os espécimes tipo de 12 tribos tradicionais de formigas mirmícineas (Adelomyrmecini, Basicerotini, Blepharidattini, Crematogastrini, Formicoxenini, Lenomyrmecini, Myrmicini, Phalacromyrmecini, Pheidolini, Stegomyrmecini, Stenammini and Tetramoriini) depositados na coleção de Formicidae do Laboratório de Hymenoptera do Museu de Zoologia da Universidade de São Paulo (MZSP), Brasil, completando a série de catálogos de tipos de Myrmicinae aqui depositados. Adotamos aqui a classificação tradicional para as tribos de Myrmicinae por já termos publicado os catálogos de Attini, Cephalotini, Dacetini e Solenopsidini. No total, a coleção inclui tipos das tribos de Myrmicinae agora catalogadas representando 213 espécies nominais, das quais 169 são válidas.
