Helicopter Pilot Performance for Discrete-maneuver Flight Tasks

This paper describes a current study of several basic helicopter flight maneuvers. The data base consists of in-flight measurements from instrumented helicopters using experienced pilots. The analysis technique is simple enough to apply without automatic data processing, and the results can be used to build quantitative matah models of the flight task and some aspects of the pilot control strategy. In addition to describing the performance measurement technqiue, some results are presented which define the aggressiveness and amplitude of maneuvering for several lateral maneuvers including turns and sidesteps

“Brick & Mortar” Education and “Real World” Experience: Assessing HRM Alumni Perceptions of their Early Professional Development

In this research we examined the extent to which three distinct human resource management (HRM) undergraduate programs provide coverage of the 13 core content areas specified by the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) and explored the usefulness of various ways of learning including their undergraduate coursework, an internship, and previous work experience as related to early professional development. Based on perceptions of HRM alumni, the findings reveal that the three curricula provided significant differences in levels of proficiency in seven of the core areas and in perceived usefulness of the learning methods. Implications for HRM curriculum development and students’ professional development are discussed

Federal Common Law and the Erie-Byrd Rule

From their first year in law school through their careers, attorneys have been mystified by the twists and turns of the Erie doctrine and the seemingly incompatible unfolding of what Judge Friendly labeled the new federal common law. The author attempts afresh reconciliation through a review of both bodies of law. He concludes that in areas not directly covered by either the Constitution or federal statutes, federal courts are authorized to resolve convicts between federal and state rules through application of a federal procedural common law in much the same way that they have worked to resolve conflicts with state policy in areas offederal substantive concern

The method in which traditional American scholarly mindsets have approached the Islamic religion in education is explored and compared to relatively recent conceptions of Muslims within American schools in order to shed light on an interesting modern topic with immense historical background. Finally, a professional development presentation, designed to show societal impact of nationalistic bias of textbook information on generational attitudes. The responsibilities to teachers to go beyond the textbook on debatable subject content in order to give students the tools they need to make educational approaches to topics is stressed

Traditionalist\u27s Approach to Teaching O\u27Brien and to Ideology in the Classroom, A

The goal of our program on Ideology in the Classroom initially was to explore the proper role of ideology in the classroom with the help of representatives of critical race theory, law and economics, feminist legal thought, and critical legal studies. From the perspective of the original planners of the program, the discussion of a case like O\u27Brien v. Cunard Steamship Co., were viewed simply as a means to that end. During the implementation of the program, a second set of goals began to emerge: each of the representatives saw participation in the program as a opportunity to showcase his or her school so as to demonstrate the clarity of its vision to the uninitiated and perhaps to win over a few academic converts. I prefer a different definition of traditionalist, one which allows me to represent myself where I am right now

The Impact of Passing the Professional in Human Resources Exam on Early Career Success for Undergraduates Entering the Human Resource Field

This study investigates the impact of passing the Professional in Human Resources (PHR) certification exam on the early career success of recent college graduates. Data were gathered from alumni of three Midwestern universities who earned an undergraduate degree in business administration (i.e., BBA) with a major in human resources. The survey was designed to measure early career success indicators including finding a job in the HR field, starting salary, and number of promotions. Results reveal that the probability of one’s first job after graduation being in human resources was significantly greater for those who had passed the PHR exam compared with those who did not pass or did not take the exam. Passing the PHR exam was not associated with significant differences in starting salary or early career promotions. Implications, study strengths and limitations, and suggestions for future research are discussed
